Steelers interested in Foote, too

The Steelers are trying to get the old gang back together.

Just one year after a frosty departure, the team is interested in bringing back linebacker Larry Foote for veteran depth.  They have competition though: Foote has met with Washington and plans to meet with the Cardinals next.

Knowing the history between Ken Whisenhunt and Pittsburgh, we would now be surprised if the Cardinals let Foote leave town without signing him.

Don’t count out the Deadskins. Little Danny always has a case of Foote-in-mouth disease.

Tomlin realized that he was better off with Cowher’s players, so now he wants to bring them back.

I don’t think Foote’s departure was all that icy. Larry knew he was going to be a backup and asked to be released, so he was. That was that.

i thought Foote wanted to leave Pittsburg, because he said he wanted to play for his home town Detroit

Come on home, Larry. Do you really want to play in AZ? Nah.

LMFAO, knowing Whisenhunt’s history with the Steelers, Foote’s agent is behind this, knowing it will get Foote a better deal, when Ken over spends to keep him from Pitt….

  7. Laxer37 says: Mar 9, 2010 12:25 PM

He was let go because he was no longer one of the two best ILB’s on the team and he refused to stay as backup.
After a year in Detroit he may have had a change of heart and a backup roll on the team that put two championship rings on his fingers may look like a pretty good option.

I fully support bringing back Larry. He was a solid player and knows the system, and I believe he was well-liked. Hopefully we can pull it off.
And, I would also like to see us keep FWP. We could use both Rashard and Willie this year. They each bring something different to the table.
    GO STEELERS!

Last big play Foote made was getting arrested about 3 years ago for beating up college kids at a pizza joint in the middle of the night back in Ann Arbor during offseason.

LMAO …. Ken Whisenhunt realized he was better off with Cowher’s players, so now he wants to bring them to the Cardinals. Who’s next Porter???

  11. Milhouse says: Mar 9, 2010 12:31 PM

    Any update on Leigh Bodden?

  12. Maddog says: Mar 9, 2010 12:33 PM

If Foote signs, that could be bad news for Farrior. Timmons is better suited for that spot.

ravenmuscle that was the best post of the week, right there…………

  17. DoctorK says: Mar 9, 2010 12:56 PM

Before I’d opt for Foote, I’d be looking to grab Bodden, Lilja and Incognito. Then you can say that the draft has less importance for this coming year.

  18. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 9, 2010 1:00 PM

Man, the Steelers sure are active in free agency. I thought that only the Cowboys and Redskins try to buy championships.

  19. Katmanduu says: Mar 9, 2010 1:19 PM

Foote would be a nice addition, but do you really think he would come back, knowing it would be as a back-up, when he could EASILY start for two inferior teams in Washington and AZ??

  20. C.Bass says: Mar 9, 2010 1:19 PM

Vox, notice the Steelers aren’t going for the overpaid FAs? They are getting the second-tier types to fill holes and provide depth. Just as they did in the past with players like Hartwig, Hartings, Staley, Davenport, Clark, etc.

  21. DoctorK says: Mar 9, 2010 1:21 PM

That’s great logic, Vox. For years, they win it with homegrown talent and can’t earn the respect of little people like you. Now, they wade into free agency–not for the big fish, mind you—and still have to deal with the baloney.
I’ll remind you of why yours is a loser’s mentality this coming January.

  22. Tony Snow says: Mar 9, 2010 1:46 PM

When it comes to the Steelers, you have to throw “back-up” …out the window. Their goal is superbowl every year and depth is very important. Even though Timmons is the “starter”, …he’s been hurt every year. Foote would surely see time as a starter….and maybe even get another ring. IMO

  23. Thingamajig says: Mar 9, 2010 1:46 PM

Larry knows he has a better shot at making the playoffs with the Cards rather than the Steelers or Redskins.

  24. Sixburgh4Life says: Mar 9, 2010 1:55 PM

    @ vox
Can you really question the thought process of an organization that’s like the Yankees of Baseball? Didn’t think so! All we’re doing is getting our special teams together. And now, with Ryan Clark back in the mix and the draft coming I’m feeling pretty good about next year. If Big Ben can keep his hands off the t**ties, we should be a lock for #7.

  25. QBall says: Mar 9, 2010 1:57 PM

Foote won’t be returning as a back-up. It’s Farrior who’s going to be riding the pine when (not if) Foote signs with the Steelers again. I also think Foote planned this all along. He certainly knew Farrior was getting long in the tooth, which is why he only signed a one-year deal with the Lions. He got to start in Detroit, which is what he wanted, and he’ll do the same when he comes back to the Steelers.

  26. AZ Red Bird says: Mar 9, 2010 2:19 PM

Foote will be signing in AZ. We need an ILB after the loss of Dansby. Foote knows the system we run inside and out. He also knows Ken Whis practice schedule won’t beat him to death…expect him to sign in AZ.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Porter signed as well.

  27. Ravenmuscle says: Mar 9, 2010 2:29 PM

I think the Red Birds should go after Conrad Dobler. I think he’s still available

  28. Laxer37 says: Mar 9, 2010 2:49 PM

    Vox:
It’s completely OK that you don’t understand what the Steelers are doing. If it was easy every team would have six Lombardi’s and seven AFC Championship in their trophy case.

  29. i'm president charlie! says: Mar 9, 2010 5:10 PM

The Cowboys should go after Derek Anderson to solve their quarterback issue LOL

I’m reminding you why you can kiss my ass every day. Because you’re stupid.

  31. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 9, 2010 5:16 PM

“It’s completely OK that you don’t understand what the Steelers are doing. If it was easy”
Cheating’s not hard. Getting away with it is. Ask Dan Rooney about that.

  32. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 9, 2010 5:17 PM

“Can you really question the thought process of an organization that’s like the Yankees of Baseball?”
Wait, just a few days ago the Cowboys were the Yankees.

  33. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 9, 2010 5:18 PM

“Vox, notice the Steelers aren’t going for the overpaid FAs?”
I notice that the Cowboys very rarely spend for high-priced free agents, too.

  34. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 9, 2010 5:25 PM

“For years, they win it with homegrown talent”
Homegrown talent like Bettis, Farrior, Kirschke, Moore, Hartings, Staley et al?
