A year ago, the career of Titans quarterback Vince Young was going nowhere, and it widely was presumed that he’d have to restructure his contract in order to remain with the team in 2010.
Now, he’s back on top — and as a result he’ll be pocketing a $4.25 million roster bonus on Wednesday.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that Young’s agent, Major Adams, said Tuesday that Young’s rookie contract has not changed. As a result, the $4.25 million roster bonus will be coupled with a 2010 base salary of $7.5 million.
In 2011, the final year of his deal, Young’s base salary increases to $8.5 million.
Young was benched in the 2008 season, but he regained his starting job in 2009 after the team slumped to an 0-6 start.
wow 11 million for young. Get ready for a let down
I am a Vince Young fan; but unfortunately he hasn’t proven to be worth the kind of money that he will be paid this year!
dude Vince Young showed the control, the accuracy, and the maturity so many critics thought he lacked, if he continues this type of poise throughout his career he will be a great QB
Vince Young will never be more then an average Qb. But if Titans do not pay him then what do they do? Qb market is slim pickings.
When he took over at mid season the Titans turned it around and Young looked like the QB they had hoped he would be. Sure, he’s getting a ton of money but not at all out of line for an impact player at the QB position. If he continues to perform like he did when he got his chance last year the Titans will glad to write his pay checks.
The guy seem to work out of his funk and now looks like he could be a big part of what the Titans need to move forward. I’m not a Titan or Young fan but I do give the young man credit for sticking with it.
“A year ago, the career of Titans quarterback Vince Young was going nowhere…”
Just a few things the experts at PFT wrote about Mr. Young:
March 10, 2009 “The Tennessee Titans’ collection of once-failed first-round quarterbacks could expand by one.”
March 6, 2009 “Leinart and Young are dangerously close to becoming busts”
August 10, 2009 10:14 PM ET
“…quarterback Vince Young’s career seems to be rapidly disintegrating.”
Nice to see that PFT is as clueless as everyone else about the progress of an athlete’s career.
