Apparently unsatisfied with current trade offers for quarterback Mike Vick, the Eagles officially will be paying the $1.5 million roster bonus due upon completion of the fifth day of the league year.
Indeed, 4:00 p.m. ET has come and gone, and Vick has been neither traded nor cut.
Meanwhile, Vick spent part of the fifth day of the league year on radio in St. Louis, talking about his interest in playing for the Rams, and thus not playing for the team who holds his contractual rights.
“I’m not saying it out of arrogance but out of confidence,” Vick told ESPN Radio’s local affiliate, via Mike Sando of ESPN.com. “I think I can be the difference maker on any team,
especially a team like the St. Louis Rams, who need a lot of help and
will get it based on their ownership and the General Manager they have
who is a great guy and I know from Atlanta. I just think bringing the
right pieces in, putting the right players in the proper positions and
giving them the opportunity to win, I think premier players could turn
any team around. Yeah I’m confident I could do that. . . .
“Me and Billy have a relationship that dates back to 2001-2002 and
we were very close in Atlanta,” Vick said. “We always talked, he always
came and sat by me by my locker and he’d ask me what my thoughts were
on certain things and we just always had open dialogue. I think the
world of him, he’s a great guy and he’s been there for me throughout
the last three years just communicating.”
That’s fine, but Vick won’t be playing in St. Louis unless and until the Rams make the Eagles an offer that the Eagles will accept. And Vick’s decision to keep talking about wanting to play with another team will only make it harder for the Eagles to get what they want — in turn making it harder for Vick to get what he wants.
Meanwhile, Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange recently pointed out that the payment of the roster bonus converts $1 million of Vick’s 2010 base salary of $3.75 million into a guaranteed payment. Vick also has $2.75 million in incentives that would become easily reachable if he’s the starting quarterback.
So any team that acquires Vick would be looking at up to $6.5 million in financial obligations to Vick on the one year that remains on his contract.
The bigger challenge will be satisfying the Eagles via trade, and the more Vick says about leaving the more difficult it will be for the Eagles to get the kind of offer they’d accept.
Eagles will have to throw in a late pick with vick if they expect to get the Rams second-round pick. Try saying that three times fast.
Why is he mentioning STL???
Would it be a good fit???
Maybe…
But why would Philly pay his bonus if they weren’t going to keep him…???
Sounds like he’s staying put to me…
Vick is a few sandwiches short of a picnic. I say that without factoring in his whole pit bull fighting enterprise. Regardless of your views on the dog fighting and his quick re-insertion into the NFL landscape the guy has proven himself to be some kind of ignorant over the last few months. For example, drinking vodka in public, choosing not to be thankful/humble and instead whining about playing time, and finally f’ing over any possibility of getting anything of worth in a trade from him by letting his ego manipulate his logic. You’d think he wouldn’t let that happen, twice……
hahaha… i tried it… messed up twice… i like the idea though, their second round pick would be awesome…
No way do the Eagles get the 33rd pick in the draft for Vick regardless of whether it comes with a late round pick or not. Vick and the Eagles 5th Rounder for the Rams 3rd rounder maybe.
I say trade vick and our second round pick to the rams for steven jackson and a 4th or 5th. That’s would be so frickin cool!
No way, Vick will be a Raider very soon.
I think it’s screwed that Phily doesn’t care about the player Michael Vick and is only signing him because the trade offers were too low. Seems very selfish. it’s not like they drafted him or even had to traded for him. I hope that they get stuck holding the bag with 3 QB’s this year.
We arent going to get steven jackson. If the Eagles really wanted him, they would have drafted him instead of andrews. I would even take the Rams 3rd round pick. Eagles would have plenty of ammo in the draft then.
The idiot keeps digging his own hole, and talk about arrogant, calling himself “a premier player”.
He doesn’t get it and he never did.
The guy is hopeless.
I want OJ Atogwe. If he’s involved in a Vick deal, I’m good.
How does Vick consider himself a premiere player? Off last year’s performance, or what he did as the Falcons QB all those years ago? There is not one shred of evidence to suggest that Vick is even a shadow of his former self. And he really wasn’t all that even in his prime. The worst thing a person can be is self deluded. Embarrassing.
You would think that if Tony Dungy were such a great mentor he would pick up the phone and tell Vick to shut his damn mouth because everytime it opens he sounds like more and more of an idiot.
The Rams already have the Eagle’s 5th rounder. I don’t think the Rams would give up more than a 4th round pick if they were looking to trade for Vick.
Doesn’t this make Vick guilty of tampering…against hisownself!?!?!?
Has Mike Vick ever done any thing to despel that he is not ignorant
RON MEXICO WOOF WOOF!!
Vick has got to be one the DUMBEST SOB’s in the world. Why would he think that STL would be a good fit? Why would Spagnola go anywhere near him with a ten foot pole? I don’t even think he should be playing in the UFL. Regardless of his past indiscretions he has proven to simply not be that good and I think he has definitely ruined any chance he had of a good trade for the eagles. He should have a gag order in his contract whoever signs this idiot.
I dont think it’s possible for the Eagles to get any teams’ second rounder for this jerkoff. Maybe a third but only if the Birds throw in a late round pick.
Vick for Atogwe.
If Vick comes to the Rams then they most likely draft Suh. If not then they probably get Sam Bradford.

Thats even dumber than what P-way eagles said. I’m pretty sure the Rams aren’t going to trade their best player for a washed-up QB and a late 2nd round pick.
“But why would Philly pay his bonus if they weren’t going to keep him…???”
They’re thinking that they can get a draft pick that makes it worth it. Probably holding out for three firsts or something.
@BleedGreen..Arent you a steelers fan now? lol
I’m not sure who’s more delusional here, Vick or the Eagles.
This is going to turn into a grease fire soon.
Rumor Mongering – Don’t care about what you had to say about Vick’s past personal life, I’m pretty sure no one else does either.
But if the Rams are smart, they’ll upgrade their team and get Vick. I sure hope not, I’d love to see a “Start VICK” epidemic in Philly this year, it’s almost guaranteed.
So the Iggles reward for signing this bozo is this?
@sterlizeThenry…The eagles got a 2nd rounder for A J feeley…Whats so dumb about getting a decent pick for Vick? We are talking about the rams too, how many games have they won in the past 3 years?
Jesus christ, Andy, just trade this guy already. Take a fourth rounder for him if you have to. Just get rid of him!
I’m so sick of hearing about Michael Vick.
Que the “Mr. Montgomery Burns” impression and say it with me……”Exxxxxxxceelleent, Smithers.”
Watch & see, the Eagles will get a good deal. Hell, they got a 4th for Lito & and 2nd for Feeley…..marinate on that for a moment…
reggie brown just went for a 6th rounder. although vick is a quarterback he is probably a much better receiver than brown ever was. add his legs and his arm and its at least a 3rd
1.5 million = good money after bad.
Look Vick is a trusted advisor!
“Me and Billy have a relationship that dates back to 2001-2002 and we were very close in Atlanta,” Vick said. “We always talked, he always came and sat by me by my locker and he’d ask me what my thoughts were on certain things and we just always had open dialogue.”
Isn’t it odd that we pretty much got Vick in order to flip him for a pick, and yet the coaching staff didn’t do much to showcase him?
While that’s admirable – Vick’s entry into games seemed to be a speed bump that threw everyone off rhythm – it was no way to get a pick higher than round 3 at best.
So what’s the plan? They just doubled down by paying the bonus, so now they almost have to get a 2nd to justify the signing.
I would love to know who’s idea this was, and how they sold it into Lurie as to how it would play out / what the reward will be.
At the end of the day, I say we get a 3rd rounder in 2011 – conditional so that it could become a 2nd if big benchmarks are met.
As for Simpson’s references, I see Reid holding a model of the Spruce Goose, pointing a gun at Vick, and telling him “get IN!”.
Well sure has been a great investment just so Andy Reid’s kids are raped softer, ain’t it?
just a quick little thing here…any one hear anything about Sheldon Brown getting moved to free safety? If there’s a defensive back on our team that resembles anything that was Dawkins, I think it could be Brown.
On the Vick note, now this is just my gut feeling. I see Donovan getting moved on draft day. Where to and what for I have no idea, and don’t really care. I’d love to see him win it for Philly, in fact there’s no one I’d like to see do it more. I think all Eagles fans, and football fans know for that matter, he can’t do it in 2010. I see Kolb starting in the fall, but considering the college he came from, and the only other 2 NFL quarterbacks to start out of Houston ended up tying for number 10 on NFL’s top 10 draft busts of all time. I think Vick will get his chance to start at some point in 2010, and it will be for the Eagles. I’m excited to see if my theory pans out, although whatever fans think is rarely ever what happens hahahaha
on another note, Kolb played three bowls game in college. The hawaii bowl, the liberty bowl, and the fort worth bowl. he was killed in the fort worth bowl, and lost by a score in the other two. sounds like a familiar philadelphia quarterback who just couldn’t win the big game.
Earned?
Vick is not worth a conditional 7th round pick. The Rams, and 30 other teams could have signed Vick off the street for nothing. Why are they not lined up around the block to sign this guy if they thought he might help them win?
Do you really think any NFL team cares about dog fighting, gambling, DWI convictions, vehicular manslaughter, conspiracy to commit murder, child molestation, rape or carrying of a concealed weapon accusations if they think a player can help them win?
Bueller…….Bueller……….
It is all about winning and it looks like 31 teams decided last year that Vick could not help them win and one team decided to roll the dice and they appear to have come up snake-eyes.
So that leaves him what, maybe $17 mil in debt. That might be a little gracious with his TV show salary.
Vick Bounty
This guy’s a cancer. A talented cancer, but a cancer nonetheless.
