Browns shopping Brady Quinn

Cleveland Browns front office boss Mike Holmgren has already made changes at the quarterback position, and he’s not done yet.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Browns have offered quarterback Brady Quinn in trade talks with other teams.

It’s been apparent for some time that it doesn’t look good for Quinn in Cleveland. The Browns have traded for Seneca Wallace, who thinks he’s going to start, and they’ve had discussions about signing, trading for or drafting another quarterback. All of which suggests that they don’t view Quinn as the long-term answer.

Holmgren has said he thinks Quinn needs a full year as an NFL starter before his long-term prospects can be adequately evaluated. But it’s looking less and less likely that Quinn will get that full year as a starter in Cleveland.

Quinn to Viking for T-Jax – straight up

  2. toe-to-toe bird law says: Mar 10, 2010 12:54 PM

If you told the Raiders 3 years ago that they could someday end up with both JaMarcus Russell AND Brady Quinn in 2010 for the 1st overall pick in the 2007 draft and most likely a 3rd round pick in the 2010 draft, they, well, they probably wouldn’t have been surpirsed at all.

  3. BleedGreen says: Mar 10, 2010 12:54 PM

Think something is imminent with them trading for a legit starting QB?

  4. bearsrule says: Mar 10, 2010 12:55 PM

If you’re being traded so Seneca Wallace can start over you….you are a bust.

  5. myasylum says: Mar 10, 2010 12:57 PM

Back up in Green Bay? hmm??

  6. js136202 says: Mar 10, 2010 12:58 PM

The second that we find a team offering a 7th round pick and a case of Myoplex we should seal the deal.
    - Brady Quinn, upon receiving news of his trade…
    “Now I’m done”

  7. ParkerFly says: Mar 10, 2010 1:00 PM

Cue all the wanna-be scouts who have never even broken down a game film that think Quinn is the next star.

  8. Carl says: Mar 10, 2010 1:00 PM

Come on Vikings, Whitehurst for a 3rd rounder? Quinn for probably the same? This is better than what you have behind Favre, and you can still draft a young QB….make some moves!!!

  9. Brownie says: Mar 10, 2010 1:00 PM

Yes!! Get rid of him. All the dumb Cleveland fans would just chant his name every time their new starter made one mistake. Do Cleveland fans really like the guy, just because he is a pretty boy? He can’t play football. That says a lot about how stupid the Quinn lovers are.

  10. Subpar says: Mar 10, 2010 1:02 PM

Where is the link to this report? Just logged into espn insider on my phone and then my computer and I dont see where it is being reported….

  11. Subpar says: Mar 10, 2010 1:03 PM

    nevermind…found it.

  12. C.Bass says: Mar 10, 2010 1:03 PM

Hey Browns fans, here’s a helpful suggestion: Don’t buy a Wallace jersey or whoever they draft for QB until he succeeds.
You’d think they would catch on, but the stand at Cleveland stadium is full of Couch, Frye, Anderson, and Quinn jerseys (Edwards and Winslow also).

  13. DoctorK says: Mar 10, 2010 1:04 PM

I heard the CFL is interested.

  14. NashvilleSeahawk says: Mar 10, 2010 1:04 PM

It would be great to have Quinn in Nashville since the Titans don’t have a real quarterback.
I don’t know what the question is, but Seneca Wallace will never be the answer.

  15. Turnercrp says: Mar 10, 2010 1:05 PM

Bring him to KC as a backup to Matt Cassel.
    Charlie Weis knows him well.

  16. Kevin from Philly says: Mar 10, 2010 1:06 PM

This is as dramatic as when Florio put the ’69 VW bus up for sale. For about the same asking price.

  17. FumbleNuts says: Mar 10, 2010 1:06 PM

    Send him to Seattle.

  18. BIG BLUE in tx says: Mar 10, 2010 1:08 PM

I’d love to see how Quinn would play given an opportunity on a real team.

  19. Larry David says: Mar 10, 2010 1:10 PM

I don’t think Brady Quinn is that great, but he does seem like the perfect QB for a west coast offense, short and intermediate passes are his strength, not throwing the ball down the field.

  20. DM1130 says: Mar 10, 2010 1:10 PM

Maybe Pete Carroll will want him in Seattle…..He got to see him play a few times at ND.

  21. Rich says: Mar 10, 2010 1:11 PM

I heard a rumor of Quinn and a 5th to Carolina for Richard Marshall yesterday.

  22. JayBot says: Mar 10, 2010 1:12 PM

Holmgren to Quinn: “The world needs ditch diggers, too.”

  23. mwcarolina says: Mar 10, 2010 1:13 PM

ideas, Quinn to Washington for Campbell or Quinn to Carolina for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

  24. j-wil says: Mar 10, 2010 1:13 PM

Maybe he can be a backup in Green Bay, I think AJ Hawk married his sister…………I remember hearing that somewhere

  25. Jagdbaer says: Mar 10, 2010 1:14 PM

So does this mean Tim Teabow’s background in a “spread” offense shouldn’t be held against him? Brady Quinn was coached by “genius” Charlie Weis and he still can’t hack it in the NFL.

  26. Duan says: Mar 10, 2010 1:16 PM

Okay, they want to dump the QB roster and start anew, o.k. – fine!
But I just got one wish, please do not draft any of these qb’s in this class with the #7!
Out of the QB’s in this years class- I like in this order,
    1. Jimmy Clausen
    2. Colt McCoy
    3. Tony Pike
    4. Tim Tebow
    5. Jonathan Crompton (My Favorite)
    6. Jarrett Brown
    7. Levi Brown
    8. John Skelton
    9. Daryll Clark
    10. Jevan Snead
These are the guys I like the top 4, I would consider for rounds 2-3
    Numbers 5 thru 10, I would consider in rounds 4 thru 7!
As you can tell Sam Bradford is not listed, my gut feeling does not care for a spread offense, shot gun, frail quarterback! Period!
Johnny Crompton is the sleeper of the bunch! Watch what I tell you! He has prototypical size, he played against the competition in the SEC and faired well, and he throws the ball on a rope!
That is the guy I want the Browns to draft in the latter rounds!

  27. nflisking says: Mar 10, 2010 1:17 PM

Maybe now that Holmgren is in charge the brownies wills start to become an actual NFL quality team after, oh, 20+ years or so.

  28. Greg2010 says: Mar 10, 2010 1:18 PM

    Shanahan call for him !!!!!!

  29. Anarcho Purplism says: Mar 10, 2010 1:20 PM

Put Quinn behind Favre & Sage. Maybe he’d learn something watching Favre.
I don’t know if the Browns would want to kick the tires with TJack……..
Having him compete in Washington, Buffalo or Tenn would be interesting.

  30. DB26 says: Mar 10, 2010 1:21 PM

    @myasylum:
As a Browns fan, if you want to make a straight up trade, Matt Flynn for Brady Quinn, I would be more than happy to do so. Under Holmgren and Haskell, Matt Flynn would become the next Matt Hasselbeck, guaranteed! Flynn is nice, why you would want Quinn over him is beyond me, but I would definitely make the trade if you would like to do so!

  31. TexansMike says: Mar 10, 2010 1:26 PM

Look for the browns to sign Garcia next.

  32. karmathaitch says: Mar 10, 2010 1:27 PM

Bearsrule hit that on the nose!! If your dumping both the QBs, then why the hell are you still with Mangina?!?!?? Guess he got tired of playing “door #1,2,3 QB!”

  33. jlbay says: Mar 10, 2010 1:29 PM

bearsrule – I couldn’t agree with you more.
Seneca Wallace isn’t a short term or long term solutions as a starting QB . . . so if Cleveland is floating Quinn as available in a trade . . . they must be assess what they can get for him . . . to try and determine how much they want to give up for a legit starter.
They get a 4th round pick for Quinn, then Cleveland could acquire Vick for a 4th rounder . . . you get a 2nd or 3rd rounder . . . then maybe they are in a position to go after McNabb.
I can’t believe that Holmgren is planning on Wallace being is starting QB.

  34. purpleguy says: Mar 10, 2010 1:31 PM

Browns fans will be cheering a Wallace injury by mid-season.

  35. emmac13 says: Mar 10, 2010 1:40 PM

Good back up to learn under Payton. Cleveland drafts Tebow in 3rd round.

  36. Laxer37 says: Mar 10, 2010 1:42 PM

He just signed with Tampa Bay (as their strength and conditioning coach).

  37. cowboys1 says: Mar 10, 2010 1:57 PM

i bet half of you guys writing all these hater comments have never even seen seneca wallace play. he should’ve started the last two seasons in seattle. he will start …….. and will be in the pro bowl, and why the hell would the browns want mcthrowuponhimself

  38. Other Bears says: Mar 10, 2010 1:59 PM

I know the game was over, but the dude couldn’t even keep the ball in bounds on two consecutive hail mary plays. He’s a huge bust and Holmgren is smart to try to shop him.
Wallace isn’t the answer, and I don’t think Holmgren thinks he is, but I’m sure he doesn’t think he’s gonig to turn them into playoff contenders in one year, so he can draft a future starter and develop him.

  39. clevelandbrowns4 says: Mar 10, 2010 2:10 PM

Hes a huge dissapointment i just want a qb who can throw for over 125yds can read nfl defenses like pro qbs suppose to do but wallace is not the answer period hope we draft or pick up a qb worht a damn

  40. superbowl says: Mar 10, 2010 2:16 PM

  41. redsysu says: Mar 10, 2010 2:20 PM

“As you can tell Sam Bradford is not listed, my gut feeling does not care for a spread offense, shot gun, frail quarterback! Period!”
Agreed. Bradford is very overrated and shouldn’t even be a top 10 pick but the Rams will draft him number one overall and then FAIL. lol

  43. michael says: Mar 10, 2010 2:38 PM

It’s retarded how people (the media mostly) labels brady quinn a “bust” when he had a total of 12starts over 3 years and 353attmps and was sacked over 30+ times. how is that enough for a guy to be labeled a BUST. But Vince Young a guy who before this season never through more tds than ints until this year got CREDIT for wins his rookie season where he through ONLY 12 tds 13ints. followed up by a 9td 17ints season. how did he help them when games putting up stats like that???? yet he is not labeled a bust. and in many circuts i heard people give Young credit for chris johnson rushing for 2,000 how is that possible? brady quinn can not be labeled a bust until he actually gets a chance to play. i cant wait until he goes to a place where he can be groomed and pieces can be placed around him. receivers that can catch the ball and a staff that knows how to keep one quarterback in to get some type of momentum.

  44. Playoffs?! says: Mar 10, 2010 2:39 PM

Brady Quinn = trash doo doo drops
Cleveland looks like they’re trying to get better this year. Getting rid of their crappy QB’s and starting from scratch.

  45. Dawgpound2009 says: Mar 10, 2010 2:51 PM

Send Quinn + Draft pick or player to Philly for Kolb.

  46. GB3Pack4 says: Mar 10, 2010 3:08 PM

I’m actually surprised at this move – my impression is that he’s never actually had a good-size chance – not at playing, not at being developed. His situation has been just loaded with uncertainty from the get-go. I’d like to see somebody pick him up and really put some focused, organized time and effort into developing him and playing him.
AFTER that, then we can fairly judge whether or not he’s got the stuff.
Whoever said (preceding this comment) that he should go to GB or the Vikes – that isn’t going to happen – both teams have already gambled and lost in that area – with Brian Brohm and John David Booty.

    _____________________________________
The Eagles would never give up Kolb for Quinn, unless that accompanying draft pick is a 2nd rounder. If the Eagles want an incompetent QB with ridonk athleticism, they can just keep Vick.

  48. gallogj says: Mar 10, 2010 5:08 PM

Quinn for Vick straight up! I would love to see a wildcat formation that included Seneca Wallace…Josh Cribs…and Mike Vick. Three super fast guys who can all throw the rock. (Cribbs was a college QB).
    Q. What does a defense do when they see Vick lined up under center…Cribbs and Wallace out wide…both coming in for an end around?
    A. Change their pants.

  49. gallogj says: Mar 10, 2010 5:10 PM

Do you need an offensive line if you have Cribbs, Wallace and Vick in the backfield? There’s not a defensive lineman who could catch either one of those three! Make it so.

  50. Subpar says: Mar 10, 2010 5:22 PM

I’m a Browns fan and I go to every home game. I don’t know that Quinn is the answer or not but I don’t think anyone does. Even Holmgren said in an interview a few weeks ago that noone knows Quinn because he hasn’t got a fair shot yet. You can rip on his arm strength but for the above posters like FMWarner who make incompetent QB statements you are clueless. Everyone says he is tireless on film and trying to become better as best he can and he was an honor student with a 4 year double major from Notre Dame. Incompetetent he isn’t. Comparing him to the animal killing trash of a player Vick is insanity….oh never mind hes your City’s Courage Award Winner (/rolls eyes)…..He doesn’t have “ridonk” athleticism, he hits the weight room maybe boarderline too hard.
He needs a QB coach to work on his footwork first and foremost and then take it from there. I hope he suceeds wherever he goes but I just hope if we get rid of him we have something setup for another starter to actually come in.

  53. dave626 says: Mar 11, 2010 1:41 AM

Rams should trade Bulger straight up for Quinn, both QBs need a fresh start, then we could take Suh instead of Bradford.

I’m comparing Quinn and Vick because they’re both workout warriors who haven’t lived up to expectations on the field. And the Eagles already have one of them, so they surely don’t need another. I’m sorry if a comparison between two players that only focuses on one aspect of them is too nuanced for you.
When trying hard, being an excellent student, or killing dogs starts to have anything to do with athletic ability, I will take your comments seriously. I can try even harder than Brady Quinn and get myself a PhD, and I’m still not cracking a D-III squad.
    Now I’m done.
