When it comes to free agency, the Buccaneers are in a perpetual state of denial.
More specifically, they are constantly denying something. They generally deny that they have quit spending money while specifically denying interest in players on whom money could be spent.
Most recently, the Bucs deny that free-agent Willie Parker is a candidate to join the team. Citing an unnamed, high-ranking official, the folks at PewterReport.com report that the Buccaneers aren’t interested in the veteran tailback whose former team, the Steelers, has no apparent interest in retaining.
Currently, the Bucs are fairly loaded at the position, with Derrick Ward, Earnest Graham, and restricted free agent Cadillac Williams leading the way.
So does this mean that the Bucs will be spending money on the other positions where there’s no denying that they actually have needs?
Bucs fans undeniably know the answer to that question.
Parker could thrive again with a good O-line. He was a great Steeler before the last two seasons.
C’mon, Browns, this guy ate your lunch for years. He’s got at least a couple of years left in him. GRAB HIM!
Damn his arms are huge in that picture :O
Parker should goto the browns for ~ $1mil a year for 2 or 3 year deal with a $500K signing bonus
No one is interested because he sucks.
McDonalds should sign this guy.
Just resign him Steelers and put him out of his misery
Wait! So are the Bucs getting blasted for being cheap because they aren’t interested in a running back who’s pushing 30. The Bucs are building from the ground up. Why waste money on a running back who’ll be too old to contribute by the time the Bucs are ready to contend? Conversely, wouldn’t Willie rather go to a playoff caliber team instead of one that’s a few years away?
I would love to see FWP stay with the Steelers for the right price. They may be doing a Ryan Clark with him, letting him test the FA waters but ready to sign him when market value is determined by someone else.
You need more than 1 capable running back these days. Rashard and Willie would make a good tandem.
He’s no longer the back he used to be. The only way he gains yardage is when there is a hole to run through. As soon as a defensive player makes contact, he goes down like a sack of potatoes. No power, only some speed left there.
I could see him in Arizona.
Willie’s age and sub-par receiving skills are hurting his value. He could be a solid change of pace guy for somebody but his feature back days are behind them.
It’s no secret the Steelers want him back as long as he’s willing to accept backup money.
He’s done. Face it.
Too much tread on the tires.
