"Lethargy addiction" label inadvertently sticks to JaMarcus Russell

jamarcus-russell-20jpg-2c6017157335872c_medium.jpgAs Raiders coach Tom Cable continues to try to coax maximum effort and ability out of quarterback JaMarcus Russell, recently declaring that the starting job is open for competition, a joke regarding the reasons for Russell’s failure to live up to his potential has unexpectedly gotten legs in the Bay Area.

As Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle explains it, a sarcastic remark in Gary Peterson’s Bay Area News Group column regarding a rumor that Russell is being treated for “lethargy addiction” was later echoed as fact by a Bay Area sportscaster.

Oops.

The contention has since taken on a life of its own, with multiple people believing that:  (1) laziness is now recognized as a condition; (2) there’s a treatment center for it; and (3) Russell has been enrolled in it.

Meanwhile, Russell apparently has been working out in Arizona in anticipation of the 2010 season.  Or maybe he’s just at a fat camp there.

“Coming up at 11:00 . . . .  JaMarcus Russell is at a fat camp.”

UPDATE:  Here’s the video of the guy who repeated the “lethargy addiction” thing as fact, via our pal Brooks.  We hope he knows that Terry Bradshaw is still alive.

“Biggest Loser in more ways than one” should be a business that Russell owns, but obviously has someone else operate.
JaMarcus, if you’re interested in starting this business, please feel free to contact me. I can design the complete operation for you!

Come on seriously you had enough articles today you didn’t need to throw in a “I hate the Raiders” article today did you?
Saying Jamarcus Russell is fat and lazy is like saying Michael Vick killed dogs….oh yeah you do seem to be a little retarded when it comes to stating the obvious in here over and over and over beating a dead horse with Brett Favre and Micheal Vick posts.
Seriously how can “You” make fun of the way anyone looks…you look like an inbreed West Virginian banjo player.

The Jam Carcus Hussell is a new dance craze sweeping the Nation’s fat and lazy.
This dance was started by none other than the Oakland Raiders’ JaMarcus Russell.
It involves very little movements, usually just to scratch varying areas of the body and to whipe food particles from ones face.

That shows how bad this guy has been. He has shown himself to be lazy, slow, dumb, careless, aloof, selfish, greedy, and just a lousy pro QB since the minute he was drafted. He has not shown one redeeming quality as a player or team mate in three seasons. This team would get better instantly just by releasing JaThargic. Everyone sees that, but Al.

Wow… just think about this for a second:
This is the turd that Phil Savage wanted INSTEAD of drafting Brady Quinn. But he couldn’t figure out a way to trade up to get him.
    Savage
    1) WANTED to draft Russell.
    2) DID draft Quinn.
    3) DID sign D. Anderson to a huge deal AFTER drafiing Quinn.
Phil Savage needs to be treated for “no-talent-ass-clown QB addiction.”

Florio has the respect of Raider fans. J thargic is another story. Every season ticket holder I know of has refused to re up this year for the Raiders… mostly due to Russell still being employed.
Greg Papa, the radio guy, is calling the house begging everyone to renew their tickets. the raiders have had bad attendance before but Al sticking with Russell this long will cost him his fan base this year: 30-40% of them from what I have been hearing.

JaMarcus Russell, is by far the best Raider qb. I sure hope Mr. Davis keeps this kid around for a long time.. Here in Denver we have a lot of respect for Al Davis and his handlilng of the team.. We sure hated to see Javon Walker leave the team. We really liked him a lot..

  48. Bob Nelson says: Mar 11, 2010 2:44 AM

It is not Raider hating that points out what Raider fans already know. This Russell guy cost them several games. He cannot throw they ball accurately.
The less he plays the the better the Raiders perform. I would bet that if they benched him the Raiders could have a winning record in 2010.
Disappointment in Russell is not Raider hating. It is pointing out that Russell is unworthy to start for the Raiders.

What was the line about “lies, damned lies and statistics”. Sanchez is a leader who had some shakey rookie moments and shows signs he will get better with experience. Russell has never been a leader and after the passable campaign you mention has regressed. I personally blame his coaching because when things have gone wrong he seems to be left to his own devices way too much.

    Florio:
Wait a second. Are you reporting that a reporter reported a rumor as fact and people believed it?
When it comes to the Raiders, that is what your entire website is based on. All you do is post rumor after rumor without ever checking on credibility. Most recently, according to your website, Seymour never wanted to be a Raider (but your website didnt post his comments about wanting to re-sign as a Raider until months later), you havent read the pertinent part of the CBA that allows the NFLPA to file greivances without a players consent, Cable was going to be fired, and Nnamdi was going to be a Jet (even though he said he was joking and just a likely wanted Revis to be a Raiderl; p.s. powder puff doll Cromartie is now a Jet, but apparently PFT never saw that one coming).
Considering PFT’s body of work when it comes to the Raiders, I think you should back off on calling out reporters that jump the gun and make outrageously wrong reports.
    Florio, step your game up!
    P.S. Richard Seymour says hello.

Because 1) Sanchez has a winning record as a QB, despite the individual stats, what about JR?
    2) When Sanchez was screwing up and throwing picks, he acted like he felt bad about it, what about JR?

i get a kick out of this….how many people if they win the lotto are not going to get lazy…….especially when you are a kid.
That is why all future nfl players are screwed. The owners want a rookie cap, and every member in the players association will get more if the rookies get less…
the only one surprising enough are the attorney’s who want these kids who have not proved a darn thing in the NFL to be the highest paid players at their positions in the nfl…
maybe if you have to earn the lotto, things would be different for J-Russ and the raiders.

  69. edgy1957 says: Mar 11, 2010 5:45 PM

Look, Russell hasn’t helped himself but let’s get real about what the Raiders did for him. In the first place, Al Davis drafted him without signing him before the draft. That resulted in a holdout that didn’t end until AFTER the season had started. You don’t want ANY of your first round picks to miss that kind of time but to allow the FIRST pick and a QB at that, stay on the sidelines that long is STUPID.
Then they hired John DeFilippo, age 29, to be his “mentor” and that didn’t work out and he was eventually let go (Ironically, the Jets hired him last year BUT as an assistant QB coach and let him go after this season). They finally hired a more experienced QB coach but they didn’t help themselves by putting him in charge of him for that long.
Russell’s problems have been more his fault BUT the organization didn’t help him at all. Maybe he finally wakes up and gets his ass in gear because despite what some of you think, he DOES have the talent to be an NFL starter and if he gets into the film room and works on his game, he could be a pretty good player (Of course, it would help if he doesn’t have to throw to DHB and for those of you who don’t believe that’s a handicap, remember, the OTHER QBs didn’t have to deal with him after they took over for Russell. The team phased him out AND Schilens finally came back to give them another reliable receiver).
