Report: Mason likely to return to Ravens

Despite reports that he was no longer a priority for the Ravens, wide receiver Derrick Mason may be back in Baltimore in 2010.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Mason is likely to remain a Raven, and that there is a very good chance of Mason and the Ravens getting a deal done.

When the Ravens traded for wide receiver Anquan Boldin, it seemed much less likely that they’d feel the need to bring Mason back. But the team apparently still views Mason as a potentially valuable part of their passing game.

In five years with the Ravens, the 36-year-old Mason has never missed a game and has had four 1,000-yard seasons. In 2009 he had 73 catches for a team-high 1,028 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

bring him back – he’s still a quality #2 receiver

He would make a great #2 WR now. And I think it would put Stallworth in the #3 WR spot where he belongs. Now they need to add some depth at TE and the offense will be looking good.

First story made no sense. Why wouldn’t the Ravens need Mason? We are talking about WRs here, you can’t really have too many good ones. At the moment I am writing this, they have Boldin, who is not a top tier WR. Then Mark Clayton, who really couldn’t make the roster on some teams in this league.

Thought the Pats were interested in him?

Bring him back!! He sucks and so do the Ravens. 8-8 if you’re lucky this season!!

As a Ravens fan, I saw what Mason could do as the #1 drawing double teams consistently. This should be exciting to see what he can do as the #2 and having Q take a lot of heat off of him.
Although his reception numbers may dip, I’ll be willing to bet his TD numbers go up.

Mason is good, but he did drop all key/crucial passes thrown his way in big or tight games. 4Th down pass dropped against New England inside the 20 in the 4th quarter. TD pass dropped that bounced off his facemask at the end of the Ravens Steelers game that cost them the game. Mason is good and would be a good complement to Boldin, but Boldin has much better hands than Mason.

Anquan Boldin isn’t a top tier WR?? What kind of sh*t is that? I’m not even a Ravens’ fan but I’d still give credit where it’s due. He’s had 5 1000 yard seasons out of the 7 he’s been playing in the league and a 3x Pro-Bowler, all while being the #2 receiver behind Fitzgerald, who isn’t even as tough as Boldin. Had it not been for injuries, he could’ve also had over 1000 yards in ’04 & ’07. So you’re saying Derrick Mason is top tier? Now that he’s left the desert, he’ll show how he’s the better #1 than Fitzgerald.

Katmanduu….I think you’re feeling the pressure that your precious Steelers might not make the playoffs….again next year. But reality has to set in for us Steeler haters…who know the league and officials will do whatever they can to let them in.

Katmandu…shouldn’t you be at a college bar hitting on chicks who want nothing to do with you and getting in trouble…oh wait, I’m thinking of someone else. ;)

boldin, mason, stallworth sounds pretty good to me. only issue is health.

Washington….the NE drop was Clayton, not Mason, though you are right about the Pittsburgh drop….
Bottom line is Mason is a very dependable receiver and would be a great #2 WR on most every team in the league….
    GET ‘ER DONE OZZIE!!!!!

If the Ravens address TE in the draft they seem to have “on paper” a top 10 offense.
