Roethlisberger investigation keeps moving

The details continue to emerge in the Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault case, and in lieu of doing a post every time a new development occurs, we’ll simply post an update once per day or two or whenever we think of it.

Our friends at TMZ report that police in Milledgeville have seized security camera footage from the nightclub where the sexual assault allegedly occurred.

Per the report, multiple cameras were placed in several locations throughout the club.  Roethlisberger supposedly can be identified in some of the footage.

Meanwhile, TMZ also reports that some comments posted on Facebook and Twitter by the accuser’s sorority sisters have been removed, at the direct instruction of the sorority to which the women belong.  We’d heard, admittedly second hand, that some of the messages might have actually indicated that Roethlisberger didn’t do what he allegedly did.

Finally, the second set of sexual assault allegations has created a critical mass of sorts regarding the perception that Roethlisberger is a jerk.  Talk radio in Pittsburgh has been flooded with accounts of boorish behavior by Big Ben, and Colin Cowherd of ESPN Radio pointed out during his Tuesday show that there are many in the media who have stories to share about Roethlisberger being a butthole.

“Difficult, ego, likes to be a big fish in a small pond, treats people poorly,” Cowherd said of the things he has heard from folks in the business about Ben Roethlisberger.  “It’s been eye-opening to me.  Roethlisberger’s made some enemies.”

We’ve heard several of the same stories from media types we trust, making it hard to feel badly about any consequences that such behavior might trigger, regardless of whether a crime technically was or was not committed.

Anybody from Ohio will tell you that most Miami alumni are like that. No surprise.

  2. Laxer37 says: Mar 10, 2010 4:43 PM

Colin Cowherd is calling someone out for having an inflated ego?
Funniest thing I heard all day!
Both guys are ego maniacs, but let’s keep in mind that only one of them has two Superbowl rings to justify the ego.

  3. wryly1 says: Mar 10, 2010 4:44 PM

Have TWO (2) relatives who were at Miami during the same time as Ben in the tiny college town of Oxford, OH. He had a reputation then of being an ahole – as well as a pig around coeds.

    Pig Ben strikes again.

  5. Dixon29 says: Mar 10, 2010 4:45 PM

He is a pig. Flat out.
Stop throwing Tiger to the wolves. He is a Priest compared to Ben. The only difference is that Ben isn’t married, which is a huge difference, but still doesn’t give you the right to treat woman with such little respect.

  6. superfan99 says: Mar 10, 2010 4:46 PM

So what your saying is, whether Roethlisberger (or any other athlete) is or isn’t guilty of a crime, he deserves to be publically criticized because he’s occasionally a jerk to the media?

  7. TheWizard says: Mar 10, 2010 4:50 PM

I’m no fan of Ben or the Steelers, but either bring forth charges, or wrap this thing up.

  8. Skin_Flute says: Mar 10, 2010 4:50 PM

Roethlisberger investigation keeps moving – just like Ben’s hand up the thigh of his next unwitting victim.

  9. SteelCurtnDee says: Mar 10, 2010 4:50 PM

I think if Ben did what he’s being accused of he needs to be locked up…
But what does him being a jerk have to do with anything? I mean that’s not a crime is it?

Good night, Florio. Tell me an attorney didn’t write that.
Assuming the assault charge is bogus–and frankly, I am assuming that–I’d like to grab Ben by the ear twist it ’til he yowls, drag him to a chair, plop him down, and read him the riot act for a couple of hours in my own inimitable way.
But rape and sexual assault are far too serious to be used as get-rich-quick schemes on lump-headed egomaniacs. And our jail space needs to be taken up by real sexual predators.

You feel “bad,” not “badly.” Unless, of course, you braced your fall in a motorcycle accident with your hands, as opposed to your head, like the quarterback above once did.

  14. Catamount says: Mar 10, 2010 4:57 PM

Not a Steeler fan, but being a butthole is not a crime. The media who judge him made that butthole only to step back and gasp, “Butthole.” Yes, celebrities have the advantage in conflicts with mere mortals in court because they buy better counsel, but the mortals also target the celebrities who are vulnerable in some situations. Bottom line, Everybody involved is a butthole.

  16. copes cabana says: Mar 10, 2010 4:58 PM

I have never dealt with or even met Big Ben, but know many people who have. They all say the same thing. He doesn’t act like his status as an NFL quarterback makes him better or that he is some sort of NFL god. they say he is just a jerk. That if he were a bus driver he’s be Ben the bus driving jerk. He’s a hell of a quarterback though. I sure hope he didn’t do this, but either way, he needs to change if he wants to stay in favor with the fans. If he stays on the right side of the law though, and wants to be a jerk that wins more superbowls, I am fine with that in my teams quarterback. I work with many people who are great at their jobs, and act the same way. that is their right as long as they stay on the right side of the law.

Deb, I agree completely about reading Ben the riot act. But I don’t know if I would grab his ear, and I would probably use something like a pair of pliers LOL. But seriously, if he comes away with no liability in this, and he still does not get the message, what can you say? This has to be the end of the embarrassing behavior with him. After he retires he can do whatever he wants.

That is what always kills me, when people watch some of these guys and really think because they watch the guy on TV that they know them.
I see PFT is doing it’s part to start to spread so called second and third hand information to try and defend Dumb Ben, much as you did in the Lake Tahoe posts.
No one is that unlucky, if it walks like a Duck and talks like a Duck it is a Duck.
As long as you are spreading second hand info. I saw a picture Ben took with the victims friend prior to the alleged Rape. You can see he is blitzed out of his mind. After he made a move on this kid and she rejected him he turned to go hit on another kid calling the one in the picture a Bitch.
Whats with this punk, is he intimidated by being around women close to his age. The old guy has to go hit on kids just out of High School? Charges or no charges this guy is nothing but a PUNK.

  29. CKL says: Mar 10, 2010 5:20 PM

Not a Steelers fan, don’t like BR… & never have…but I don’t think he’s some sort of rapist either. I think he’s just a guy who doesn’t like to be told no or told what to do. I mean think about it…he had publicly reported problems getting along with the last coach who actually wanted to coach him up(Whisenhunt). He doesn’t like authority. He had teammates questioning his work ethic and had snipefights with them publicly (Ward last year & the whole “tall receivers” thing). I’ve never thought of him as a leader. There were reports of his not being picked as a captain either until somehow he wound up as one. Leaders set examples…good ones. He has yet to do that IMO.
Being an arrogant non team leader drama queen type butthole who won’t take coaching isn’t a crime though. It just isn’t what I want to see in the QB of my team.

  30. house068 says: Mar 10, 2010 5:20 PM

Stupidity. If being a butthole means that you feel entitled to anything that you want, then it can be a crime. I can’t believe that he is stupid enough to have sex with this girl in a bar. The only way this story holds water is if she went into the bathroom and then he went in after she did. If they went in together and there are no other witnesses saying that they know anything else, then you can’t prove anything. Charges can’t be brought about. If they went in together, alone, and came out together, its a he said she said thing.

  33. Sinjin187 says: Mar 10, 2010 5:24 PM

Well as a die hard Steelers fan I hope this isn’t true. I can hardly believe after the last incident Ben would put himself in that situation. Maybe the girl figured since he was accused once, people would be more apt to believe her this time. I don’t know. If it turns out to be true, well he just needs to go. I hate to say it but no matter how good he is we can’t allow that behavior. I love the Steelers but I love the game more. I think I would have a difficult time watching my team play with a QB that got special treatment because he was an NFL player.
Ben… I know it will be painful but pull that big block head out of your rectum and get it together. Otherwise you will be going to the rec. yard with Rae Carruth and Pac-Man Jones

Seems to me if anyone needs to apologize it’s that big furry fool Ben for putting himself in the position in the 1st place.
Regardless of the outcome his rep is shot, kaput, done. I get the feeling he may be paying for sex in the future not only to protect himself from situations like he’s in now but also because he can’t get it anywhere else.

Being a jerk or an asshole is different than sexually assaulting someone. He should know better than to put himself in that situation though. I find it an interesting coincidence than he gets a 100 million dollar contract and now every girl that he has a 1 night stand with is trying to get rich. Hopefully he did no wrong doing and is exonerated. Of course his image is gonna take another hit during all this.

I went to Miami with the Benitentiary and he was usually not too bad, but he could be obnoxious when he was drunk. Welcome to the club.
Then, randomly I ran into Has Ben at Nemacola resort and he was falling over drunk on the bowling lanes. He was completely obnoxious and out of control. I think that was like two summers ago. He also looked out of shape and banged up since when he was in college. The guy has changed quite a bit over the years, and not for the better.
I’d guess that he didn’t rape the woman, but he’s clearly out of control and in need of a sitdown. People who can’t behave themselves on booze should lay off of it.

    @Holeinone09 …
I probably couldn’t reach his ear anyway LOL
    @BonnieD …
Do you really think Tiger Woods is the only married professional athlete who’s had multiple lovers? But he’s the one who’s in the news. Why? Something lit the fuse and set off a chain reaction. That’s what happened here.
In Tiger’s case, once stories about one lover surfaced, all the other women came out of the woodwork … most hoping for their 15 minutes. They’re looking to cash in–and don’t be surprised if at least one doesn’t file a civil suit for something. In fact, it’s very possible that Tiger’s attorneys already have reached settlements with these women specifying that the details be kept under wraps.
In Ben’s case, he had a one-night stand with a woman who told several people she hoped she was pregnant and wanted to go to Pittsburgh in hopes of running into him. She was also involved in an online relationship with a nonexistent person invented by the wife of her former lover. When that blew up, she had a breakdown and ran up thousands in medical bills. That’s when she sued Ben. Apparently Tiger had ongoing relationships with several of his women. Ben had a one-niter … and she needed money.
Once that accusation was made, he became an easy target for similar allegations. Being a jackass and a dog around women doesn’t help.

FLORIO, you state you’ve heard the same stories from media types you trust…yet you quote Collin Cowherd, …it’s actually funny to read Cowherds description of Ben, “difficult, EGO, likes to be a big fish in a small pond, treats people poorly”,…IF I didn’t know better, that would sound like someone describing Cowherd, especially the EGO part,…anyone who’s ever heard his radio show, it’s all about Cowherd and his EGO, him talking down to his listeners,…I’ve heard people on a local ESPN radio station, when the hosts were asked about Cowherd, they didn’t spend a lot of time talking about him, but the hosts said enough, you could tell they didn’t like him…Jenille Hill of ESPN wrote an article critical of Ben, MAYBE you could have referenced her in this article, instead of an asshole like Cowherd, who is as much an expert of BIG EGO and being a jerk, as OJ Simpson is an expert on domestic violence.

@Massappeal …”He’s trying to get enough demerits to get hired by the NFL Network when he is done playing.”
    That’s just funny!!
Based on where he has a house, there are not many restaurants and bars in the immediate area to hang out in. He should’ve just stayed home, but assuming that he didn’t have anything better to do, then I could see why he went to Milledgeville.
One item, I’m sure Cornflorio has mentioned, is that this lady described him as big white guy, 6’5″ 241lbs…….. not really anything to get your attention until you think about it….

Opie – can you point me to the source for her describing his weight? I have heard that said, but haven’t run across the source. Not saying it doesn’t exist, just haven’t seen it.

That photo is from 2006. It’s not the alleged “victim’s friend.”

I really like this site for football NEWS. Shame that it has gone out of its way to report gossip throughout this process.
Your comments about Ben’s personality and such remind me of something I’d see in the National Enquirer. Whatever happened to responsible journalism? From the beginning, I said I didn’t want to delve into the legalities of this case but now, thanks to news about this woman’s decisions and history and your own asinine commentaries, you actually have me rooting for the guy to pull through the character assassinations.
Just how close to the line of “slander and libel” is the media going to get?

Doctor K – this is America. You’d have to prove that there was malicious intent in order to win a libel suit. You’d have to prove that Florio had it out for Ben and was trying to hurt him. Do you think he is?
And I think many would agree that this site is half sports and half Enquirer, which makes it unique and entertaining.
“…but now, thanks to news about this woman’s decisions and history and your own asinine commentaries, you actually have me rooting for the guy to pull through the character assassinations.”
Such as? What decisions and history? I have not heard anything about her. Please share.

@ Johnnyb612 – There is a difference even though neither is right to me. But sexual assult is breaking the law and not wearing a condom is just foolish.
