Carr, Willis had a friendly chat

There are no hard feelings between David Carr and Patrick Willis.

Willis, the 49ers’ Pro Bowl linebacker, wrote on Twitter last weekend that he thought it was a waste of time for the 49ers to consider signing Carr as a backup quarterback. But after the 49ers went ahead and signed Carr anyway, Willis softened his tone. And now Carr says he and Willis had a pleasant conversation about the matter.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that Willis actually called Carr on Saturday, a day before Carr signed with the 49ers. And a post attributed to Carr at TwitLonger offers some details.

Patrick called me almost as soon as he posted his thoughts,” Carr said. “We had great talk, I admire his passion for his teamates [sic], but I believe I can help this team.”

Whether Willis also believes Carr can help the team win is another question. But now that they’re teammates, both Willis and Carr are saying the right things.

that’s pretty classy of Willis to call Carr and not hide behind his comments. that speaks volumes IMO.
….that being said I agreed with his first comment. LOL

That’s what I wanted to hear. Willis is friends Hill who is probably on his way out because of Carr.

Willis is a stand up guy and I’m glad he did this.
It’s amusing that most sports pundits are saying Carr will be starting before the season is over and completely disregard that he has been signed as a backup.
Then again, it’s not like that would be surprising. I just struggle to see Carr as the answer.
I’m looking forward to next offseason when the Alex Smith ordeal will be solved 100% either way (clear franchise QB or looking for another team.)

David Carr – Alex Smith – Shaun Hill
Carr might actually be the best option if Singletary can get him to man up like he did with Vernon Davis.

yep, he had a friendly chat with him, then Willis sacked David Carr, seriously now, good for these two to talk, Carr is a good backup to have.

Singletary better get to the playoffs.

A true leader, I like how Willis reached out to him to talk to him, and not let the media dictate “how they feel.” That’s what men do, or should do.

  9. raiderrob21 says: Mar 11, 2010 12:49 PM

Singletary must have dropped his trousers and gave him a pep talk. Hope Eric Green wasnt BEHIND him!

  10. Tony Snow says: Mar 11, 2010 12:52 PM

Willis was just upset with the organization and of their review/thinking of the previous season …. knowing that anyone that saw their performance would come to the conclusion that their team needs far exceeded needing another QB. Carr may be able to help, …but his skills wont make up the deficit on the other side of the ball. IMO

For the people saying David Carr might be better than any QB on the 49ers roster…..have you ever seen this guy play? Not the the niners QB situation is great but David Carr?!?!?!?!
I mean I know he’s white and your not going to treat him like the original Jamarcus Russell but i mean c’mon really?
I have a theory that he just happens to be the most charming person on planet earth because thats the only way i can fathom the fact he keeps getting jobs.

David Carr hasn’t done much of anything in his career to speak of, but you are way off on the JaMarcus Russell comparision.
At least Carr had the balls to stand behind one of the worst O Lines in the league for 5 years and try. That fat bastard Russell doesn’t know what the word effort means.

  13. Cmoney20 says: Mar 11, 2010 1:58 PM

David Carr created most of the sacks behind the supposed “Worst Offensive Line” ever. Lets just repeat whatever the analysts say on ESPN and pass it off as our own opinion. sha’ll we?
He held the ball for 10 secs on every snap. give me a break.
So he actually put in the effort and is as bad as Jamarcus Russell. Even worse. It has nothing to do with race, im sure of it.

Oh please, if you are going to try to make this an argument about racial discrimination…there are a TON of black QB’s you could use as an example. But JaMarcus Russel? Are you serious?
    /facepalm

i thought this was an article about Chris Carr and Willis McGahee

According to some NYG fans I’ve spoken to (who are notoriously ruthless in their assessments), Carr has looked like a different QB behind Manning…fixed mechanics, sharp throws, etc. I have to see it to believe it, but there IS reason to believe he has stepped up his game.
Still don’t see him as a long term option.

@Tony Snow- “Carr’s skills won’t make up the deficit on the other side of the ball.”??
Don’t wanna bash on you, but are you talking about the niners defense? If you are maybe you should watch a couple of their games and see what an excellent job they do, especially considering how much time they are stuck out on the field. The Niners are a solid corner and strong safety away from being one of the leagues ELITE defenses.

  18. Big Stretch says: Mar 11, 2010 2:21 PM

I’m not over here saying that David Carr is good, but he didn’t hold the ball for 10 seconds every time.
I don’t really care enough about this to argue with you.
They both suck but,I would rather have David Carr than JaMarcus Russell anyday.

  19. GoBrowns19 says: Mar 11, 2010 2:33 PM

That’s classy. Actually, I think Willis’ disparaging comments were pretty classy too. He’s sticking up for his current teammates (at the time). There’s not enough of that in this me me me society.

  20. Tony Snow says: Mar 11, 2010 3:23 PM

@RaiderhateR4life … Niners are a solid corner and strong safety away from being one of the leagues ELITE defenses.
You just answered your own post. With that being said, ..shouldn’t that be your priority!?!? And IMO, I think that’s what Willis was trying to say. No knock on Carr!

  21. Cmoney20 says: Mar 11, 2010 3:57 PM

    @ Big Stretch
No no, you dont want to argue with me because your wrong. It’s a fact he held the ball way too long so there really isnt an argument, its right there on film. I mean i was exaggerating when I said “10 secs everytime” but he made big ben look like he gets rid of the ball quickly. Just keep regurgitating what you hear on ESPN and pass it off as your own opinion.
But your right there really is no argument because its right there on film, all you have to do is look at it.

“I’m not over here saying that David Carr is good, but he didn’t hold the ball for 10 seconds every time.”
Well that was obviously an exaggeration, but when he was with the Texans he made Big Ben seem like he got rid of the ball quick
“I don’t really care enough about this to argue with you.”
You dont really care because your wrong. I mean its right there on film, so your right, there is really no argument. He made the offensive line way worse than what it actually was.
“They both suck but,I would rather have David Carr than JaMarcus Russell anyday.”
    I agree
“Oh please, if you are going to try to make this an argument about racial discrimination…there are a TON of black QB’s you could use as an example. But JaMarcus Russel? Are you serious?”
I was using JaMarcus Russell as an example because he was also the #1 pick like Carr. But now that you mention it Vince Young gets bashed way worse than Carr and VY is 27-13 as a starter. Your right im sorry, this has nothing to do with race.

  23. Big Stretch says: Mar 11, 2010 5:59 PM

so you studied every snap or was it that you watched a few highlights a decided from that….somehow i doubt you reviewed all 5 years of his time in Houston.
but whatever bro if you need to feel like you’re right then go for it.
