After spending Wednesday night and Thursday with the Vikings, running back LaDainian Tomlinson has left Minnesota for a visit with the Jets.
According to Jim Trotter of SI.com, L.T. said he “really liked” what he heard in Minnesota.
Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Tomlinson left team headquarters within the hour holding a Vikings jersey.
Trotter says that, if the Jets really want Tomlinson, “they’ll have to bring it.” L.T. told Trotter that the Vikings “really wowed him,” and that he “could see himself playing there.”
Peter King reported earlier today that L.T. could visit the Eagles and Saints next week; Trotter says that Tomlinson acknowledged that he has set up tentative visits next week, but that he could make up his mind over the weekend regarding his next team.
The Vikings make the most sense for LT and for the team.
For LT, it’s an indoor team that is a contender, with the best QB a 3rd down RB could ever ask for.
Plus if everyone believes that LT is one AP fumble away from LT starting, this will push Tomlinson AND Peterson that much harder.
This also cinches Brett returning, who won’t be able to resist this marquee line-up.

He’s never had anyone as big as AP on his side of the ball before. How’d that work out? Brett took over the offense and made it a pass first team, and now instead of being referred to as the best player in the NFL, AP is getting more press about his fumbling than his running.

L.T. has nothing left. Didn’t anybody watch him last year. No burst, can’t shed a tackle. I’m a Vikes fan and I could care less if we sign him.
Why does everyone think LT is a good fit in Minny as a 3rd-down back? He’s never, I mean never, fulfilled that role. IMO (and I’m a Bears fan), they’d be better off drafting a young RB with some upside. LT’s only upside is his “star” appeal.

Let them have him. LT has NOTHING left in the tank. LT was once great but is one the decline much like Shaun Alexander was. Both players were some of the best ever when they were in their prime but being the focal point of an offense for an extended number of years takes it out of these guys and eventually they break down with no chance of coming back. LT once relied on quickness and his ability to move in small spaces, he doesn’t have it anymore. As for the 3rd down role, the guy had 20 catches last year…

I would take Favre on 3rd down in almost any situation you could think of EXCEPT in the clutch (basically any playoff game in the last decade). I don’t have stats to back it up but I would be willing to bet that ol’ #4s 3rd down statistics are ridiculously good, they might even compare to Aaron Rodgers’.

I’m a Vike’s fan and don’t get me wrong I would love LT to sign with us, but the Jet’s are a much better fit. All they do is run he will get plenty of carries in NY not so many in MN

How many times does it happen that a player goes to one city, meets with a team, gets an offer that is such that another team would have to “really bring it” in order to sign the player and then the player leaves without signing a contract? Sounds like LT was not too impressed by something? Maybe they should have brought the tractor in from Mississippi or at least taken him out on a boat.
He should definitely explore the options in New York, Philadelphia and New Orleans. Two of those team have very little leeway when it comes to signing unrestricted free agents, so LT (being a player who was cut) is pretty much one of the very few options for them. LT can wait and see what other teams have to offer, it’s not like the Vikings will sign somebody else…..

What are you talking about? LT fulfilled the 3rd down role for the Chargers up until this past season. Check out his receiving stats – last year was the first time in his career he caught fewer than 50 passes, many of which were on 3rd down. I do agree about drafting a young RB which they would probably do regardless of signing LT.

No one with the team seems to mind Favre showing up later than everyone else to camp, so why does it bother you? Besides, he has only so many throws left in his arm, so why waste them in OTAs and camp?
I guess since his team has improved by two wins per season since taking over as head coach I guess he must have some idea of how to build a team. (Coaching is another story however.) In fact, many people actually in the business of playing, coaching, evaluating or reporting on football seem to think the Vikings have one of the most talented rosters in the league. Don’t think that happened by accident. Some people are just knuckleheads!

i disagree with people saying this. yes the jets are more of a running team, but they are more of a smash-mouth, cloud of dirt style running team. this is a good way for LT to get himself busted up even more. with the vikes he will probably be used less but the offense and the situations he will get snaps in will be much better for his abilities and what the vikes need him for.
personally, i don’t really want LT, but i think we are a much better fit for him then the jets and he probably realizes that. also, considering what the jets were willing to let thomas jones go for they are obviously not going to offer him much.

Handling LT is going to be a challenge where ever he ends up. If I was the Vikes and he left without signing after being “Wowed” I would now know what he wants and thats MONEY. Which he should but dont give me any of that I want a ring thing. If LT signs with the Jets he will not make through the entire season and he will not be in uniform at the end of season.
I respect the fact that Jets and Saints fans want him so bad, but you know that he’s a better fit for the Vikings.
I also don’t think he’s that clever/deceitful to bluff everyone in saying he was “wowed” if he didn’t mean it. it was him, not his agent. It isn’t a guarantee he signs, but if he says he was “wowed” then I believe him. This isn’t to say that NY can’t also “wow” him, but I don’t think it’s a negotiation tactic.
I just don’t see a 31 year old LT playing in cold, snowy NY to take the place of Thomas Jones. I also don’t see him being part of a RBC in New Orleans taking Reggie Bush’s inconsistent spot.
If the Saints want him, LT will end up with the Saints. Anyone who knows anything about the Chargers knows that Brees and LT are very good friends. Plus, the Saints are a SB contender since they just won one.
The Saints are a warm weather team, yes I know they play in a dome, and in a warm weather division.
Rhe Jets will get him well below what TJ wanted. My mother could get 1,ooo yards with the Jets O line!
