Browns won't pursue Fargas, either

Nobody wants Justin Fargas.

The former Raider visited the Eagles today, but Jeff McClane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the team isn’t interested in signing him.

Now, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns aren’t interested, either.

Fargas also visited the Chiefs, who signed Thomas Jones.

So it looks like Fargas could be a man without a team.

Lions need him. They really do, if for nothing more than depth at RB.

chester taylor got signed so i dont see how he wont….im pretty sure they both suck though

  3. hooky40 says: Mar 12, 2010 9:18 PM

Seahawks possibly?? They don’t have anybody who runs like Fargas (between the tackles)…

  4. mjohnson062 says: Mar 12, 2010 9:22 PM

He might have a shot with the Bucs, for league minimum.

  5. lotusfather says: Mar 12, 2010 9:29 PM

He should visit the Bengals… Carson might like his old HB on the team.

  6. TFBuckFutter says: Mar 12, 2010 9:29 PM

    That doesn’t sound right.
I DISTINCTLY remember Raider fans saying Fargas could be traded for a 1st round pick whenever the Raiders wanted to do so.
Now that he’s free, teams must be lining up.

So just maybe, the Raider’s weren’t full of it about the physical he failed. Maybe Fargas thinks he is in better health than he actually is?
Either way, he ends up back on the Raiders.

  8. MasterShake says: Mar 12, 2010 9:33 PM

The Vikings and Jets are both interested in LT2 so whichever one doesn’t get him may want to look at Vargas. Somebody should ask Huggybear about this. Maybe Vargas just looked good because he was on the worst team of the last decade. Lion fans are more proud.

Fargas is a hard runner, and decent halfback; but unfortunately his position is one of the most disposable in the league unless you are elite.
He might have to wait until the draft, injuries etc. before he lands somewhere.

Anyone still believe Fargas is “healthy”?
He’s met with three teams (Chiefs, Browns and Eagles) and has not signed a contract to date?
I remember the quote from his agent, “Justin feels healthy.”
Feeling and being healthy are two entirely different things.

  11. DCViking says: Mar 12, 2010 10:05 PM

Maybe Justin would have more luck if his dad would promise to come to games dressed as Huggy Bear

  12. JOldewurtel says: Mar 12, 2010 10:06 PM

He’s probably out of the league…

  13. GoBears84 says: Mar 12, 2010 10:13 PM

Fargas is real underrated…I remember watching a game where i think he had 180-200 yds on the ground…and he only came in for the 2nd half….He’s not the biggest guy, but will run through a brick wall if he thinks he can gain an extra inch on the play…He’s a hard runner and has heart. somebody will pick him up and he’ll obviously be a real sleeper, but i think he’s quality depth.

  14. Floriosadouchebag says: Mar 12, 2010 10:24 PM

Eagles finally did something smart by not signing Fargas. Now resign Westbrook for a more reasonable contract.

  15. OLDCRACKER says: Mar 12, 2010 10:43 PM

Apparently we are seeing an improved Browns front office.
I made my feelings known the other day about Fargas. Yes, he WAS a decent runner with a lot of heart but that was all wasted on the Raider nation. We (Browns) have had our fill of these has-beens, if we are to move forward we cannot do that anymore.
I’m not anti-Cleveland or anti-Browns, or even anti-Fargas. I am anti these traditional patch jobs just to sell tickets.
Apparently, Big Mike and Co. are truely bringing a new day and a new way of doing business. I so want to see a respectable team representing my city.

Hey florio, whatever happened to your statements that no free agents will come to cleveland because of mangini!?! Fujita, pashos and watson are 3 quality players, and the browns are not done! I guess you hate the browns so much your opinion clouds the facts. Can’t wait to hear what’s up next!

  23. fisherman says: Mar 13, 2010 1:46 AM

Sorry, but I just love it when ex-Raiders can’t find a job somewhere else. Once you’ve sold your soul to the devil (Al Davis), you’re marked for life.

I would love to know what Fargas has done to make folks think that he is a back to lust after. Talent-wise there are a hundred Justin Fargas level backs available.
He is definitely a tough runner, but he has never been a goal line threat, a home run hitter. great receiver or a 20 carry a game back. He isn’t terrible; just average all around.
I agree with a poster above, eventually someone will sign him for depth; he definitely (at 30) isn’t a “game changer”.

  29. EaglesFan290 says: Mar 13, 2010 12:30 PM

The problem all free agents are having this year is age, production vs. age, how deep the draft is especially at very specific positions like running back, the uncertainty of where the CBA might stand in a year, and the fact no one wants to overpay. It is a shame the NFLPA didn’t think this through before heading into an uncapped year I think a lot of guys were unprepared for what happened.
When you look at the draft I think there is a very real possibility you can get a young running back that does what Fargus can do in the 3rd-5th round. I can’t remember a year when there have been so many 210 lb quality running backs. The other problem is that even though he is a Vet most players need a year to learn a new system; the same is true for a rookie. I think Fargus is 30; the perception is when you hit 30 the production starts to decline. In Fargus’s case that decline has been noticeable over the last 2 seasons.
If you are looking for a Vet who will bring leadership to a locker room I would think LT, Westbrook, or Mike Bell would be better options. I’d rather have a leader from a winning team anyway and not the Raiders. They all are more versatile than Fargus although in Westbrooks case who knows if he can even pass a physical.
Personally I would prefer to see Westbrook retire he would make a good sports announcer and the guy has a solid education to fall back on. I read he is close to having an advanced degree. I love the guy he is a class act, he has way too much to offer his family and life beyond football to risk another serious injury.
