Bucs sign Jon Alston

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have actually signed a free agent.

The Bucs have announced the signing of free agent linebacker Jon Alston, a restricted free agent who wasn’t tendered after spending the last three years with the Oakland Raiders.

PewterReport.com reports that the Bucs are likely to use Alston as a backup for weakside linebacker Geno Hayes, as well as on special teams.

Alston played from 2007 to 2009 with the Raiders, and he started four games last year. He entered the league with the Rams in 2006.

Be still my heart! What a lovely progression in team management. Now, next question, what have you done for me lately?

I still don’t understand all the bashing the bucs are getting from you guys, yeah, they didn’t make a big splash in free agency, but have you seen the free agency this year? just doesn’t make sense expending big bucks in average players when your team still is a work in progress.

Thankfully, this post came out on a friday evening. Most of the morons might miss a chance to bash Morris and Dominik.

i love when people bash the bucs on this site…90% probably didn’t even see one bucs game this year and for the 10% that did…i can guarantee you that you just hate on them just because you can because they had a crappy season with a rookie QB and a rookie coach

sticking up for my team makes me a fag?
    guess you got me there…

Those of you who don’t understand all the bashing, do you realize the Bucs were 3-13 last year with little hope of improvement this year?

Hey Wolvie, I watched several Bucs games last year and this team will be just as bad next year. Radio is not a coach he is a place holder. Josh Freeman now has the worst WR corp in the history of football and you have done nothing to improve your defense. The draft can only help so much.

Alston’s a good special teams player. Very fast and athletic. Good guy. Decent backup LB.

Good riddance. the raiders really need to overhaul the LB corps. Time to get rid of dead wood!

idropbombs – another jet jockey “high” on jet fumes and so far above the action he is out of touch and has not a clue to what’s really going on down below.

I have season tickets, was at every home game, saw every game including preseason and completely disagree with Wolfie. Radio STINKS. He is in WAY over his head and he is by far the worst head coach in the NFL.

As Autumn said, Alston has got great wheels and is a great athlete. Smallish, fast (sub 4.5), and smart (Stanford), this guy could really be a player in the T-2.
For those of you that bash the Bucs and say they won’t get any better…. you’re basically all idiots. Simple math would dictate that the Bucs went 3-6 in their last 9 games, 2-1 in their last 3 (including a win in New Orleans over the eventual SB Champs). With a full year with Morris at the defensive helm, their D will be greatly improved, especially after weeding out Jim Bates’ players (there weren’t many, but he had the DL all gain weight to be bigger), and with Josh Freeman getting 9 games of experience, a full offseason, and a full training camp, he can really make significant strides in 2010, this team should win no less than 7 games. No, that isn’t great, but this team is heading in the right direction.

Boy the Bucs REALLY missed out not spending $100 million on Albert Haynesworth last year…
