At a time when more than a few NFL owners are diversifying their portfolios by picking up pieces of English soccer clubs, the man who owns a new stadium that is hosting a diverse range of events has no plans to invade Britain.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently told the Daily Telegram (via Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com) that he has no interest in acquiring a different kind of football team.
“Not that I want to sound like it is not interesting and good, but
I have only one interest, and I wanted it to be the perception of
everyone, that all that interests me is the Cowboys,” Jones said. “I am
very hands on here, I’m even accused of coaching the team at times, but
what has happened is that I have invested myself fully in this and I
will be in it until I drop.”
So there you have it, Cowboys fans. For better or worse, the owner/G.M. isn’t going anywhere, until he goes to the Great Football Cathedral in the Sky.
He brought 3 Super Bowls, chances are he’ll bring some more before he drops.
Yay
Who cares?
English soccer?
Futbol.
Owner Tom Hicks of the Dallas Stars hockey team and Texas Rangers wishes he never would have bought an English league team.

Hicks loses billionaire status
(UKPA) – 16 hours ago
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has lost his billionaire status, according to Forbes magazine’s latest rich list.
However, the Texan businessman was still ranked 701st richest man in the world, with an estimated fortune of around 950 million US dollars (£620million).
The American – who also owns the Dallas Stars ice hockey franchise – has already agreed a deal to sell the Texas Rangers baseball team for £310 million but appears in no hurry to offload his 50% share in Liverpool, despite pressure from disillusioned fans against the way he and co-owner George Gillett have run the club.
I think thats cool, following in Al Davis footsteps.
This is great news to the NFC East in particular and the rest of the NFL as well. With Mr. Botox being “totally involved” with the cowgurls, we don’t need to worry about the gurls winning a division much less another SB. Jerry wants to try and prove to the world that he can win a SB without Jimmy Johnson or Bill Parcells…..what an egotistical basterd!!!!!
When Jerruh dies he’ll probably have his body put on permanent display in his beloved stadium, like Lenin in the Red Square
Good. Jerry Jones is the best team owner in the NFL and he runs an honest ship. He’ll be inducted into the Hall of Fame one day.
Not a Dallas fan at all. Actually quite the opposite but I love this guy’s enthusiasm for his team. I wish the Glazers had even a little bit of his passion for running an NFL team.
Ahh who cares, next. Use your leads and bring us something good Florio…..
Idiot. When the NFL is locked out, you are going to have to find a way to bring in the money aside from concerts and rodeos. Aquiring a Futbol club would be nothing but a plus, even the smaller clubs make honest earnings.
“”until he goes to the Great Football Cathedral in the Sky”"
That has got to be just about the gayest thing you’ve ever said.
I’m sure millions of English Futbol fans just breathed a sigh of relief.
Of Course He Is Focusing ON The N.F.L.
Little Jerry wants to be in The Hall Of Fame like Al Davis.
I think little Jerry has a picture of Al Davis mounted to the ceiling above his bed, and goes to sleep every night, looking up, and dreaming to be as talented as Al Davis ONCE was when he was a successful coach and owner.
Jerry can never achieve what Al Davis did… No Matter how much he wants to be the COACH and GENERAL MANAGER of The Cowboys.
Below are dreams Jerry will never reach that his hero did.
Coach of the Year in 1963 (Yes Al Davis Actually Could Coach.) Unlike Jerry who thinks he can.
Al Davis, his hero…. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992
Jerry will be dead and gone, his ashes spread over a Texas landscape while Al Davis’ bust will be in the hall and fame for 200 forever.
Well at least his goals for soccer are the same as they have been in football for the last 14 years. Not to have a team thats won anything significant.
“So there you have it, Cowboys fans. For better or worse, the owner/G.M. isn’t going anywhere, until he goes to the Great Football Cathedral in the Sky.”
—————
And we’re OK with that.
21 seasons with Jerry Jones as owner/GM = 3 Super Bowl wins, 8 division titles, 12 playoff appearances. Fans of a team with a better 21 year stretch, please go ahead and trash on Jerry Jones. Otherwise, don’t you wish you could tout that record?
I Can’t stand the Cowboys, never have, never will… But Having an owner who is fully dedicated to the team is a blessing few cities can claim. Jerry is good for his team.
That’s why I’m glad to be a KC fan… A team founded and owned by one family for 51 years that despite a few bad seasons here and there, fans can always be proud of. My thanks to the Hunt family for all they’ve done and do!
I LOVE JERRY JONES… how can u not?
“This is great news to the NFC East in particular and the rest of the NFL as well. With Mr. Botox being “totally involved” with the cowgurls, we don’t need to worry about the gurls winning a division much less another SB.”
Haven’t they won the division two out of the last three years? Why, yes they have.
“Well at least his goals for soccer are the same as they have been in football for the last 14 years. Not to have a team thats won anything significant.”
What’s “significant” to you?
“Idiot. When the NFL is locked out, you are going to have to find a way to bring in the money aside from concerts and rodeos.”
Yeah? How much can he bring in with concerts and rodeos?
Fool. Jerry Jones is a billionaire businessman that just built a $1.2 billion stadium in a crappy economy. I doubt that he needs financial advice from you.
“Jerry wants to try and prove to the world that he can win a SB without Jimmy Johnson”
He already did that.
“or Bill Parcells”
THIS guy hasn’t won a playoff game since the 90′s. Wade Phillips has already surpassed Parcells as far as the Cowboys are concerned. Even when the team was mostly Parcells’ guys, Wade took them and won four more games than Parcells did with them.
Jerry Jones already looks like a corpse. And he lives on pure narcissism.
MrHumble I have news for you, Jerry Jones already won a superbowl without Jimmy Johnson or Bill Parcells! Bill Parcells didnt win one with the cowboys so I fail to understand your point about him.
Maybe MrHumble has been humbled! Also you mispelled “egotistical basterd”.
Also maybe you are trying to be cute but incase you just dont know cowgurls is spelled cowgirls.
Has anyone ever seen Skeletor and Jerruh in the same place?
I wish he would buy something else to play with. I hate the Cowboys and want them to suck.
Jerry Jones is a great owner.
Key phrase, that 31 other teams like to hear:
“I am very hands on here.”
We know Jerrah, we know. Keep up the good work!
It is only pronounced futbol in Spanish. English football club. CHELSEA FC!!!!! Rumors that Kroenke might buy up some of the Broncos and sell off his Rams shAres. That dude might be the most diversified sports owner.
I’m not a Cowboy fan…but you’ve got to respect this man’s love for the game and his football team. Comparisons to Al Davis are ill advised…Mr. Jones has a winner and in control of all his mental faculties.
@purple jeebus:
“When Jerruh dies he’ll probably have his body put on permanent display in his beloved stadium, like Lenin in the Red Square”
lol….that’s eerie
@MrHumble…you might want to check the final division standings for two of the last three years in regard to Jerry’s team “never winning a division title, much less a SB”. Jerry aggravates the hell out of me sometimes, but I always know that he wants the Cowboys to win just as much as any passionate fan. I’ll live with that over what about 2/3 of the teams in the league deal with.
Manchester United Cowboys
Mr Humble,
“we don’t need to worry about the gurls winning a division much less another SB.”
Genius! Especially since Jerry’s team has won the Division 2 out of the last three years. Clearly no reason for the rest of the teams to worry.
Do you actually think before you post or is the mental effort beyoind you?
“I’m even accused of coaching the team at times”
No shit, like last season during their first prime time broadcast, when the camera zoomed in on Jerry in his luxury box holding a play chart.
And no Vox, it wasn’t a menu… because moments later they showed Garrett & Philips on the sidelines looking over the same one.
No wonder Jones is keeping Philips, JJ scoured the earth to find that spineless sock puppet.

I hear they already have the molds made, to have Jerry’s mug embossed into every urinal in the place.

You must be new here, welcome to PFT.
So I guess he won’t be buying Liverpool. Okay Snyder you’re up!

Uh????? Who won the NFC East 2 of the last 3 years?????? MORON!!!!
I don’t understand how this is “news.” “Jerry Jones isn’t doing something that nobody cared about anyway.”
When did profootballtalk.com become ESPN?
Firstly, thanks for sharing this bit of insignificant trash with us Florio. As for Skeletor..errr..Jerry Jones, that guy couldn’t buy a soccer team right now if he wanted to. That stadium put a big hit to his wallet.
“No shit, like last season during their first prime time broadcast, when the camera zoomed in on Jerry in his luxury box holding a play chart.

Riiight, because you can tell what’s on a piece of paper by the way a guy holds it.
Must be doing something right. His team won the division, didn’t it? Maybe he ordered the $60 pizza!
20-16
24-0
34-14
I am not buying a Soccer team either is that news?
“I don’t understand how this is “news.” “Jerry Jones isn’t doing something that nobody cared about anyway.”
It’s the Cowboys, therefore it’s big news.
However, it’s not bad Cowboys news, so Florio has to cook up something that he thinks is bad i.e. Jerry Jones is too broke to diversify his portfolio by buying a soccer team, Jerry Jones will be involved until he dies, etc.
Florio missed a golden opportunity to promote his NBC overlords’ interesting prime time show “Who Do You Think You Are?” in it’s first episode last night. Emmitt Smith traced his ancestors back through the slavery era and uncovered some pretty interesting facts. Like the fact that he has caucasian blood and that his slave ancestors were kept together through several transactions, as opposed to being broken up and sold or traded off as was the case with most slave families. I’m sure that he’ll mention something about the show next week when Lisa Kudrow will be on, though.
Jerry Jones will burn in Hell
Let’s see… the only reason they won three Super Bowls in the 90s was a.) The Herschel Walker trade highway robbery and b.) Jimmy Johnson. (In the third Super Bowl the coach was irrelevant because the pieces had already been put in place by Jimmy – i.e. the talent selected by Jimmy was already there in Troy, Emmitt, Michael, etc – any coach could have won with that team)
Let’s also see… the only reason they have any talent on the team right now is because of Bill Parcells’ genius for evaluating talent: DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, Andre Gurode, Miles Austin, Terrence Newman, Jason Witten, etc.
Jimmy Johnson’s gone. Bill Parcells is gone. Now I guess Jerry Jones evaluates the talent and runs the ship? That sort of explains why the biggest move the Cowboys have made, talent-wise, since the Parcells era was to mortgage away their future by trading a 1st round pick and MORE for a scrub like Roy Williams.
Yep, sounds like the Cowgirls are in good hands!
First pre-requisite of owning a team in the english league… having a grasp of the english language. Jerry needs a tutor.
This guy is the modern day version of Al Davis.
The rules have changed a long time ago. Free agency makes it tough to get to the top and stay there. Jerry hasn’t made the adjustment and thinks he knows it all.
Guys like him, Davis and Snyder are what’s wrong with the NFL. They live in the past and haven’t adjusted to the new NFL. Been a while since Jerry’s won anything.
What Jerry you wouldn’t want the “World’s Game” at Cowboy Stadium? Think about the possibilities Jerry, you could invite the POTUS, otherwise known as the Citizen of the World and have hooligans involved in crushings, stabbings, shootings and burn down your new palace. You could show America, the “World’s Game’s” creativity.
“I am very hands on here, I’m even accused of coaching the team at times, but what has happened is that I have invested myself fully in this and I will be in it until I drop.”
as a giants fan, i hope you don’t ‘drop’ any time soon.

“Let’s see… the only reason they won three Super Bowls in the 90s was…”
What a ridiculous game that is to play. Jones doesn’t get credit for hiring Jimmy Johnson at a time when no other NFL team would have? I remember the hiring of Johnson and firing of the entire old Cowboys front office regime. Jones was mocked for it. It was a ballsy move and paid off big-time. Jones wasn’t just magically blessed with Johnson. He went out and got him, and deserves credit for that, just as he deserves blame for hiring Dave Campo.
But, if we’re gonna play the “the only reason game”, how about this: The only reason the 70s Steelers won 4 Super Bowls is because this was before free agency and the salary cap and they could lock up their players for their whole careers. The 90s Cowboys would’ve matched or exceeded the 4 Super Bowl wins if free agency hadn’t chipped away at their talent base.
Parcells did a lot to help the organization out, no doubt, but there are plenty of good players on the current squad who weren’t brought in by him. Among them are Mike Jenkins, Leonard Davis, Anthony Spencer, Andre Gurode (you are wrong that Parcells drafted him; he was there before Parcells.), Flozell Adams (he’s everybody’s villain, but the guy has made a couple of Pro Bowls), Keith Brooking, Felix Jones. You point to the Roy Williams acquisition, and there is no denying it was terrible. But the overall talent on the team has improved since Parcells left. Of the list above, Jenkins, Davis, Gurode and Adams have made the Pro Bowl with the Cowboys.
And, to top it off, Tony Romo has managed to go through his entire life without being accused of rape. Impressive, no?
to all the cowboy fans that think winning the last two out of three division titles means anything, lets face facts, after getting the division title you did squat.going to the big show is what counts.
@SixBurgh6
Regarding your assertation that Bill Parcells is responsible for Demarcus Ware, it is common knowledge that Bill Parcells wanted to spend the 11th pick on Marcus Spears and then hope that Ware fell to 20. His opinion was overridden. I wonder who it was that made the final call on Ware? Parcells was responsible for Jacob Rogers, Stephen Peterman, Skyler Green, Al Johnson, and Anthony Fasano.

Nice of you to just ignore the picks and signings Wade and Garrett have made with JJ.
Mike Jenkins is a top 5 maybe top 3 corner in the league, Felix Jones is finally staying healthy and is very explosive, Tashard Choice will eventually replace Barber, Anthony Spencer arguably played better than Ware down the stretch in 2009, and he’s brought in key free agents like Sensabaugh, Brooking, Olshansky, and Hamlin.
Felix Jones has yet to prove himself. Shows flashes, but let me see a 1000+ yard rushing season from this guy. Same goes for Choice.
Mike Jenkins top 3 corner? You’re out of your mind. He’s solid, but there are at least 9-10 other cornerbacks I’d take over this guy in a pinch: Nhamdi Asomugha, Derelle Revis, Jabari Greer, Leon Hall, Asante Samuel, Charles Woodson, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Champ Bailey, Jonathan Joseph…
Spencer showed flashes, but anybody would look good playing alongside Ware. Let me see a consistent 10+ sack season from this guy next year.
Bringing in free agents != drafting either.
Most American owners that buy English soccer teams have NO CLUE what they are getting themselves into until they are in it knee deep
Tons of debt, insanely difficult outside of the Top 4 teams, and a long-term investment which can take a LONG TIME to develop
Lots and Lots of money need to be invested too
