Loomis will show Sharper "love," not money

In a Friday press conference with the media, Saints G.M. Mickey Loomis addressed a variety of matters relating to the Super Bowl XLIV champions.

But his best stuff came in connection with still-unsigned safety Darren Sharper.

Sharper, who joined the team as a free agent in 2009, has said recently that the Saints have yet to show him “love” in contract talks.

Said Loomis, via Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune:  “Listen, I’ve got all the love in the world for Darren Sharper.  I just don’t have all the money in the world for Darren Sharper.”

Annnnnnnd boom roasted.

Sharper currently is recovering from knee surgery, which has derailed his free-agency tour.  We were told last week that Sharper underwent the arthroscopic procedure before attempting to find a new team due to concerns that he would not have been able to pass a physical.

Sharper was a beast last year…if the Saints let him go they don’t they will lose at least 3 more games this year.
But Sharper like T.O. has to relize this is a business and they are aging commodities.
But age aside you pay for production, Sharper produced better then arguably all the other safeties in the NFL last year…PAY THE MAN!

He only said that because Sharper is black…

DAMN! That’s harsh and hilarious. Darren, welcome to the Jets.

He is a good player at the end of the road. He really can’t expect huge money at this point – not if he is at all realistic.
William’s D scheme allows him to ball-hawk. As such, that is the best possible system he could be in.

He is NO GOOD Why do u think the Vikings released him ???

The ONLY thing that makes sense here is for the Packers to trade punter Jeremy Kapinos and former 1st rounder Justin Harrell for Sharper and Reggie Bush.
    Straight up.

you don’t overpay a guy that can’t tackle or cover. and he only gets interceptions from errant passes or tipped balls. he was without question the most overrated player in the league last year. he is an average good. but he wasn’t a beast, or unstoppable. also, he is old, can get burned easily, and has knee issues.
some will say he can hit. FALSE. but he can throw his body at defenseless receivers. sure, he has amazing return ability, but, he can’t tackle. See Joe Addai in superbowl making sharper look like a fool.

simply, you don’t pay him top dollar

SHARPER’S A DOUCHE. Miami or Chicago can have him because they’ll only be paying for his attitude. Sharper wouldn’t have had the majority of his interceptions if it wasn’t for Tracy Porter & Jabari Greer’s outstanding coverage. Chip Vaughn’s speed and athleticism will fill in just fine, if not be better than Sharper.
You give someone a shot to resurrect their career and a chance to get a SB ring, and this how they repay you.

Sharper has his ring, from here out it’s all about money and nothing else.

The answer is simple… offer him a contract with a moderate base salary and loads of incentives. It protects the team and it gives the player the opportuntity to make ca-zash by proving his career year while playing in an ideal system wasn’t a fluke.

No one has resigned Darren Sharper. Ever.

I’d say Sharper was pretty darned good last year, but they’re not going to give him much. He’ll leave in free agency. New Orleans had better look out for Atlanta in the South.

Point nailed right on the head here:

Really? Ask Brett Favre if Darren Sharper can’t cover or tackle? DS beat Favre to smithereens in that championship game…11 tackles in that game from him. If you didn’t watch his performance, don’t bother to comment.

Sharper is a great player and i would love to have him back, but check how many INTs were against rookie QBs last year, and then check to see how many the Saints play next year.

You cant watch his performance. He’s never around the ball, therefor never in the camera shoot.

As a season ticket holder I would prefer us to move on and either give that spot to Young or Chip, or put Jenkins back there, anyone who watched a game this year knows it was Greer and Porter who did the dirty work, when they went down what happened, 0-3, where was Sharper then?

Replace Porter and Greer with Revis and Cromartie, plus Ryan and Williams are similar.
Sharper’s exit from the Saints sure wasn’t classy, BUT, he was only on the team for one year. Not like he was a veteran on the team.

Mickey Loomis is a smart GM and I love his swagger. The Saints front office is one of the more respected in the NFL these days.
So D-Sharp, Loomis showed you the “love” …. now sign the deal.
