Even though their biggest-ticket player has relocated to Chicago, the Carolina Panthers have decided to raise more revenue by increasing ticket prices.
Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Panthers announced on Friday that they will increase ticket prices by anywhere from $1 to $9 per seat.
Gantt points out that it’s the eighth time in 11 years that the team has jacked up the cost of admission. In every year except 2003, 2007, and 2009, the franchise has increased prices.
The cost of Panthers’ tickets remains in the bottom half of the league.
Which tells us that they should have set the price point higher a long time ago.
Gotta pay for Delhommes 13 mil “retirement fund” somehow, right?
They can justify it now that theyre not turturing their fans w Delhomme
That sucks. They have to pay Jake Delhomme 12 million dollars not to play. And watch Peppers leave now they have to pay more for tickets. Whats next Mike Vick gonna be the QB. LOL
So you’re saying that every team that charges less than average is underpricing their tickets? I think the people of Detroit and Jacksonville would have something to say about that.
I think Panther fans will be so thrilled that Jake Delhomme is finally gone that they will be happy to pay a little bit more for tickets.
Last year’s phenomenal season cost each fan:
$1.44 per Jake Touchdown pass
$2.77 cents per Peppers sack
This season’s $30 million dollar salary slashing moves has cost the average fan $4.
Now, Florio, since you think your eyeball assessment of what Panther ticket prices should be, did you consider that the Panther fans bought seat licenses? Did you also consider the low cost of living equates to lower incomes for the same jobs held in other cities. So, these prices should be lower and kep affordable. That was a stupid comment.
That’s pretty amazing actually. It’s pretty apparent at this point that the Panthers are using the circa 2000-2002 Cleveland Indians economics model for a professional sports franchise.
Cut everyone. Keep personnel costs low. Get what you can from the fans. Hope that players play over their heads and very occasionally make a run at the playoffs.
Next year, I expect to see them start to dump their running backs.
thank you catamount
“The cost of Panthers’ tickets remains in the bottom half of the league” That’s because the panthers are in the bottom half of the league!
So much for attendance. These owners will find that it doesn’t work well when you charge more and put an inferior product on the field.
And good god Florio, did you seriously insinuate that every team in the bottom half of the league in terms of ticket prices should set the bar higher? Somebody has to be in the bottom half of the league, you fool. Otherwise, everybody’s prices would skyrocket annually, nobody would go to games due to a lack of affordability, and the league would fold. I’m sure you already knew that, but some of your jackass comments in this article here would suggest otherwise.
Carolina’s prices should be in the bottom half of the league. The franchise doesn’t generate the demand for tickets that teams like Pittsburgh, Washington, Denver, Green Bay, New York (x2), Dallas, and others do. Many franchises have waiting lists and ridiculous sell out streaks… Carolina is not amongst that elite.
Mine went from $90 to $97. Thats a pretty big jump.
Just happened to log into my account last night knowing they had to annouce them sooner or later and saw my invoice. Guess Jerry is building up the rainy day fund.
Anyone want to buy some PSL’s in section 115?
Thank you Catamount! You’re one of the few including people who write these articles to insert a bit of common sense that is seemingly lazily forgotten.
