PFT Daily: Is T.O. Hall-worthy?

With no one presently interested in receiver Terrell Owens, there’s a chance that he won’t find someone willing to pay him the kind of money he wants?

So what if, like Marvin Harrison a year ago, T.O. prices himself out of the market?  In five years, will he end up in Canton?

That’s the topic of today’s PFT Daily.

No doubt he is. Numbers dont lie, but he might not get any QB’s vote.

  4. JJCheesehead says: Mar 12, 2010 2:37 PM

hmmm……..arent his number comparable to irvin?

  5. Stone says: Mar 12, 2010 2:38 PM

You gotta be kidding me. There’s already a glut of WRs worthy of the Hall that are waiting in line. I highly doubt folks are going to vote for this guy just because of his attitude issues. And with passing becoming so prominent in the last 20 years, there are numerous WRs with seemingly Hall-worthy stats. I bet TO falls into the category of “great player in the decade” but not Hall of Fame great.

  6. milehiclown says: Mar 12, 2010 2:39 PM

    Shortest segment yet!
    Answer: NO.

  7. jjared1101 says: Mar 12, 2010 2:39 PM

Hate TO all you want, but is this really even a debate? Easy 1st ballot.

  8. ggoldman says: Mar 12, 2010 2:39 PM

T.O only has the regular season numbers, he has no rings, so he will end up like Cris Carter (wait 3 or 4 years after eligibility) and then get in

  9. Johnson says: Mar 12, 2010 2:40 PM

    read my typing..NO!

Being a legend in one’s own mind is not sufficient to gain entrance to the HOF

  11. kjl451 says: Mar 12, 2010 2:42 PM

lol. Nope. He may have put up above average numbers, but acting like an assh@le isn’t going to get you in the HOF.
Cue responses of other media-unfriendly pros to make the HOF.

  12. Cincinnasty says: Mar 12, 2010 2:42 PM

Absolutely the dumbest question I have ever heard coming from this site.. This is an obvious no brainer.. T.O. may not be popular with some people but his productivity and numbers while playing in the league is undeniably a first ballot Hall of Famer..A better question is what team would he choose to go in as..

  13. Igottz5onit says: Mar 12, 2010 2:44 PM

he has the numbers but I think he will at least struggle with the votes

  14. 69ers says: Mar 12, 2010 2:44 PM

    Doosh? Yes
    HOF’er? Yes

  15. AutumnWind999 says: Mar 12, 2010 2:45 PM

Yes. He may have to wait and his failures as a teammate will cost him some votes, but there’s no denying the numbers he’s put up and his accomplishments over his career. Clearly a Hall of Famer.

  16. Deeznutz says: Mar 12, 2010 2:46 PM

    Yes.

  17. bednarik60 says: Mar 12, 2010 2:46 PM

On an unrelated note, the DWA counter is up to 20!

  18. Bobarian says: Mar 12, 2010 2:47 PM

He is definitely hall worthy as a player; the question is will the HoF voters punish him for his off-the-field antics.
I think they hold off putting him in for a few years, while his numbers support him being a first ballot guy.

  19. ButchD says: Mar 12, 2010 2:47 PM

he will get in, but not first ballot

  20. D wins games says: Mar 12, 2010 2:47 PM

Let’s see. Zero rings. 3 teams disrupted. Made is teammates worse not better. A great talent, but not a Hall of Famer, at least not until a lot of the WRs in the queue already get in.

  21. thegoldengod says: Mar 12, 2010 2:47 PM

I think T.O. will eventually sign for less….b/c unlike Moss he loves to compete.
—T.O. should be a first ballot HOFer, but he may take a round or two to get in…just based on the way voting has been lately.
—Why Chris Carter and Shannon Sharpe are not in already…who both should have been 1st ballot players by their #’s —-makes no sense….so T.O., who has the 2nd greatest receiving #’s of all-time may inexplicably have to wait an extra year or two.
But is he a HOFer…easy…no question about it.

  22. Cincinnasty says: Mar 12, 2010 2:49 PM

T.O. was the most dominant WR of this decade maybe 2nd to only Randy Moss..

  23. kr says: Mar 12, 2010 2:50 PM

Yes, as long as the requirements haven’t changed to boyscouts only

  24. Jetstastic says: Mar 12, 2010 2:51 PM

why don’t you losers give TO a break

  25. Dark Donnie says: Mar 12, 2010 2:52 PM

If by comparable you mean T.O. blows Irvin out of the water then yes….T.O. is arguably a top 3 or 4 WR ever.

  26. natey91 says: Mar 12, 2010 2:52 PM

Irvin isnt even close to TO.
    Irvin had 750, 11900, 65 TDs
    TO has 1006, 14951, 144
5th alltime in total TDs, 6th in catches, 3rd in receiving yards, 3rd in receiving TDs.
Terrell Owens has to be in the hall of fame. This shouldn’t even be a question.

  27. thecrazytomato says: Mar 12, 2010 2:53 PM

I doubt he is first ballot, but he will get there eventually. I think just his personality alone would keep him from being in on the first try. Unfort. Humans do the voting, and TO has rubbed people the wrong way.

  28. DallasFan in NY says: Mar 12, 2010 2:53 PM

Yes, and he’d ask McNabb, Garcia and Romo to be his presenters….

  29. TryTheVeal says: Mar 12, 2010 2:55 PM

  30. fresno500 says: Mar 12, 2010 2:56 PM

  36. db3300 says: Mar 12, 2010 3:00 PM

“arent his number comparable to irvin?”
Don’t know if that’s true or not but Irvin could put the team on his back and carry them to a win when he had to. Owens could only dream of doing that.

  37. FireJerryJones says: Mar 12, 2010 3:02 PM

Sure he does. Numbers don’t lie. He played well in the Super Bowl on a bad leg.
There’s no rule against A$$holes getting into the hall is there?
You’d have a long list based on that criteria.

  38. tacious says: Mar 12, 2010 3:05 PM

  41. Hauschild says: Mar 12, 2010 3:08 PM

HOF numbers, yes. HOF personality, no.
He’ll eventually get in, but it won’t be on his first ballot.

  42. Dixon29 says: Mar 12, 2010 3:08 PM

In my reality, HE IS A HALL OF FAMER WITHOUT A DOUBT.
The problem is that these writers won’t vote him in just like Cris Carter. What a joke

  43. Mr Krinkle says: Mar 12, 2010 3:10 PM

I hate the guy, but there is no doubt he is going to the hall of fame. 3rd best receiver ever imo, behind Rice and Moss.

  44. CarlosNelson says: Mar 12, 2010 3:12 PM

Yes without a doubt, he’s in the top 5 all-time to ever play the position!

  45. Rickah99 says: Mar 12, 2010 3:14 PM

Why would he? At present, he only leads in 1 category:
    Team Cancer.
I’m not up on HOF requirements, but is that one of them?

  46. jdv85 says: Mar 12, 2010 3:14 PM

    14,951 career receiving yards, 144 td’s, 1006 receptions.
In 13 seasons Marvin Harrison had 14,580 receiving yards (less than Owens), 128 td’s (less) , 1102 receptions (more).
Chris Carter on the other hand had 13,899 career receiving yards (less), 130 td’s (less) and 1101 receptions (more).
So unless everyone values the number of receptions over yards and touchdowns, Owens has had a more prolific career than either Harrison or Carter. TO is a shoe in.

  47. CapsLockKey says: Mar 12, 2010 3:15 PM

The guy is a douche, but his performance on the field more than warrants it. Yes
It’s not the “Hall of Character”.

  48. Bills North says: Mar 12, 2010 3:16 PM

T.O.’s in for sure…then Andre Reed.
Didn’t Marvin Harrison shoot himself out of the market? Just checking.

  49. thegoldengod says: Mar 12, 2010 3:19 PM

HOF voting for wr’s makes no sense…
How about you evaluate how important superbowl rings are for WR’s. Or how worthless rec TDs are?
Michael Irvin…65 career rec TDs (in HOF on 2nd chance)
Chris Carter…130 career rec TDs (not in HOF…going to be 3rd chance)
    Irvin td’s (65) + “future HOFer” Hines Ward (78) = 143….T.O. 144 TD.
T.O. has an insane amount of TDs…5th all-time
    behind who?
    1. Jerry Rice
    2. Emmitt Smith
    3. L.T.
    4. Randy Moss
How is that not first ballot?

  50. Yash says: Mar 12, 2010 3:20 PM

TO may have been a deusche but his “off-field issues” were never anything legally troubling. He may not have been the greatest teamate but that doesnt keep you out of the Hall. His stats get him in for sure, and in his prime ( which was about a decade) he could single handedly change a game. Arguably the only other WR in his class during his playing time is Randy Moss.
HOF for sure. he was the best at his position for a long time and demanded at least double coverage every single time he stepped on the field.
people complain about hsi stats being bumped up because of the passing era. A lot of his yards came after the catch. Unlike Marvin Harrison(product of passing era IMO), once he got the ball in his hands he was just as dangerous and a threat to score from anywhere.

  51. jdv85 says: Mar 12, 2010 3:22 PM

    14,951 career receiving yards, 144 td’s, 1006 receptions.

TO put the 49ers on his back in the second half of the playoffs against the Giants and completed one of the best comeback victories in playoff history.

  53. Dark Donnie says: Mar 12, 2010 3:23 PM

Owens is a better WR then Irvin….period.
Also, Carter didn’t make it yet because the HOF wants Rice to be the 1st First Ballot HOF WR.

  54. DontBEHating says: Mar 12, 2010 3:23 PM

No shot. He was never a winner. He will never be a winner and is numbers are average by hall of fame standards.
sorry T.O. your 15 minutes of fame are over.

  55. Ron says: Mar 12, 2010 3:24 PM

Actually, this is a GREAT question and here’s why. Look, the fate of potential Hall of Famers are in sportswriters hands and there are some who hold grudges and prevent Hall of Fame worthy players from being first ballot Hall of Famers (Cris Carter, Shannon Sharpe, Michael Irvin, just to name a few). Terrell Owens, based on what he did in his career, is a slam-dunk first ballot Hall of Famer, BUT considering his reputation, do you REALLY think that sportswriters will do the right thing and put aside their feelings for Owens and vote him in on the first ballot? I don’t see Owens being voted in on the first ballot based on how the voting process is right now. This is why I think that the Hall of Fame voting process is flawed and should be changed. I think that the voting process should be made public because far too often, cynical sportswriters hold grudges against certain players and should be held accountable when they don’t vote for a worthy player. Guys like Owens and Randy Moss( who is even more deserving of being a first ballot Hall of Famer than Owens) will probably have to wait a few years before they are voted in and that’s not fair.
So to answer the question, Terrell Owens SHOULD BE a first ballot Hall of Famer, BUT because of cynical sportswriters who don’t care for Owens, he WON’T be a first ballot Hall of Famer unless the voting process is changed before his time up for being voted in.

  56. Dr. Kenneth Noisewater says: Mar 12, 2010 3:29 PM

He is beyond the shadow of a doubt a Hall of Famer. He is also quite possibly the most EPIC douche in the history of Sports. I hope he stays in the limelight so we can all watch him go down in flames and spend all of his money a la MC Hammer.

  57. Bwa Ha Ha says: Mar 12, 2010 3:31 PM

No, Football is a team sport. Any guy that wrecks a team for his own personal ego does not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
Owens tore three teams up with his antics.
    NO

  58. dietrich43 says: Mar 12, 2010 3:34 PM

The HoF has elected Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, and Michael Irvin in the last few years. The HoF took forever to elect Art Monk, they still haven’t elected Cris Carter, and even Andre Reed is still floating out there.
So, who knows what they’ll do. They sure don’t seem to have any consistent criteria.

  59. English_Buc says: Mar 12, 2010 3:36 PM

I don’t care if this guy doesn’t have a ring. What T.O did in Superbowl 39 defied belief, he is such a competitor, and he is one of the few players in the league today that would make me pay money to watch them personally. He has insane numbers, if Randy Moss, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Marvin Harrison, Jimmy Smith and Rod Smith are all going to get in (which I’m sure they all will), T.O deserves it as much as they do. Believe it or not, he has given a lot to this game, and most WRs have a reputation for having a big mouth and wanting the ball, so I don’t blame him for that.
8 years from now, he’s being inducted!

  60. earlcampbellrules says: Mar 12, 2010 3:38 PM

Easy Hall of Famer! Numbers don’t lie, 147 total TD’s, and don’t forget how well he played in his Super Bowl appearance. A much more dominant WR than Carter, Reed, Harrison, or any other waiting to get in to the Hall in the next few years.

  61. Mike_in_Texas says: Mar 12, 2010 3:38 PM

T.O. Will go in as a Raider once we win the Superbowl in 2011 in Indianapolis

  62. LighTsouT says: Mar 12, 2010 3:47 PM

T.O. will eventually get into the HoF, however, he’s far from a first-ballot at this point. Did you guys forget, when Chris Carter retired, he was #1 or 2 in ALL MAJOR wide-receiving categories (which eventually Jerry Rice passed), he’s now #2, 3, or 4, and he’s going to be on his 3rd or 4th ballot next time around. (I don’t remember which one it is, forgive me)

  63. rbais2 says: Mar 12, 2010 3:53 PM

    Hey Mike,
This link has a presenter for Terrell Owens’ Hall-of-Fame candidacy.
    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Bills-Terrell-Owens-has-1000th-career-reception-70163605#
Her name is Charean Williams of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram.
    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Bills-Terrell-Owens-has-1000th-career-reception-70163605#
The following was said about her in this article:
At least one voter, Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, believes there’s no argument that Owens’ numbers are worthy of consideration.
“What I think voters are going to hold against him is the fact that he never won a championship,” Williams wrote in an e-mail. “He had the chance in Philadelphia, and his comeback in the Super Bowl was heroic. But even then the Eagles couldn’t win.”
Williams then added that she would “have no problem presenting him.”
By the way, there were other distractions in other Super Bowl winning locker rooms. Plus, it is EXTREMELY contradictory to say that a distracting player causes teams to collapse when worse things like injuries to key players, bad coaches, and playing surface [ala Warren Moon not playing outdoors and indoor teams always losing in conferencegames in outdoors settings.
Plus, there were only 3 or 4 years where an “Owens distraction” occurred out of 14. So, more great years than bad.
Plus, his personality was NOT always the reason why his teams did not win super bowls. Certain teams are just not good enough and the media is just plain lazy and fail to look at list of a team’s distractions, transactions that could have hurt teams, events, or situations when it is ALL archived in the internet.
Plus, the media is hypocritical to say that no excuses are allowed in football, but then … “Okay, T.O. was there. We’ll give it a pass.”

  67. thesaint257 says: Mar 12, 2010 4:07 PM

He may be an A-hole as well all know, but if that corrupt bastard Irvin can get in, T.O. is in, and he has the numbers. If T.O. has Larry Fitzgerald’s personality, everyone on here would say yes.

The answer to the question is NO. If T.O.
gets into the Hall of Fame, people will learn
his odd behavior on and off the field. His
behavior dancing on the Dallas Cowboy field,
his behavior with the Eagles, Cowboys and
the Bills. He isnt’ a class act person but a
very immature person that does not deserve
to be in the Hall of Fame. Like he thinks
there is an I in “Team” but there is no I and

they put it next to OJ Simpson.

Chris Carter…?? Please, he was douche as well. AND not as good as T.O.

  77. P. J. says: Mar 12, 2010 5:46 PM

    T. O. was hired to do a job as WR. He did more than do his job, he went over the top. The NFL is a Professional Football League, not a Pee-Wee touch football, where you have to please everyone. T. O. earned the right to be in the HOF.

  78. PlayMaker88 says: Mar 12, 2010 5:58 PM

He will not be a first ballot HOF. He will get in and deserves to. Criminals(like my boy) have got in so character is obviously not part of the equation

  79. KINGSROW says: Mar 12, 2010 6:47 PM

Sorry guys , he may have the numbers but HOFamer right now?…no freaking way. Too many hip hoppers on the TO bandwagon or something. Or maybe it’s just a bunch of the same people that were duped into voting for nobama . Oh well…To be in the HOF first ballot you have to have the numbers(which he has for now) and you have to be a hero out there and act like somebody instead of an arragant asshole that continually bit the hand that fed him and his psychoticly mega ego. This isn’t about “old people hating TO” or any other stupid comments, the guy may have the numbers but he has totaly disrupted three teams personaly with his fat mouth causing disruption in the ranks and knocking teams(qb’s) out of that crucial rythm they need to be together on one page so they could make the playoffs or win crucial games. Anybody who ever followed this idiot wherever he went saw and even forcasted this whenever it happened. I say put him in but it should be in about 8 or 10 years minimum. We have to set examples here. This was no kid out there it was a grown ass man acting like a complete prick and taking shots at his qbs so they could just throw him the ball at the right times to boost his numbers when they were loosing games anyway. I think he is a nutjob and seriously needs to be the long time study of some adolesent child head shrinker. So the answer to the idiotic question for now is a definite NO !!!!

  81. clemenza says: Mar 12, 2010 6:59 PM

watching him play that year and a half as a eagle was the most excitement i have ever seen in the 25 years as season ticket holder on offense for the birds.True Owens was a part of that all falling apart as was Mcnabb(being jealous of Owens getting all the attention) and i fault the most of all Banner and Lurie for their despicable cheapness( it was clearly a bad contract strongly slanted towards ownerships love of the dollar, after reviewing the contract the NFLPA advised Owens not to sign it but TO wanted to play for Philly and win-not doubt he thought when the eagles saw what he could do to help Philly win they would pay him…WRONG we are talking Banner and Lurie so lets not rewrite history) without a doubt the answer is YES OWENS IS A HALL OF FAMER

  82. Gunner420 says: Mar 12, 2010 7:06 PM

TO a HOF, yes, in due time. There are more respectable players that should get there dues first. With an over abundance of WR waiting to get voted in that HOF, I think TO can sit and wait for being a cancer in every team he played on.

  83. scrapdawg12 says: Mar 12, 2010 7:39 PM

He is a first ballot HOF. He had some of the best skills in the game ever, he might have been a bit rude to others at times but he is, was and always will be one of my favorite wide receivers to watch. When the Eagles signed him, I ran out and got his jersey. I still got that jersey today. I wish Andy Reid would bring him back. I’m not saying for 5 or 6 million but c’mon if the dude can’t find a team, offer him a 2 million dollar contract with incentives. Make him the 3rd or 4th receiver on this team. The guy is still damn good. He would make good TE I believe in certain situations. Not blocking obviously but passing downs mostly. Put him in the slot. I see the Eagles wasting an opportunity to make their offense super bowl caliber once again. Remember 03, that is all I will say.

Absolutely the dumbest question I have ever heard coming from this site.. This is an obvious no brainer.. T.O. may not be popular with some people but his productivity and numbers while playing in the league is undeniably a first ballot Hall of Famer..A better question is what team would he choose to go in as..
mike florio asked the question go figure. wow more cutting edge reporting..how did this geek get hired?

  86. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 12, 2010 11:44 PM

“hmmm……..arent his number comparable to irvin?”
Actually they’re better. Except for the ring thing.

  87. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 12, 2010 11:46 PM

“Cue responses of other media-unfriendly pros to make the HOF.”
“media-unfriendly” are you KIDDING? Journalistic careers were built off of TO’s sweat. Ask Florio. The media loves them some TO.

  88. peteo says: Mar 12, 2010 11:51 PM

I would rather see guys like Cliff Branch and Andre Reed get in first. as for Carter, I hope he sits and waits a long long time. he is almost as big a douche bag as TO. I know by the numbers they both deserve it and they will get in eventually, I just hope it takes a while.

  89. LiLsWISHA says: Mar 13, 2010 1:38 AM

    He deserves it. No doubt

  90. TFeist says: Mar 13, 2010 1:50 AM

I hate T. Owens as much or more then anybody on the planet, but check his numbers. He is in the neighborhood of being the second or third best WR to ever play the game, just behind Jerry Rice.
The fact that he does not own a Super Bowl ring should have anything to do with being Hall of Fame worthy. Let the career numbers speak for themselves. Owens, as big of a prick as he is, never broke any NFL rule that would ban him from the Hall, like Pete Rose did in baseball.
The above statements are just my opinion but to answer the question of ‘Should Terrell Owens be voted into the football hall of fame’, the only answer to that is “Yes”.
He put up the numbers year in and year out. He was a d#@k head year in and year out but he played within the rules of the NFL.
I hope no team picks him up this year and he is forced into retirement so I don’t have to hear about him anymore.
The only team in the NFL that has balls is the Phi. Eagles. They benched him a few years ago and would not trade him. As long as he sat on the bench, the Eagles did not pay him. More teams in all sports need to grow some balls and treat all troubled athletes in the same manner as the Eagles did with Owens.

Why is this a debate? Hate on him all you want but he’s easily a First ballot HOF. The voters can’t and won’t take into account the ‘off the field’ stuff..

  92. jerry says: Mar 13, 2010 9:04 AM

TO is just another young ignoramous who thinks he can do what ever he wants and the hell with everyone else. Takes after his leader in the white house. He is my top vote for the hall of shame

“To be in the HOF first ballot you have to have the numbers(which he has for now) and you have to be a hero out there and act like somebody instead of an arragant asshole that continually bit the hand that fed him and his psychoticly mega ego.”
So how did LT get in? Was it because he’s a deadbeat dad or was it the multiple crack busts?

  95. .VoxVeritas says: Mar 13, 2010 10:56 AM

“T.O. will eventually get into the HoF, however, he’s far from a first-ballot at this point. Did you guys forget, when Chris Carter retired”
Why are you comparing TO to Cris Carter? TO has a thousand more yards and 14 more TDs on 95 fewer catches than the guy that they used to say “only catches touchdowns”.

  96. ninerblitz says: Mar 13, 2010 12:21 PM

I would say Yes, T.O. will get into the HOF. However, I wouldn’t vote him until the year 2070. I would make sure that he doesn’t get the change to throw Johnny Unitas (or anyone else) under the bus publicly ever again.
The world is a better place when T.O. doesn’t speak to the media.
T.O. inside the chalk, “All World”.
T.O. outside the chalk, “All Muppet”.

  97. Clevelander says: Mar 13, 2010 1:16 PM

To put Terrence Owens in the Hall of Fame based on his statistics really lowers the standards. That would mean almost any player with average performance should be in the Hall of Fame. It should be something special, not automatic just because you put on a uniform. In addition, his behavior should count against him getting in, unless the NFL wants to promote grand stand players who pull out flair pens when they score a touchdown. Did Paul Warfield or Gary Collins ever pull out a flair pen when they scored?

  98. Playoffs?! says: Mar 13, 2010 2:03 PM

“That would mean almost any player with average performance should be in the Hall of Fame”
1006 rec, 14,951 yds and 144 TDs…Average performance, huh? You, sir, are an idiot.

  99. HOPALONGBOB says: Mar 13, 2010 3:17 PM

T.O. (Team Over) is unfortunately a lock for the HOF. But Owens is not nearly the same player, after he broke his finger. He developed “alligator arms” going over the middle. He’s not fearless anymore, he’s afraid of getting hit. He can’t get the separation he once could and it’s only a matter of time before the team turns into the “The T.O. Show.”
He only deserves the minimum contract, that’s laced with incentives. He’s been on so many teams, there has to be a coach, somewhere, that can deal with him…isn’t there?

  100. twinsanity says: Mar 13, 2010 3:52 PM

If he doesn’t get in, it’ll be a travesty and just expose the HOF process for the popularity contest it is among sportswriters. Denying his greatness as a player is just retarded.
As for the people who said he never came up big in the playoffs, he had one of the most memorable catches in playoff history(The Catch 2) and an amazing SB performance on what was essentially a broken leg.
As for anyone calling him a me first player, watch this clip and tell me who came out of nowhere to block downfield. He’s one of the most underrated WR blockers of all time.

As much as TO is a real a-hole at times…there is no doubt he is a HOF’er. Arguably one of the best ever to play the game.
Aside from the occasional dropped pass (which happens to all receivers), he had no real weaknesses in his game. He could go long or across the middle equally well. A very good blocker also. Able to completely take over a game in his prime.
After Jerry Rice, probably the best WR I have personally watched.

  102. TexasPsycho26 says: Mar 13, 2010 5:45 PM

Why compare Irvin to T.O.??? One guy played in 45 less games, and was basically suspended a few times, and retired 3 years earlier. If he had played as long as T.O., his numbers would be quite similar. Also Irvin played for one team his whole career instead of destroying teams…
Irvin didn’t once throw a QB under a bus, and also played with one of the most potent offenses, and one of the top 5 running backs to play the game. Aikman didn’t throw as much as Steve Young, Garcia, McNabb or Romo.
Irvin would put the Cowboys on his back when they needed the big plays. Saying he’s better than Irvin is freaking absurd. Numbers DO lie.

  103. SFrancis1680 says: Mar 14, 2010 10:13 AM

he’s a lock, definite FIRST BALLOT HOFamer, but the people who do the voting are going to make him wait several years, because they don’t like him…Packer Great, G, JERRY KRAMER is still not in the HOF…what does that say about the HOF?…JOHN RANDLE made it ahead of CHARLES HALEY, the only player who has 5SB rings…ART MONK is in the HOF, he’s better than T.O.???…i’m not sure MONK was better than his teammate GARY CLARK

  104. bigtrav425 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:35 PM

i think he is on the fence….he needs to come back and have a good yr .if he does ill say yes but NOT a def first ballot

  105. lifelongphinfan says: Mar 14, 2010 5:36 PM

although t.o. is a real douchebag his numbers warrant his entry to the h.o.f. but players like him & moss don’t deserve first ballot because of thier attitutes toward the teams & players they have played with. the type of person & player you are should have some bearing on the vote, not enough to keep out deserving players but enough to let them know that the attitudes did not go unnoticed.and when moss retires i hope the writers remember all the times this guy just out right quit on the field, to me personaly that kind of attitude is deserving of a REAL pay cut if not just cut him period,i for one would not even want a player like that on my team i dont care what he may be able to do .

“he does have a super bowl ring and is one of the best receivers of all time so yes should get in. they will probably jerk him around for a few years like they are currently to chris carter though. ”
Unless they give out rings for Super Bowl appearences……… He was drafted in ’96 after the year the 49ers won.

  108. dietrich43 says: Mar 15, 2010 8:52 AM

Why is being a jerk a reason to keep someone out? The HoF has a double-murderer in its ranks, a number of drunks, wife-beaters, and drug-users. TO may be a diva, but I don’t recall him ever getting caught with some hookers and bunch of coke in a cheap hotel room either.
But, I still say, the HoF voters are pretty clueless. Jerry Kramer still isn’t in the HoF and it took them forever to elect Art Monk. But Dan Hampton is in the HoF, and was elected recently. He was a good player, but wasn’t even the best DL on his own team.
