Pickett, Packers agree to long-term deal

The Green Bay Packers and defensive tackle Ryan Pickett have reached an agreement on a long-term contract, the team announced today.

“We have continued to talk to Ryan and his representatives and are pleased we were able to sign Ryan to this extension,” Packers GM Ted Thompson said in the team’s announcement. “He has been a key part of our success on defense, and we look forward to having Ryan be a part of our future in Green Bay.”

The Packers applied the franchise tag to Pickett last month, but both he and the team said they wanted to get a long term deal done.

The 30-year-old Pickett has played the last four seasons with the Packers after playing his first four years with the Rams.

You know how as a kid when your parents would tell you not to stare at people or not to make fun of those who are handicaped or retarded?Well that is what it is like for Packer fans, they meet people all time who try not to stare at them or laugh and make fun of them. They have gotten used to people behaving in such matter.
Funny thing is , they (the Packer fans)think people are laughing with them , they cant figure out when they are being laughed at.Packer fans are the worlds biggest collection of losers and social rejects.

And the Packer fans have the balls to make fun of the Vikes going after Tomlinson?

I was in California a few summers ago, walking down a street when I heard someone crying,I saw that person being attacked by a 5 year old girl who had one of her arms broken and she was beating the holy hell out of some guy who was about 470 lbs .I ran over to stop the attack only to have a police officer stop me and point out that the girl was not hurting this sad looking thing I am assuming was a male (ala Bob Nelson and JimmySmith)but was in fact a Packer fan.
Well I did what any decent self respecting person would do, I simply walked away while the sounds of crying lessen as I got further away.I have since seen this scene being carried out against Packer fans who stumble out of their towlet bowl they call WI.Once they are tagged and returned to the shit hole of the state of WI they rarley are seen in the the other 49 states.

Nose Tackles are very valuable as seen by the high number franchised this off season.
As a 4 year deal in an era of expanding salaries Ted Thompson again gets a great bargain.
If there is one team that has played the CBA situation perfectly it is the Green Bay Packers.
They have had the youngest team going into the uncapped year. Young players have lower salaries. They are locking up the key players into long term deals into the uncapped era. The Packers are wisely setting up the team for long term success in the uncapped era.
Ted Thompson has been brilliant in understanding the uncapped era and dealing with it in the most economical fashion.
NFL players just love Green Bay and enjoy playing there. They are a team on the rise after finishing the regular season 5th in the NFL.
Everything is looking brighter in Titletown.

Does anyone here actually watch football? If so, I’m pretty sure those people will agree that the NT is THE most important position in the 3-4 defense. Ryan Pickett was unstoppable in the run game, thus the packers ranking 1st in rushing defense. 1st, yes. 1st.
Also, Ryan Pickett is not a hoodlum so hardly anyone knows his name. So money well spent.

Especially compared to a certain purple team that has ZERO championships (but PLENTY of chokes in NFC title games!) in their illustrious FORTY EIGHT years! MrHumble
Um…did you watch Raji last year? In the second half of the season he was one of the best defensive rookies in the league. That being said, I was pretty surprised at the Pickett signing. With NT’s being at such a premium I would have explored a trade but hey, you can never have too many quality defenders.

  32. Emoney says: Mar 12, 2010 10:52 PM

Viking fans are just pissed because their overrated running back can’t run against us anymore. Pickett is a natural for the 3-4 NT position.
How is it that when you draft a future QB in the 1st round who won’t play for a year or two or three and gets paid top dollar is okay, but when you do the same thing to another position(Raji) who WILL play is considered dumb? Its never a bad thing to have extra great players who can either start or back up other great players. Don’t hate because your pathetic Williams wall is slowly falling apart. It wasn’t as good this past year as it was previous years, and will only get worse.
Viking fans will say whatever they can do get attention. They think everyone hates the packers, but I can assure you the Packer fanbase is MUCH larger than the Viking fanbase throughout the country. This is a prime example of jealousy. Its understandable. Your team has nothing to fall back on, other than two back to back division titles. Congratulations. What does that get you? Absolutely nothing! Other than lower draft picks in the following draft.
Viking fans think they’re the next dynasty. News to Viking fans! You need to WIN a super bowl first to be considered anything other than a fart in the wind.

  33. Mad Den says: Mar 12, 2010 11:09 PM

ewwww hall of famer your about as overrated as your halfback guy what you been postin here for over a year wow big achievement… i mean i don’t even know how to react i guess you are a big deal but i agree you’re definatly a shart stain you should probably go around the net and hope you can net a decent qb next year because your ailing halfback and mediocre def isn’t goin to cut it lol

  34. CaptainFantastik says: Mar 12, 2010 11:26 PM

This is rich, Vikings fans spent their time going into the off-season claiming the Packers would move backward because they “wouldn’t be able to re-sign guys like this”…..and now that they HAVE re-signed them these same Vikes fans are trying to diminsh the player by calling him “over-rated”. LOL.
Oh, and PackerHater28 reminds me of Brick Tamlan from Anchorman with his feeble barbs. “Hey where did you get those clothes…the toilet store?”.

how many TD’s did he have against your “#1 ranked defense” and how many sacks did you have against him?

Are you still going to root for the Vikings when they move to L.A? The fact that they MIGHT be moved shows how pathetic your fan base is. You know what’s funny? I bought a Vikings home playoff ticket when they got smacked down by the Eagles two years ago…FOR $30. 4 DAYS BEFORE THE GAME. Are you kidding me? They had trouble selling out a god damn playoff game. Where as the Packers home games have been sold out for what? 60 years? The only way people can get season tickets for the Packers is if about 40000 people die who were also waiting to get tickets.
Also, great part about that game I attended, where they got smacked by the Eagles. THE FANS TOLD US NOT TO STAND. The worst fans ever. The guy behind me told me that “Field goals are dumb”…..Field goals are dumb. I am not an Eagles fan, but I enjoyed driving 23 hours to watch the Eagles dominate them.
Minnesota is full of retards but I guess this site is the nest.

  40. jimmySee says: Mar 13, 2010 6:17 AM

From whom do you get more production? An over-the-hill prima dona that you sign to a rich multi-year free agent contract with big guaranteed money … or one of your own team’s major contributors who is proud that his efforts have been recognized and has decided this is where he wants to stay.
TT’s methods do not get the headlines, but they do get results.
And four years ago, Ryan Pickett was a great free agent signing.

  41. Love_Boat_Scandal says: Mar 13, 2010 6:23 AM

packerhater28 might have escaped from an institution. I keep trying to decide if he is simply insane/uneducated or insane/retarded. So hard to tell.
    Fan_of_Football:
He had to sign Clifton. He certainly did not need to sign Pickett to that kind of money and by signing him, he acknowledges that Raji wasn’t worth the pick, or even close to it. Remember Harrell? Maybe the worst 1st round choice ever.
I dream of the day (this year please) when the offensive line is improved. Imagine if he had taken a Left Tackle with that pick and we watch as that guy anchors the line for the next decade. Rodgers not getting crushed last year, would have been great. Would Lombardi’s Trophy have come home?

Losing Chester Taylor and LT’s approval must be hard on you trolls.

Trolls should go back to KFAN where they belong.

  46. Howboutdemcowboys says: Mar 13, 2010 9:45 AM

Good sign. At least they can own up to their mistakes and realize they wasted their draft pick on Raji. They decided to move forward with a true NT for the 3-4. If this was Dallas, they would be forced to start Raji and Pickett would be helping Kansas City and Romeo Crennel transition to a 3-4. Now what they need to do is shop B-Job Raji before it’s too late and all the other teams realize he stinks.

  50. zangy says: Mar 13, 2010 10:45 AM

How is this signing any indication that Raji is no good? Pickett was in St. Louis for four years and was thought to be no good and he turned out to be a great bargain. It takes time for defensive tackles to get adjusted to the pro game, it isn’t college anymore where they can just overwhelm the opposing linemen with strength. Raji had a decently productive year as a rookie, especially after fighting injury early on. Another thing, Pickett plays exclusively NT while Raji can play both NT and DE so Thompson has just assured quality depth to the BEST defensive front in football. Vikies fans are just worried because your defensive line is on the wrong side of the hill, especially when Ray Edwards leaves.
