The Bengals and safety Roy Williams have agreed to a one-year contract that will keep Williams in Cincinnati for the 2010 season.
Williams’ agent, Jordan Woy, told the Cincinnati Enquirer that the deal was agreed to on Saturday.
Earlier in the day Woy said the deal was close.
Williams played just four games for the Bengals in 2009, as a forearm injury cost him most of the season. Williams has played in just seven games the last two years.
Still, Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has been a strong advocate of signing Williams, saying the safety, when healthy, is a great fit in the Bengals’ defense.
Glad to hear it. He played well for us when he was healthy.
Make or break year for Williams. He won’t make it past the 9th game before he lands on IR. We will draft a safety this year to replace him. He is above average for a safety, just very injury prone. But then again, as hard as safety’s play, there are very few if any who make it to 7 or more years in the NFL.
woy, that was close!
Now lets sign Bobbie Williams
What’s up with his forearm? Broke it with the Cowboys, broke it again in his first game back, broke it again with the Bengals.
I hope Woy does alwight this year. He never weally got a chance wive up to his potential last wear.
Hey Don, Roy Williams is not “very injury prone”. He broke his arm in 2008 and reinjured it in 2009. A broken arm. And gee whiz, that sure is impressive specificity in predicting Roy’s demise next season. You must either have inside info of some wierd kind or be clairvoyant. Oh well, I’ll gladly take Roy Williams for 9 games.
if nothing else, totally worth it for the veteran savvy and for his ability to teach the youngsters.
as long as he doesn’t teach them how to get toasted on a TE seam.
EXCELLENT NEWS! I read that he chose not to wear the ‘guard’ on his gimpy arm when he broke it this time. He better wear it now! Now get Bobbie Williams signed and I would even take the red-headed kicker if they can work it out. Rayner’s lifetime percentage blows and he scares me a LOT! Graham couldn’t miss all those big kicks again this year….could he?
Awesome! Good signing.
SBH,
Its not just this year with those kicks. Week 17 in the 06 season he missed a 40 yarder to send the Bengals to the playoffs agaist the Steelers, then the OT game against the Eagles in 08 missed another 40somthing yarder as overtime ended. He is great the 1st three quarters but garbage with the game/season on the line. Give me a less consistant guy with big brass stones over a headcase who gets in his own head when the chips are down!!!
SBh and heavy, the Broncos game too in ’06, guy just isn’t worth paying, period.
