Javon Walker wants another chance

Veteran receiver Javon Walker recently was cut by the Raiders.  Four years since his second 1,000-yard season, Walker claims that he’s healthy and ready to play.

“The NFL is all about what have you done for me lately, and you know, I
haven’t done anything lately
,” Walker said during a recent appearance on NFL Network’s Total Access.  “But [I'm] just [looking for] somebody who’s going to dig down deep and say, ‘Let’s
take a look and see what this kid can do.’”

The “kid” truly hasn’t done anything lately.  And at 31, he’s not a kid anymore, either.

The former Florida State Seminole started slowly in 2002 and 2003 with the Packers, but he broke out in 2004 with a career-best 89 receptions for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.  He then spent much of the 2005 offseason pushing for a new contract, but he abandoned a threatened holdout after quarterback Brett Favre basically warned him not to do it — and then Walker tore his ACL during the first game of the regular season.

The next year, his first in Denver, was solid.  But since the night that cornerback Darrent Williams died in Walker’s arms after being shot by the recently-convicted Willie Clark, Walker has never been the same.

His best bet, in our view, will be a one-year deal for the veteran minimum with a team that needs help at the position but doesn’t want to spend much money.

In other words, he’ll sign with the Buccaneers or the Bengals.

Why not DC? Shanny might give him a 80-man roster spot chance.

  2. IAVikefan says: Mar 13, 2010 7:54 PM

Agreed… however, being 32 years old, i must disagree with you dissing him for being 31… us early 30-somethings aren’t THAT old….

i have always been and will probably always will be a walker fan,i think if he is given a chance and if he can check his inflated ego,he might just be able to help a team like the ravens or jets,he was brandon marshall before brandon marshall, big, great hands, real quick,if he were in good shape,i would like to see him in a ravens jersey[for league minimum that is],why not take a flier on an uncapped year

The whole “look at me…I’m a gangsta” is no longer sexy, in the NFL or the NBA. Guys like this jerk (as well as Allen Iverson) should just go away. The whole world is better off without them.

…Yeah, the St.Louis Rams DEEEEFinitely don’t fit that discription. (eyes rolling)

He’s still better than most of the sh** Miami calls receivers.

  7. VoxVagina says: Mar 13, 2010 8:14 PM

The Bengals are pretty solid at WR now with Bryant. They have 2 good starters and Caldwell in the slot

  8. FumbleNuts says: Mar 13, 2010 8:15 PM

Maybe the Patriots will give the dude a chance?

  9. dogma1 says: Mar 13, 2010 8:35 PM

he hasn’t done anything since like 2005.

  10. WishaMaFucWould says: Mar 13, 2010 8:37 PM

C’mon now LaVikefan, if u know the NFL that’s old

Those of you thinking that he’d even be worth bringing into camp must not watch much football. The Raiders put him on ice because he can’t get open anymore. He was done 2 years ago when he tried to retire, and more injuries have only robbed him of of what little ability he had left to separate at the pro level. Truly one of the worst free agent signings ever.

Bucs, Rams, Titans, Dolphins, Panthers, Browns, Buffalo, 49ers…for the veteran minimum, he could pay off as a #2 for any of these teams or on some of these teams, in an absolute best-case scenario, as a #1. Worst-case, he’s making peanuts and still probably better than whatever detritus they march out behind their respective #1s. I’d give him a shot.

So, IAVikefan, are you still playing professional football? I didn’t think so. For some career choices, 32 is very young. Not football, and especially not WR.

What about the Redskins? The Seahawks? The Patriots?

  15. DieHardSkinsFan21 says: Mar 13, 2010 9:28 PM

He will probably be a cowgurl.

  16. cover2blitz0 says: Mar 13, 2010 9:29 PM

why dont some team sign him and give him a chance… if nothing else bring him in and get him checked out mentally im sure he could use it after all hes been through and maybe its a reason for his declined play

  17. favres_right_tendon says: Mar 13, 2010 9:44 PM

Bring in Javon to DC for mini-camps and see what he can do. Better then 80% of the receivers we have there now. Lets see if he is mentally over the death of his best friend and if his body has recovered. At a vet minimum can’t hurt.

Cleveland is thin at that spot.

go back to vegas and waste your time spraying people w $15,000 in champagne there javon. good riddance for the sh*t you pulled on the packers in 2005.

He already received a 2nd chance. After D. Williams died in his arms after he “made it rain” with Champagne at a club in Denver……..
He went to Las Vegas and did the same thing…..and almost got himself killed.
This guy doesn’t learn and doesn’t deserve the NFL.

  21. wyobroncoboy says: Mar 14, 2010 12:18 AM

I can’t understand why the NFL netwotk even had him on.
    He blew it Denver.
If you can’t hangon in The Black Hole………………….. well thats just sad.
    Bubye?

Macully Culkin has a better chance of reviving his career. Javon Walker has done nothing in years. He has proven that he cannot make decisions that benefit himself or anyone. Second chance? He’s had plenty more than that.

  23. D Hawk says: Mar 14, 2010 1:19 AM

I thought the Raiders were the endgame of last chances? If a former star can’t cut it there, where can he go, really? But if the Seahawks signed him to an incentive-laden contract I wouldn’t complain.

  24. SmackMyVickUp.com says: Mar 14, 2010 1:21 AM

Remember when he got beatdown in here in Vegas, took him a few days to get his story straight.
Idiot started out saying he was kidnapped in his hotel room at the Bellagio when he answered the door. Right….Watch Oceans 11 kiddo, cameras everywhere.
Ended up changing his story 3 or 4 times and eventually told the story he was picked up off street and got his butt kicked and robbed.
Don’t think anyone was ever caught due to his poor cooperation with authorities. Was tied to him making it rain at the Palms, I think, guys followed him, offered him a ride and punked him.

  25. UCHuskies08 says: Mar 14, 2010 4:43 AM

Jesus, Javon Walker is 31 years old already? I’m getting old.

  26. He Hate Me says: Mar 14, 2010 9:58 AM

He only wants to win a championship so he can pour champagne on somebody’s head.

  27. whelbuc says: Mar 14, 2010 10:45 AM

He would be good for the BUCS

  28. Big Tex says: Mar 14, 2010 11:49 AM

Wait a minute. Did I see a Skins fan talking smack about the Cowboys? What are the odds? I would think that with the failure of Randle El, Devin Thomas, and Malcolm Kelly to do anything of merit in DC, that Little Danny might be in the market for another WR. I guess Larry Johnson fills the Skins’ quota of old, broken down, used up FA’s.

  29. donkssuk says: Mar 14, 2010 1:40 PM

we should send florio to vegas to meet those guys! C U Next Tuesday.

  30. donkssuk says: Mar 14, 2010 2:16 PM

walker is a 32 year old with 80year old parts in his knees! I think Al gave him body parts for that unauthorized surgery last offseason. perfect for the seahawks though!

  31. PervySharstainharvin says: Mar 14, 2010 7:43 PM

  32. 2Legit says: Mar 14, 2010 10:33 PM

Yeah its prob a good idea that packers stay away from walker..they are only interested in rejected WNBA players…
