When the Cincinnati Bengals signed free agent wide receiver Antonio Bryant, it seemed clear that they would no longer pursue free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens.
But Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer still thinks they should.
“It’s obviously a long-shot but I see no reason not to continue to pursue T.O.,” Palmer told Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer on Friday, after Bryant’s signing became official.
Even if Palmer can’t see them, there are some rather obvious reasons not to continue to pursue Owens. Such as the Bengals not wanting to commit any more money to wide receivers after signing Bryant to a four-year, $28 million deal. And the fact that with only one football to spread around among Bryant, Owens and Chad Ochocinco, Palmer would have some unhappy wide receivers in the huddle with him.
Then again, Ochocinco has insisted that he wants to share the football with Owens. So maybe Palmer’s comments are in part an attempt to placate Ochocinco. And Reedy reports that “there still remains a very small chance” of Owens ending up with the Bengals.
It’s such a small chance that it’s hard to see it from here. But if Palmer is pushing it, perhaps the door isn’t completely shut.
They should sign him to a 1 year deal and go from there.
One year and with the new “D” + Ced = Championship.
Plus BigBen is only helping us out!
I would like to see this happen just to see Ochocinco, Bryant, and T.O.’s egos clash.
I never thought it possible that Antonio Bryant could possibly be the #3 diva on a team’s WR corps. With Ocho and possibly Owens, Bryant seems like a model citizen!
Bryant at flanker, Owens at Split End, and Chad in the slot would be unstoppable. Just sign T.O. to a one year deal.
I think time itself would fracture with Ocho and TO sharing the same locker room.
T.O.’s only viable destination is the Raiders. He can’t possibly screw that organization up any more than it is. Plus, it’s a win win for him because he’s already got a built in excuse for failure in the ineptitude at the QB position.
they should offer him a mimimum contract with incentives. If he makes the bonuses, he earned it. everyone wins. they have plenty of dead weight receivers they could dump to make room for him.
Headaches aside having those three guys lined up together would be a pretty formidable trio. Plus you throw in Ced Benson and how do you defend on defense. You could make your 3rd tackle your fulltime tightend and defenses would still have to respect the pass every down. While it is highly unlikly it sure as hell would be entertaining to watch!!
he would start over bryant for sure
2 year 5mill with a 1-2 mill bonus sounds good for TO
I think that adding T.O. for one year is a great idea! I don’t think any of those 3 guys are so young and immature to be crying for more catches at this point in their careers. They catch a few balls, and the team wins and they are all happy to be a part of it, is what I would expect. The Saints and Cardinals had 4 receivers, all capable of changing a game and in different weeks, they all did. I would LOVE to see Chad, Antonio and T.O. in the same offense. Caldwell would have to accept a smaller role for one more year, and Simpson can take one more year to mature too. Go Bengals!
for a guy with his size speed, and skill,i dont see how they valued bryany over him in the first place, when is the last time he actually played in at least 10 or more games in a season, unlike TO who never really misses a game and can come down with the ball thru double coverage anytime,as a ravens fn,gotta say im damn glad he didnt go to cinncy, thank you bengal org,and after bryant gets hurt in week 6 and they are down to just ocho AGAIN all the fans[and ocho] will be saying “toldya so”
I want T.O. bad .. But I’m sure this would cause us to cut or limit some of the players we are supposed to be trying to “develop”… It’s good short term but hurts us long term..
Maybe the Bengals sign TO after his value reaches rock bottom. I hope he goes there, it’d be entertaining.
It would be a battle of celebatory dances in the endzone.
Offer him to play for popcorn….1 year only
Honestly, it wouldn’t matter if we (Bengals fan here) signed Brandon Marshall, T.O., Bryant, and Mike Ditka (SNL pun inteded) there will be no offensive success for this team until:
1)Bratkowski is gone. Period. No “new” redesigned playbooks, just gone.
2) Carson learns how to complete passes to open receivers again.
The focus should be on fixing what’s in front of them not piling more distractions on top of it.
