We noted in today’s one-liners that a marketing study conducted recently found that some San Francisco 49ers tickets were far too cheap.
The 49ers are changing that, with some tickets more than tripling in price.
The San Jose Mercury News reports that some tickets previously known as field-box seats are going way, way up in price. The 49ers justify the increase by noting that while the seats are in the same place in the stadium, starting in 2010 they will offer a pre-game field pass, food and drinks, premier parking and seat cushions.
Some fans wish they had the option of paying the old price without all the amenities.
“In this economy, I don’t know what they’re thinking,” said San Jose resident Jon Olson, whose invoice for seven seats and parking jumped from $5,475 to $19,039. “It seems like they’re just irrevocably out of touch with their fan base.”
Olson said he’s canceling his tickets after 15 years. But unless a lot of other season-ticket holders follow his lead, those prices won’t be going down.
In other news, the Bucs owners, the Glazers, didn’t raise any ticket prices and lowered some. Not to mention, they bought the rest of last years unsold tickets so the bucs weren’t blacked out.
Thanks Glazers

They want fans to pay more to see a shitty product at a shitty stadium. They prove that with the “amenities”. Premier parking is just closer to the facility but is still dirt\gravel. The seat cushion is due to the shitty facility. Or due to the fact that most fans are homos and need them.
It may seem rather obvious , but the fans are in control of all sports that ticket sales and attendance affect. Don’t like it don’t go. nuff said
WOW!!!! i guess if ya cant produce wins why not give ur fans field passes, just me but i think i would still rather have a couple winning seasons or a playoff berth to show for my 20,000 dollar season ticket, call me crazy,,so whats that like $2500 a win last year, not in a million years, dont care if montana and rice cawillis and me back to play with willis and singletary,CRAZY!!!!
I live in wisconsin, have never been to packer game, but still, I have to say
thats some BULLLLSHHIIIIIIITTTTTT.
Looks look some fans need a new team. May I suggest the Raiders.
Almost 4 times as much?!?!?! I would tell them to stick their tickets up their a$$ too.
Wow. I’m going to weep for the guy who can no longer afford SEVEN TICKETS to a football game.
This damn economy.

I wish they would stop doing that.
Forcing the Tampa area to air the Bucs games is painful to those of us who are football fans and live in the Tampa area.
Thanks Glazers. Ya cocks.
@ alphacans
I agree… I chose to stop attending games years ago; I’d rather not waste my time and money! So I choose to save my cash and get wrecked at home on Sundays watching multiple football games, all day long.
This is exactly why our family cancelled our season tickets after 37 years two seasons ago. This team has no ties to the old regime — they’re unrecognizable now. The pervasive feeling in the bay area right now is that people have lost their passion for this team. There’s no one involved worth rooting for — owner, coach, quarterback…. It all sucks.
Niners, you’re dead to me.
Seat cushions? They are actually using seat cushions as a selling point? Yeah, this justifies such a dramatic increase. Brilliant marketing strategy…
the stick need to be blown up..
For that much of an increase, the least they could do is put some fake fur around the glory holes in the men’s room stalls.
I would never pay over 2500 a seat, even if it included a seat cushion (!) and parking. Especially since the 49ers suck out loud since Jeff Garcia was chased out of town by T.O.
lol,
Bye Bye 49ers. Raising the tickets for a cruddy team and a dump of a stadium?
L.A. 49ers ………………..
HAHAHAHA!!!
Good Riddence Fruits….
49 Queers 6-10 in 2010.
considering that i paid seventy bucks for eleventh row fifty yard line for vikings/niners two years ago, i would say they could hike the tickets a little.
of course, like people have said, shitty product in a shitty stadium…although i would probably still rather see a game at candlestick (or whatever its called these days) then the metrodome.
One of the shocks I had when moving to the Bay Area was the lack of range in tiered pricing for the seats @ the Stick; nosebleeds were more expensive than the other NFL cities I had lived in or near (Buffalo, NYC, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville) but the premium seats were much cheaper. Now they are bringing their prices more in line with the rest of the league and the citizens of the West Bay Socialist Republic are getting their panties in a wad.
think that’s bad? just watch what the ny giants games will cost inc. seat license scam this year. and the owners off a year of the worst defense in the past 50 years of giants football let their best and highest paid linebacker go, let veteran robbins depart signing only a safety – watch how the biggest ripoff of all plays out in the city that did NOT need a new stadium.
Not all of us season ticket holders are unhappy. I’ve had mine 30 years and sit on the 20. My tickets went from $71 to $59/game. Such a deal. Sign me up for my 31st season.
Listen to the FAITHFUL.
We have been late on our mortgage last year, stop going out for dinner, took off our landline at home and use cell phone only, sacrificed other needs to save money to renew our four season tickets. We are true fans but this ownership is NOT a true 9er fans, these are bunch of money hungry business people. We are paying top dollars for a shitty product for years now.
Let’s use FAN POWER and watch out 52″ TV at home

Are you talking about the 49ers, ..or the Cowboys?
That’s $340 per seat per game. That’s even worse than what Snyder charges his Redskins fans.
Migawd!! Don’t give Danny any ideas!
Niners fan Olson is going to cancel his season tickets? The Niners say, “Who cares, there are 20 people in line behind you ready to snap them up!”
One of our fans here said “the fans are in control of all sports.” Don’t make me laugh. The demand WAY outstrips the supply, which is why we’re all just tools. We’ll watch what they tell us to watch, when they tell us to watch it, and pay whatever they charge.
I guess thats what happens when for the last 10 years you keep telling everyone your going to the playoffs and dont! The rewards of an 8-8 season in THE WORST division in football is raised ticket prices in THE WORST stadium in football…
NICE JOB WHINERS!
The pervasive feeling across the country must be that California is full of fair-weather fans (minus Raiders fans, and no one would blame them for jumping ship).
I’ve been a 49er fan since my earliest memories and endured the crap seasons since 2003. I’m very optimistic about the direction the team is going with Jed York, Scot McLoughan, Mike Singletary, and Alex Smith.
If you’ve paid enough attention and knew enough about how to do things in the NFL, you’d see that the organization is doing things differently (the right way) and headed in the right direction.
If you’re not enough of a fan to stay on board with your team, then you have no grounds to bitch about anything.
They are still trying to live off of Eddie’s stumbling into hiring Bill Walsh.
This is a franchise that didn’t win a title in their first 35 years of existence. Couldn’t sell out their stadium to sell their lives. Then Eddie, after first hiring Joe Thomas [what a disaster that was] had to be talked into hiring Bil Walsh.
This looks like a team that is trying to alienate it’s fan base so it can set up a move to Ed Roski’s new stadium in SoCal. At which point it can get a much more lucrative price when it is put up for sale.
Laffing Stock-
I love people like you. You claim to be a long-time fan, and after a few tough years, you say, “Niners, you’re dead to me.”
You’re a joke, you were never a fan, and never will be one. I’m glad you’re gone and hope you stay that way, no team needs fair-weather fans like your pathetic ass.
@tacious and alphacans:
I’m with you. Watching Red Zone channel on my 50IN HDTV, sitting on my comfortable couch, enjoying drinks that don’t cost $10 a pop, peeing in a real toilet and not a trough, NOT paying ridiculous amounts for parking and wasting time sitting in traffic before and after the game. Watching at home is a helluva lot better than going to a game.
Don’t be silly. I’ve been assured that only Jerry Jones charges too much for tickets.
@ East Bay Ray
Amen Brother!
can’t wait for the Comissioner to weigh in on WHY some of these teams are having trouble selling out home games…maybe the Yorks are trying to make up for losing a home game [playing Broncos in London]…what happened to the concept of the overseas game being done on a rotating basis? …Niners played a game against Arizona in 2005 in Mexico, didn’t realize every other team played an overseas game since then.
@hayward giapunchmi
I’ve never been to a game in Dallas so I can only speak to what I’ve seen and known to happen at a S.F. game. You let me know if they relate the same since you’ve been to both by your post. I’m still shell-shocked (hypen may not be needed) by some of the “displays of affection” I’ve seen at Candlestick, 3-Com, whatever….I’ll never be the same again.
People wonder why some use the parking lot as a venue to urinate until the’ve been to a San Francisco bathroom.
Fans must pay! The owner has gone out and got Dave Carr a #1 draft pick so they should be happy to pay 3 or 4 times as much to watch this exciting passing team. Plus watching many sacks as Carr attempts to avoid them also is exciting.
I’d be embarrassed if the Browns offered fans seat cushions. Haha San Fran fags.
Also, I always thought the 49ers were a well run franchise….what happened?
“You know when people have never been to SF when all they can talk about is the “homos”
Well too fricking bad, the city has embraced homos like no other segment of the population and has made a big deal out of it and has engineered it’s image as the homo capitol of the western hemisphere. Only in SF could two guys slam each other in the butt on a street corner in full view of children AND cops and suffer no consequences but don’t you dare spit on the sidewalk or let your dog take a shit in a gutter, a concerned citizen will call 911 on you and if you happen to be near one of the “Save the Rainforests” protests when you do it, they’ll beat you with cardboard signs that are attached to wooden pickets because THAT’S HOW STUPID THEY ARE.
Say, remember back in the late 90′s when a guy named Jack Davis was point man for the 49ers’ stadium campaign and had a birthday party complete with “performance art” by a band called the “United Satanic Apache Front” that included a woman dressed as an indian, carving a pentagram into a man’s back before urinating all over him, then sodomizing him with a Jack Daniels bottle? Then gathering as much blood and piss and assified Jack Daniels into a bowl and making him drink it. Then everyone in the group shared a drink from that assified bottle.
That qualifies as “art” to you hopeless cretins.
There’s plenty more to talk about, like the corrupt Chicago-style politics and the idiot ultra-liberals and other various Pelosi lovers. We can talk about the 49ers you want, I know a lot about them. I’ve got stories ranging from campaign contribution laundering to Eddie’s payment of a big settlement to a maid named Gina Baross because he raped with a mop handle. Bottom line is that San Francisco is a JOKE, a perverted parody of a respectable city, and the 49ers suck ass.
“Your ignorance and incompetence would get you killed in SF”
What’s up, somebody will ass-rape you and give you AIDS? Your remarks prove that you are teh ghey.
I don’t know GoBrowns19 but I’ll take 1 David Carr over Seneca Wallace and Jake “Quinterceptions” Delhomme any day. I’d be embarassed if I were a Browns fan.
raidresnation – Awesome username. Just awesome.
RaiderRob – I’m not going to insult you – I just feel bad that your line of attack was saying that the Niners would finish 6-10 this year… it’s sad because the raiders can’t even get to 6 wins
RaiderhateR4Life(Rectum Boy)
Been there many times. It is always nice to grown man crapping in the alley.
Its great to see the way the City takes care of its people. I love how the homeless respect the tourist.
That is always good for vistors.
Do not use the toliet in Frisco, you may find it very gross.
Raiderhater4life, you must be Gavin’s little shine boy.
Now go home and polish your Gavie picture.
Frisco is a toliet.
Candledump should be turned into a shelter for the crapheads.
Frisco is the fruit capital of the country, even your Mayor knows that.
Oakland is completely different than Frisco.
It’s so shocking that such hateful homophobic bigotry would come from a fan of a team based in Texas. Really shocking.
(Am I the only one that wishes the South had won the Civil War and actually was it’s own stupid country, including a big chunk of the Midwest and a couple that actually were in the Union?)
Vox gets post of the century……
Raiderhaterlovesrectums,
Dont forget all the “Pride’ parades, where men sodomize each other in front of people.
Nancy Pelosi is a native Friscan.
It’s so shocking that such hateful homophobic bigotry would come from a fan of a team based in Texas. Really shocking.
Oakland hates them too.
This post is crazy. I’ll stand by my original post (because I refuse to sit near anything S.F. related) and claim that it’s outrageous to raise prices for a shitty product! How are some of you going to react when you share a stadium with the Raiders? Even though one of you is the pitcher and the other the catcher, it’s football, not homoball, I mean baseball. Oakland and San Francisco are not what they lead people to believe. It’s worse.
Homos? In Frisco? How come everybody doesn’t know about this?
Wow, what a bunch of homophobes. I’ve been to the Bay Area and there’s a lot more there than “homos” and “fags” and I think that most of the people who are torching SF have never been there. Hell, I find it funny to see a few Texas people going after them when people talk about Texas as being “the land of steers and queers.” I bet you hate that as much as the people in SF hate being categorized by one group of people.
Oh and before you try to go after me — not gay or homo or a fag; I just happen to think that you guys are goofy.
If San Francisco is such a bad city…why does everyone move out here?
And for Oakland. Oh Oakland. How useless and irrelevant. Our trash moves to your city. When they actually show Raider games on TV…they show the sights of San Francisco on the tube. When teams come and play the Raiders…they stay in SF. They raise the tickets of the 49ers ten times and we will still out draw the Silver & Black.
How many blackouts?
How many empty seats?
San Francisco – World Class City
Oakland – ?????
FYI – Nancy Pelosi is a native of Baltimore. She grew up there for 29 years.
Thank you City_native and Edgy1957, glad to see there’s others on this site with common sense. Raidernation- stop commenting on SF sites with all your childish negativity. And Vox-…. Well actually I’ll just laugh at your stupidity and arrogance. Not a surprise how the 2 idiots on this blog are a raider fan and a cowgirl fan.
