Browns trade Brady Quinn to Denver

Brady Quinn is on the way to Denver.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that Quinn was just traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Denver Broncos in exchange for running back Peyton Hillis and two conditional draft picks.

We’ve known since the Browns acquired quarterbacks Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme that Quinn was on the way out, and now we know that he’s gone.

The question now is whether he’ll be the starter in Denver. The Broncos’ starter last season, Kyle Orton, is a restricted free agent who got a first-round tender.

AAAnnndd let the looking over your shoulder begin Mr Orton. Quinn is good and this system is a perfect fit for his talents.

  8. fmax4 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:15 PM

The Brownies are going with a guy once removed from the worst year ever and a backup that must have a secret on Holmgren. Delhomme and Wallace? really?

  9. WilsonFisk says: Mar 14, 2010 5:15 PM

So can we crown Cleveland the off season champs yet?
Hillis fits the EXACT mold of what a westcoast FB should be.
Quinn clearly had no place left in Cleveland..Holmgren should a get a lot of credit for getting something in return.

    - Derek Anderson
    - Jay Cutler
The list goes on and on, about over-hyped quarterbacks in this league and not one of them has ever won a playoff game, yet all “YOU” people talk trash about Mike Vick.
At least he has multiple Pro Bowls, finished 2nd in the MVP and taken his team to the championship game.
This breed of slow, one dimensional white quarterbacks is about to come to an end, just like the NBA’s old style of play.

  20. dybzinski says: Mar 14, 2010 5:19 PM

Everyone bashing Quinn as awful while on the Browns, yet now speculation that he’ll be the starter in Denver??? Seems like people like to bash player just because they’re on the Browns.

  24. Lex mcNasty says: Mar 14, 2010 5:21 PM

With the money remaining on his contract i don’t think he’s gonna ride the bench for a long time… If kyle sucks or gets injured in preseason or early games get ready for quinny!
    Damn…

  25. TheRedBengal says: Mar 14, 2010 5:21 PM

That’s crazy. Those draft picks better be a sixth and seventh, otherwise the broncs hosed themselves.

  27. Jabroni says: Mar 14, 2010 5:23 PM

  28. BOSSMAN23 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:23 PM

I know it seems like everybody hates on Quinn on these comments, but I really like this move for the Broncos. Quinn is a young QB with alot of upside, who needs to be given a chance. Not really sure if he’ll get that chance in Denver with Kyle Orton in the fold. Do they know explore deals for Orton? Is Quinn some kind of insurance policy, or a solid backup? What the hell is Cleveland going to do next year?

  32. EG says: Mar 14, 2010 5:23 PM

    Hillis is a solid pick-up

  33. ArtModellsPimp says: Mar 14, 2010 5:24 PM

    Or not.
Maybe the thin air will help him pass farther that 10 yards…

  34. kurtismantronik says: Mar 14, 2010 5:25 PM

Denver will make Quinn their golden boy project. He’ll be the backup to Kyle Orton. Not the worst position to be in.
If McDaniels can’t straighten his game out though, safe to assume he’s hopeless as a QB.

  35. bigtrav425 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:26 PM

That also means no RB will be drafted more then likely and possibly stock piling picks for a trade on draft day anddddddddd a QB will be drafted unless we get Kolb from philly

What a waste of talent and a high draft pick. Phil Savage should be thanked for that great move.
Never got a chance 12 starts and a terrible coach in fatass Crennell, 3 different offensive coordinators that all were terrible including ding dong Daboll. I hope he does well.

  42. shadowGM says: Mar 14, 2010 5:28 PM

I stand corrected. I said before there was no interest, but this is a big move. McDaniels may get somethinig more out of Quinn yet.
Hillis is a great trade on Cleveland’s end as well. Looks like Mike may like the look of Hillis and Harrison in the I formation.

  48. CT Pats Fan says: Mar 14, 2010 5:30 PM

More to the point – they traded Quinn to Josh McDaniels. The same man that created a system that allowed Matt Cassel to go from “never started a game since high school” to 11-5 with the Patriots.

  49. NightTrainNeckTie says: Mar 14, 2010 5:32 PM

    Nope

  50. JD9493 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:32 PM

  51. aschwartz says: Mar 14, 2010 5:33 PM

Depending on the picks that could be a great trade for Denver. Quinn never had a chance in Cleveland…I wonder if McDaniels gave his old buddy Charlie a call to find out some info on Quinn…

  52. JP says: Mar 14, 2010 5:33 PM

Interesting. I would still guess Orton is the starter as of now, though Quinn would likely be given the opportunity to steal it away from him based on performance.

  53. Larry David says: Mar 14, 2010 5:33 PM

Quinn will be good in Josh Mcdaniels system. He coulda been good in Mike Holmgren’s west coast system if given the chance. Isn’t the west coast based on short quick throws? Isn’t that what Quinn does best? Another dumb move by the Browns.

  54. JD9493 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:34 PM

    I like the trade myself.
I’m a Jets fan, and I particularly, like the trade.

OH MY GOD. Holmgren is making a MESS of the Browns. He is past his prime. We will see this year. They will be lucky to win 5 games…then again he will blame it on Man(lack of)genius. Holmgren will coach in 2011 and win 3. Lerner wasted his g**d*** money on this fat piece of crap. He ain’t no MikeTannenbaum or Rex Ryan.

  67. TheWizard says: Mar 14, 2010 5:48 PM

This is good. Gets some heat on Orton.
I assume Josh thinks Quinn will be ok in the long term.
Cleveland and teams like that have ruined a lot of good football players.
Look at Matt Cassel, a year driving the New England Caddilac vs a year heading up a bad Chiefs squad.
    Day and night.

  68. CityByTheLake19 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:49 PM

Peyton Hillis is a great addition, but there is no way he is taking over lawrence vickers position. Lawrence Vickers is a monster in the blocking game! Another great move by the Moustache Mike Holmgren and Heckert….. Browns are looking more and more like a contender and not a pretender

  69. sunflower100 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:49 PM

Bashing Quinn has nothing to do with the Browns. Last year he was awful inspite of their wins at the end of the year. They won inspite of him. The Bills, Raiders, Rams, and Browns all had bad QB play. It’s possible that he has a better year in Denver away from the mess that is the Browns, but he definately hasn’t developed so far.

  70. brownsfan1929 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:49 PM

I am just glad they got rid of this bum, yeah we didnt pick up anyone great, but we werent really going to be this year no matter what, and now they can draft a new young qb that actually has some talent and build him up.

  71. bcbiz88 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:50 PM

  72. azwildcats96 says: Mar 14, 2010 5:51 PM

oops i said rex, i guess i could care less about the afc west

  74. dybzinski says: Mar 14, 2010 5:54 PM

Considering people were saying there was no market, this looks pretty good for Cleveland. Fringe player or not, TWO picks (assuming to be late 2010) is fine at this point.
For those that asked, a conditional pick means the round could improve depending on performance. If Quinn does X, pick improves a bit. If Denver gives anything more than a 4 and 6 and Hillis, they are high on that mountain air (which come to think of it, could improve Brady “7 yard arm limit” Quinn’s distance!

  75. dawgfan says: Mar 14, 2010 5:55 PM

Hahahaha! thanks for the humor! So I guess Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Philip Rivers and so on are a part of the breed on the way out?? Mike Vick was the most over-hyped player ever…true he had skill and he got to an NFC championship game..so what! Delhomme got to 2 NFC championship games and a super bowl, in the same period of time…so by your pathetic racist standards Delhomme is not only a better QB then Vick but a member of a superior race!! hahahahaha!!!

Oh yeah, the best QBs in football are STILL those guys. Do not play the race card on a style of play. The fact is that is Michael Vick was as good as Peyton Manning and played like Peyton Manning… he’d be… Peyton Manning.

This is a good move for all concerned. Like Anderson, Quinn may or may not be an NFL QB but he just wasn’t develop into one in Cleveland. Same thing happened with Cedric Benson in Chicago. The Bears were right to get rid of him and Bengals were right to sign him. Even if Quinn makes it to the HOF the Browns were right to get rid of him. He wasn’t going to go anywhere with the kind of pressure he was under in Cleveland.

  83. SFrancis1680 says: Mar 14, 2010 6:58 PM

Holmgren couldn’t get him out of town quick enough, only to replace him w/Delhomme??? …we’ll see IF McDaniels is as smart as he thinks he is, no reason he can’t coach Quinn up to be as productive, if not more so, than Matt Cassel

If BQ can stay away from Brokeback Mtn. and get his head straight, he could still salvage a career. Orton is not the long term answer.

I find it fascinating that Anderson played well in 2007, back when the Browns actually had some offensive weapons. Funny how that works, huh?
I wouldn’t mind seeing Anderson in a Steelers uniform in 2010.

“Just like Braylon… another team overpaid for our trash.”
Browns paid a first round pick (4th overall) to get Braylon in the first place, and he didn’t do jack sh*t. Browns are the kings of high-risk, low-reward transactions. Sh*t rolls downhill when there’s nothing but sh*t at the top of the pile.
Now please try not to f*ck up Hillis’s career, too.
