You do realize that the Cowboys structured contracts specifically with the uncapped year in mind. Take a minute and think about why they would do that and what benefit that might have in the upcoming capped years….

Bender, if the cap goes away forever, this can turn out to be a real good move. I, however, believe that the cap will be back with the next CBA. If that happens, how will all of these teams that are over whatever the cap is set at get back down. They will have to start cutting players wholesale, which will hurt their respective teams. I don’t think these values mean too much right now.

I look at the Bills salary cap. This is a joke that not one player has any interest in coming to this team. If I where Ralph Wilson I would be embarressed. This team can’t even get a second or third rate player to come here. THIS TEAM SUCKS I wish they would move and save the fans thier hard earn money.

Not big fans of the Cards and Bengels but one could argue that they are the smartest of the bunch. Seams like they are in the playoff hunt the last 3-5 years. Tho, I dont think thier owners are as smart as Florio’s list makes them out to be, value for dollar wise. It’s a bit suprising how bad the Skins, Bears and Raiders are verses there dollar amount.

The Bengals have 5 or 6 RFA tenders still left to be signed plus all if these teams will have draft picks that will have contracts. When it’s all said and done Cincy should be around $125 million.

The Bengals’ cap figure includes Tank Williams and all RFA & EFA tenders (regardless if they’ve been signed or not). After you add Antonio Bryant (~$7M) and Roy Williams (probably $900k), the team cap is still less than $93M (“Top 51″) with 62 players on the roster.
Either way I wouldn’t call the team cheap – just conservative with their cap. They’ve proven a willingness to sign expensive free agents (Coles, Bryant, Odom) and pay top dollar for their own players’ extensions (Palmer, Peko, Whitworth).
Some of the other teams are a joke with their bloated caps, low roster size and lack of quality. The Raiders being the worst example, but Washington isn’t too far behind.

Curious if Jacksonville’s includes Aaron Kampman’s contract. I also wonder what you think these teams should go out and do? Jacksonville, for example, went out and got Kampman. Who else is out there? They’re only superstar player is already locked up for the long haul. They may re-do Mike Sims-Walker’s deal and that will increase this year’s figure.
But why pay big $$ for replacement-level players that can be had in the draft?
Plus, they’re already facing giving a pile of guaranteed money at their 1st round pick on top of whatever they’ve spent. a

How up to date are these numbers? Do they include signings within the last few days? Do they include salaries dumped within the past few days? And isn’t it a bit premature to draw conclusions from these numbers, since rosters are currently in flux,free agency proceeds apace,rookie draft pools are yet to be determined,etc. etc. etc. aren’t these numbers little more than snapshots from a running tally?

I’m curious as to if the RFA tenders are taken into account. In Cincinnati’s case they have about 10 Million out in RFA tenders and they’ve just finalized deals for Antonio Bryant and Roy Williams. The fact that they maxed out their cap room in ’09 makes me think those figures aren’t included and that Cincy isn’t as cheap at most make them out to be. Those numbers would put them over the 100 million mark which is about leage average at this point; too bad we don’t have an owner like Jerry Jones (153 mill is ridiculous).

Teams always assume around 12 million or so for draft picks, so some of these numbers will look more respectable. In the case of the bengals, they are still working on some higher value free agents (shayne graham and bobbie williams)
