Arena Football teams opening camp

It’s been five long weeks since the Super Bowl.  The Olympics have helped fill the early stages of the barren void between early February and September 9, and the Scouting Combine and free agency have provided a welcome distraction.

But football is now back, sort of.

AFL teams are opening training camp, with an eye toward a schedule that launches on April 2, when Chicago faces Iowa and Milwaukee travels to Spokane.

It’s not the NFL, but it’s football — and games will be televised on NFL Network.

So welcome back, AFL.  Now go get your shine box.

The players are obviously noticing the arrogance of the NFLPA and see an opportunity to tune thier games a little before the lockout. Good, bring in the AFL and UFL players. At least they’d be greatful for their chance.

I’d rather watch replays of the ’91 NFC championship game than Arena football.

i can’t wait for the naysayers to start on how this isnt football
half of these kids weren’t even born with Arena was introduced to us
This league has been around forever. And if you havent been to one of these high-octane fueled games, i suggest you do so

They should make the playing field a giant trampoline similar to what was done with basketball a few years ago, I can’t remember what the league was called but it was pretty entertaining.

I have, and I was gone by halftime. It was a real nail biter. 61-60. I couldn’t handle the excitement
    /sarcasm off
Please. Its half of an NFL game with no defense. I was born in 1971, and it’s still not football. Now you know.

convincing people that Arena football is “Football” is like trying to convince people that indoor soccer is like the World Cup.

is this the original AFL teams and the AFL2 merged?
    Wheres Bon Jovi?

i would bet florio’s hair piece you wouldnt last 5 mins in a game, (shit, you probably wouldnt last 5mins in flag football), anyway, you couldnt hold a jock for one of those athletes in the AFL
its generally couch potatoes like you that always spew from the mouth and generally can not back it up

I agree with cbrianwatkins. I coach HS ball with 2 guys that played in the league and they both had try out’s in the NFL and they both are serious athletes. It’s not NFL or college, but it is football and they are still hitting out there.
Nice Goodfella’s line at the end Florio.

I enjoyed watching Arena Football cause it had a lot of scoring and more passing than running plays. when it comes to the NFL it can get boring watching three run plays in a row with little to no yards gained. For example I want to see passing plays where guys are doing one handed grabs or getting laid out by a DB . GO AFL!!!!!!

This league is not the IFL. The IFL is a better league but because it didn’t adopt the AFL name it did not get a major TV contract. A lot of the players in the IFL are from the AFL closing out the first time. This league and the people running it are very smart and the commissioner is a very smart and personable guy. I don’t care if it’s (AFL) on a channel on a network that most Americans do not even get, I’ll take the IFL for now.

Lots of NFL players got their start playing Arena Football. A regular person can afford to take his family too. The NFL has priced itself out of a working man being able to take his family. Who can afford 500 to a thousand dollars for a family of four??

As much as I hate on Florio, I really dig the Goodfellas reference.

Oh and FinFan, tell me your name isn’t James. I used to know a guy who always tagged things FinFan, good guy.

I think its stupid that the reigning AFL champions arent even in the league. That should of been the first thing they did is get the Soul to sign on with the AFL 2.
It makes no sense and I wont watch it until they are part of the league.
I dont get what happens with all the players. Are they still under contract? Are they allowed to play on different teams in this new league? Do the Souls get their players back next year if they rejoin the league?
Come on Florio your good at breaking questions down like this. Like you said there’s nothing else happening right now in football so maybe you can break it down for us who actually care or use to care before they took our teams away about the AFL.

Are you the same weepy guy who told us to stop picking on Britney Spears? What are you all up in arms about? I never got the notice that everyone at PFT was required to run a sub-4.5 40 when I registered. I think you should recognize that, while UFL guys may have athletic skills, they’re hardly the elite players we like to watch as fans. And while you may think you’re a “true” football fan because you still play touch football, you should realize that couch potatoes form the bulk (figuratively and literally) of the fan base of the NFL – and if those guys decide that the UFL players aren’t entertaining enough, guess what happens to the UFL? That’s right, it goes the way of the USFL, the WFL and the XFL. Hell, do you play an occasional pickup basketball game? So are you required to follow the WNBA, just because they’re better than you? Honestly, the things people on this site get up in arms about amaze me sometimes.

And you would? You dont know me from Adam, but judging by your apparent passion for Arena football, you’re out there every week comparing dental records with the other die hard fans and pounding Busch by the gallon.
Is real football too confusing for you? Too many yards to count?

  23. Tr3pidation says: Mar 15, 2010 3:06 PM

Not to mention there’s usually a program called “Nifty TV” that will let you stream all the games, so if you don’t have NFL Network but still want to watch you can. =)
