Chris Simms could land in Washington

One of the benefits of following the NFL on an obsessive-compulsive basis is that it becomes fairly easy to connect dots between players and coaches.

Especially when the connections are fairly obvious.

Often, those connections come to fruition.  On other occasions, they don’t.

But since we’re aware of no other player and coach who have their initials tattooed on each other’s legs, we’re inclined to believe that Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will be making a pitch for his team to give free-agent quarterback Chris Simms a look-see.

We’re best friends, and we’ll be best friends for life,” Simms told John McClain of the Houston Chronicle in 2006.  “We hit it off from day one.  We had a common
bond in that our fathers have been such a big part of the
NFL for a long time.”

Simms’ dad is former Giants quarterback Phil.  Shanahan’s dad is former Broncos coach and current Redskins coach Mike.  And since Kyle Shanahan’s dad is also his boss, it could be a fairly easy sell.

The Redskins currently have only two quarterbacks on the roster — Jason Campbell and Colt Brennan.  They reportedly are interested in Rex Grossman, but they have not yet moved on him.

Last year, Simms was a free agent, but Kyle Shanahan’s former team didn’t make a play for him, signing Grossman instead.

Then again, it might not be a good idea for Simms and Shanahan to work together.  The NFL entails plenty of stress, and if things end poorly we’d hate to see either guy have to get his tattoo removed.

Please no way they sign Simms.

how could he get signed before Vick? what has Chris Simms ever done in his NFL career?

  4. realitypolice says: Mar 15, 2010 6:06 PM

I may be the last person on earth that still thinks Simms could be a good QB in this league. I can’t really even defend my position, based upon his hideous performance last year- but I believe given the right opportunity and the enough time to shake the rust off and get into some type of rhythm, he could be a top 15 QB.
He was pretty good in TB before he got hurt, and God knows it wouldn’t cost much to get him. At this point, he would probably take the veteran’s minimum unguaranteed just to get a shot with someone.

Um………pretty sure Vick is already signed. He just got a 1.5m roster bonus, so I think it’s pretty safe to say he has a contract, you ninny.
The skins could trade for Vick, but they would be on the hook for his 2010 salary, which I believe is around 5m. They could get Simms without giving up anything in exchange, and pay him less than 1m.
And since neither one of them has done anything in the league in the last 3 years, the Skins, and most teams actually, would probably choose the cheaper option.

First you say that the Redskins are interested in Grossmen which turned out to be wrong, and now you say the Redskins are interested in Simms because of KS’s friendship but when Kyle was with his former team they didn’t even consider grabbing him. Sounds like your full of BS or just an agent for Grossmen and Simms. LOL

    @ Warrenmoon
Please stop posting. Your support of Vick is based off of nothing but what I am assuming is race.
    @ realitypolice
Hold your chair, I couldn’t agree more. He was developing quite well before he almost DIED during a game. I can’t help but understand why he has been a little slow coming back from that inury. As a Cowboys fan, I immedately got nervous when I read this post.

  8. TDHawk says: Mar 15, 2010 6:28 PM

This story warms me. As a Cowboys fan, I enjoy watching Danny Snyder spend inordinate wads of cash for the Land of Misfit Toys.

Reunited and it feels so good…

@realitypolice: I think he could still succeed as well. Like you said, before his spleen injury that ended his season when in Tampa, he was having a solid season. He just hasn’t had another chance since. The best part of that game though? HE manned up and finished the game for the love of the game. I love this kid. I wish he’d get a second chance..
on that note, I also think David Carr and Rex Grossman can be successful too. Just saying since we’re throwing out first-round “busts”. Carr has had the shittest offensive lines and Grossman had absolutely no running game, receiver, or pass protection. :D

Sounds kinda mushy to me, man-crush style.

  12. PCinOz says: Mar 15, 2010 7:02 PM

More BS Florio, like the Grossman rumour – both having absolutely no substance that you can use to support it?

I get so tired of hearing about mike vick. I mean he is third string and nobody else wants him. What more proof do you need that he sucks. He is good at killing dogs though. P O S

  15. schroeder says: Mar 15, 2010 7:18 PM

How does in the name of Christina Aguilara keep getting a job? They’re jobs with multiple franchises, not just a “homegrown discount” job. Crazytalk!

  16. Bigbluefan says: Mar 15, 2010 7:31 PM

I would have liked to see him put on the Blue and play at the new swap.
This kid has more heart and guts then 99% of the players in the NFL.
This kid almost died in TB but played hurt beyond hurt.
If anyone has courage its Chris Simms he played with a busted spleen. I hope he gets a chance to try and play and maybe start DC maybe the place to do that

  17. Palaceofsin says: Mar 15, 2010 7:32 PM

Ok, I think I’m already over the Shanahan era. If this is the kind of crap that he does, I’m over it. Cut Betts, bring in Larry Johnson. Cut Todd Collins, bring in Chris Simms. Yeah this has success written all over it.

Spleenless klutz. Noodle arm. Stay away from him.

These types of posts do nothing but drag “BlueEyedDevils” and his obnoxious racism into the discussion, so could we please not provoke him?

Cowboys fans cracking jokes, right, I bet not a one is from Dallas or even Texas..
Palaceofsin – Give Shanny some time

  24. boysroll says: Mar 15, 2010 8:43 PM

this team and org is a train wreck…picking up all the scrubs other teams do not want or have bounced around the league.
At least will keep them in the cellar for the next couple of years…LMAO.

  25. MagicMan407 says: Mar 15, 2010 9:00 PM

The Larry Johnson thing ok I can live with that. But Chris Simms? I will lose respect for the new regime if they start signing thier buddies and the season hasnt even started. Hey for starters they should worry bout the line then get another safety who is an actual safety. Cowboy fans really really dont have much room to talk.

  26. Drafty says: Mar 15, 2010 9:15 PM

It’s sweet. Best friends for life!
A couple of hangers-on, neither one having had to prove anything in professional football, but employed because of their fathers’ long-ago glory, possibly reuniting in the same city to gently touch tip-, er, tattoos.
It’s enough to make one s**t.

  27. Lester Hayes says: Mar 15, 2010 9:55 PM

Man come on, and people saying Vick cant throw. This dude has done nothing in the NFL. Nothing.

Redskins want Grossman? I’m not a religious man, but, thank you god.

  30. Skinsfan23 says: Mar 16, 2010 11:05 AM

The only reason the skins won a fourth game last year was Kyle Orton got hurt and Chris Simms came in and played horribly. We dont want this scrub of a QB.

  31. KyleOrtonsArm says: Mar 18, 2010 11:08 PM

And stay out you awful QB joke.
