Hargrove will visit the Lions

p1.hargrove.jpgWith one month to go until the deadline for signing restricted free agents to offer sheets, a member of the Super Bowl champs could be heading to the other end of the NFL spectrum.

Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that defensive lineman Anthony Hargove will visit the Lions, starting today and continuing into Tuesday.

Per Duncan, other teams also are interested.

Hargrove, a third-round pick of the Rams in 2004, isn’t an unrestricted free agent because he was suspended for all of the 2008 season due to multiple violations of the substance-abuse policy.  He has made the most of his second chance in New Orleans, appearing in every game and starting six.

Hargrove played both defensive tackle and defensive end for the Saints in 2009.

Even though the Saints did not originally draft Hargrove, they were able to tender Hargrove at the level of his original draft round, which means that if they choose not to match an offer he receives from another team, they’ll receive a third-round draft pick as compensation.

this is the man that laid out Farve and Warner, give him an extension

  2. BigEasy says: Mar 15, 2010 4:45 PM

This would be a bigger loss than losing Darren Sharper!!

  3. DryBle says: Mar 15, 2010 4:45 PM

Surprising considering the Corey Williams trade. Unless the Lions plan on flipping him to DE which is where he started his career at.

this is the man that laid out Farve and Warner, give him an extension,
or should be worded as follows”this is the man that waited 2 seconds after the ball was out of farves hands on every pass play to take a cheap shot on him”,nothing impressive about him,if he were just a smidge better maybe he couldve made legal hits on the qb,maybe he will get better,or maybe he will just keep playing like trash

I figure that the Saints will match any reasonable offer given to Hargrove by the Lions.
An early 3rd round pick sounds nice, but Hargrove was a huge contributor this year and I’d like to see him come back and get paid.

  7. Thorpie says: Mar 15, 2010 5:00 PM

Saints should match any reasonable offer. if not, they will have to draft another lineman with the 3rd round pick anyway. Saints are light on DT’s and DE’s, so I will be shocked if they let him walk.

No, Bobby McCray was the one who laid out both Favre & Warner, not Hargrove. Hating is a weak emotion and a female trait; no wonder your team didn’t win the Super Bowl because they’re a reflection of their fanbases.

mastablasta must have been high during the NFC championship if he thinks those hits came 2 seconds after Brent threw the ball. Quit crying, you’re just making Viking fans look worse and worse.

“this is the man that waited 2 seconds after the ball was out of farves hands on every pass play to take a cheap shot on him”
Unreal…still more whining. What was your team doing during the Superbowl? Eatin’ Fritos and whackin’ it???
Oh, and it’s spelled FAVRE genius.

  11. PickYourPoison says: Mar 15, 2010 5:26 PM

Ummm, pretty sure that it was Bobby McCray that laid out them quarterbacks, not Hargrove.

  12. Jeff says: Mar 15, 2010 5:40 PM

Hargrove has a lot of personal demons he’s still battling. I want him to succeed, but things change when you get paid.
I wouldn’t lose my mind if my Saints got a 3rd round pick for him. I mean they picked the guy up off the street for next to nothing anyways.
I guess Vikings fans think that if they whine enough and rewrite history, they might our Lombardi Trophy. It’s kinda sad, really.

I wish it was Hargrove and the Lions draft him. Then he would get a shot at Favre at least twice more this year…..LOL…. Too bad it was McCray.

  14. forreal says: Mar 15, 2010 6:01 PM

Saints may want to know his value . . but not sure if the Lions offer (if any) would be a good ‘measuring stick’ for this. I do expect the Saints to match it tho, if not totally outrageous, which I doubt.

  15. bobinpuertorico says: Mar 15, 2010 6:34 PM

The Rams signed Hargrove for a third and then traded him to Buffalo for a third, so they are even. Buffalo got 22 games out of him and then he was tossed out of the league for drugs. The Saints get him for nothing and now if another team signs him, the defending Super Bowl Champs get an extra third round pick. The Bills also lost CB Jabari Greer to the Saints and got nothing for him. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer!

  16. NOwillrepeat says: Mar 15, 2010 6:37 PM

Since Hargrove has a drug problem, Detroit might not be the best fit…

  17. mastablasta says: Mar 15, 2010 7:59 PM

Oh, and it’s spelled FAVRE genius,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
wow you really told me,im sorry didnt know this was a spelling bee,and second,im not a vikings fan or saints fan, just a football fan watching the nfc champ with neutral position, and i saw way, way, way too many late hits, not saying thats why the saints won, just think hargrove might be way too over valued for a game in which he made at least 2 bad late hits thatt werent even close

  18. clintcooper says: Mar 15, 2010 8:13 PM

Ahem, Anthony Hargrove almost cost the Saints bigtime in the Super Bowl with his astonishingly stupid late hit on Joseph Addai which stopped the clock and moved the ball halfway to the endzone. And it was Bobby McCray who hit Kurt Warner in the Divisonal – which was a totally legal hit by the way.

RE:mastablasta – oh you’re right crybaby, the Vikings deserved to win that 5 turnover game. Get the sand out of your verginer.

I’m sick of you Vikings fans crying like f’in school girls! You choked then, and you’ll choke again this year!

    @ NOwillrepeat,
Cause NO is so much better than Detroit!!! It’s such a clean city full of decent people that don’t smoke crack and murder everything that walks. Wasn’t NO the murder and crackhead capitol of the world for like 30 years straight? Outside of Bourbon Street NO is the biggest shithole this side of Somalia.

Get over it chump. Bad calls happen. Saints won. Period.
Your dumb ass coach lost his composer in the most crucial moment of the game, panicked, and wasn’t ready for the correct play call, resulting in confusion and therefor 12 men in the huddle, after a TO nonetheless.
That’s where the game was lost, not farve’s pass. You have no one else to blame other than yourselves and coaching staff.
Saints executed better, and therefor won the game. End of story

Huh, what game did Farve throw that pass back across the middle?
    What down was it?
I thought that a field-goal would have won that game?
Huh…..I thought that the Vikings had the opportunity to win, regardless of the refs….I guess I now know the facts!
Anyway, with regards to this guy coming to our Lions, we’ll take him! Since our GM is not going to be smart enough to take Suh, we might as well get somebody to play DT and/or DE……..We’ll take Okung, and hope he’s better than our current bookends – Jeff Sackus and Gosder CherliBUST!

  27. NOwillrepeat says: Mar 16, 2010 2:55 PM

    TorVikeFan:
Yes, the Saints did execute better. They had 1 turnover to your 5. Most important number in pro football next to the final score. Our coach didn’t choke, yours did. This equals…better execution.
“And no NO team will repeat”
Im glad you agree with me.
