Contained in Sunday's edition was a full-page ad, featuring a Jets logo in the middle of the page, beneath a photo of new Chiefs running back Thomas Jones in his most recent uniform and above the following message: "A person who embodies TOUGHNESS DEDICATION and LEADERSHIP. Thanks TJ for three great seasons." Beneath that appeared the names Woody Johnson, Coach Rex Ryan, Mike Tannenbaum, and the New York Jets.
Asked to explain the ad by Judy Battista of the New York Times, Jets spokesman Bruce Speight said, "T. J. meant a lot to this team. We have a tremendous amount of respect for him and the way he goes about his business. We wish him the best and wanted to express our appreciation."
Said a league source in response, "If this guy is all the things they're saying, why didn't they keep him?"
It's a great question.
The source believes that if the Jets believed what they said in the ad, they would have kept Jones. The source also believes that the ad represents an effort by the Jets to defuse a potentially volatile situation.
The locker room is loyal to Jones, and players are still upset, we're told, by the decision to dump him. The locker room also might not be thrilled about the decision to pay LaDainian Tomlinson even more money than the Chiefs paid to Jones.
"Anytime [G.M. Mike] Tannenbaum feels the heat," the source opined, "he reacts like this. . . . Do you think Jones cares about this [ad]? How do you think he feels about the fact that the paid Tomlinson more money than Jones got in Kansas City?"
By all appearances, then, the ad is an exercise in damage control. The Jets are being criticized for letting Jones go, and we think they needed a gesture aimed at persuading Jones to not take advantage of any lingering influence he might have with his former teammates.
After all, the guy was only there for three years. And when the time came to honor the fourth and final year of his contract, they didn't bat an eye about cutting him.
So spare us the P.R. ploys. The Jets made a bad decision by getting rid of Jones, they've arguably compounded it by signing Tomlinson, and the respective performances of the two players and their teams suddenly has become an interesting story line for the 2010 NFL season.
The "karma police" (if they exist) will make the Jets pay for the way they treated one of the best running backs in the NFL. I predict the Jets will go 9-7 this year, missing the playoffs by one game.
the bottom line is TJ is a journeyman RB who lacks special skills.....LT is a first ballot HOF who may end up the best RB of all time.....nuff said biotches
This move can't be judged now.
San Diego fans expected the world from L.T. because they were used to it. Jets fans won't expect so much, because they realize he isn't the same as he was 3-4 years ago. Shonn Greene will be the feature back in NY anyways.
Thomas Jones will still be productive as a Chief, he just won't make the playoffs.
Please. TJ wouldn't restructure his deal with the Jets plus they saved the roster bonus. Save us the Jets hating Florio.
Letting Thomas Jones walk to sign Tomlinson for more money was a dumb move in so many ways. It's not like TJ had off the field problems or was hated, or anything.
I truly don't understand the psychology of this offseason move other than poor judgement. Selling PSL's? LT was never that big of a star nationally, and he sure as Hell isn't in 2010.
Good luck with this Rubberband Rex.
D!-U!-M!-B! DUMB! DUMB! DUMB!
Thats the guys name The Source ? He always popps up on this page.
I think I'd rather have TJ than LT.....he seems tougher
That's pretty lame on the Jets part..
Also, just looked at the stats, looks like TJ is gaining steam and LT is fizzling..
Tannenbaum is a moron. Since Mangini left, he is looking worse and worse.
Doesn't matter. Rex Ryan is the Ozzie Guillen of head coaches...great, unexpected first season, then his mouth and demeanor and personal foibles drag the team down with each passing season.
The Tomas Jones situation is very interesting?
I think L.T. is a good role model and all, but pulled groin, hamstring and ankle issues?
Some of these free agent moves, really make you scratch your head.
They were saving face by doing the advertisement. I agree totally with that.
LT replacing TJ is a huge downgrade for the Jets. Coupled that with the loss of Kerry Rhodes, they just made it that much easier for the Patriots to win thier 8th division in the last 10 years in 2010.
If you look at LT's stats when the weather is 50 degrees or less, it's 2.8 yards per carry and less than 40 yards per game. He's a running back over 30 and one who does not have the toughness to run against the Dolphins or Patriots. Also not so sure that Shon Greene is a complete back who can catch out of the backfield.
This decision may end up playing about as well as moving Leno to 10pm.
To bad the ad didn't also say BROKE DOWN TOWARDS THE END OF THE SEASON.
Seriously, Florio, did you watch the Jets late last season? Thomas Jones was not a big part of their playoff run.
letting a productive 31 year old running back go and bringing in a 30 year old running back who is in decline doesn't make much sense at all.
I realize that using a players age is very often an accurate way of predicting future productivity, but their are players who excel when they are supposed to be "past their prime"
LT's productivity has decreased for the last 3 years, while TJ's productivity has increased, and yet the Jets thought it would be a good idea to pay LT and let TJ walk?
LT has a reputation as a crybaby, while TJ continues to work hard and for the most part keep his mouth shut.
This move made no sense, but as a Bills fan I'm happy they made it. It's always fun to watch a division rival screw up.
Or maybe they let him go because he'd be a part time back and he said himself it takes him a bunch of carries to get on a roll? And that Tomilson is a better receiver out of the backfield, something the Jets didn't have at all last year? Of course that would require Florio to actually do some actually thinking associated with football so that can't be it...
I loved TJ in the green and white...but I think that at the end of the year he slowed down and in the Playoffs he was a non-factor, Green went out vs. the Colts and we could not move the ball after that moment.
Respectively I feel that LT although he had half the yards as TJ played for a team that did not have the best run blocking (worst in the league actually) and who plays FB for the Chargers? We have a great run blocking O-line and one of the best FB's still playing in Richardson. I think that LT has over 1,000 yards on the ground and 500+ receiving.
Hey but at least they got a guy who will fall forward for 2 yards per carry!
The Patriots should send the Jets an ad saying
"THANKS FOR SCREWING UP"
We'll see who has a better season...TJ with no line or LT with the best line. TJ injured by week 4 and LT over 1,ooo with 12 TD's.
What a terrible call.. im not saying TJ will have a monster year..
but to dump him and sign a Douche bag like LT .. thats just bad business
Sounds like some Conspiracy Theorists have WAY too much time on their hands.
But, not Florio...the Perez Hilton of football.
Florio, you are such a stooge....you've killed Tannenbaum for 3 years now and continue to do so....You murdered him for the Jenkins trade, the Faneca, Pace and Scott signings calling them desperation moves ...MOST of his drafting and moves have been great moves with the exception of Vernon Gholston (supposedly Mangini driven) He's cutting a guy that looked completely washed up at the end of the season and in the playoffs and not paying him 5.8 million for a guy he's paying 2.5 million. Granted...LT could be washed up too. but your continued agenda against Tannenbaum despite them proving you wrong over the last year is a joke.
Who cares, both backs are done.
TJ will double the performance of LT2 in 2010. The Jets are idiots.
If the majority of the team was loyal to Jones, what is going to happen when LT is sitting on the sidelines during a playoff game? Time to get a subsciption to the post.
Simply put:
Jones wanted to be a starter, and he wanted his 5.8M for 2010. The Jets weren't going to pay 5.8M.
This whole the Jets had a chance to match is BS. He wanted to be a starter. Why would he come here and be a backup when he can start in KC when that's what he wanted?
talk about a PR stunt, thats exaclty what the LT signing is. To sell tickets and jerseys. the guy is washed up.
go phins
This site is sounding more like TMZ than ProFootballTalk. C'mon, Mike, submit the portfolio to the Enquirer and get it over with already.
If TJ still had it, if everything was perfect, he would still be a Jet. It's a business, not a Miss Congeniality Contest.
Isn't there a player somewhere in the NFL accused of sexual misconduct or something sordid like that for you to focus on??
He was "only there for three years?" Isn't that about the average career length of an NFL RB? 3 years may not be much in terms of a human lifespan, but it is a significant time to spend with one NFL team.
Either way, the Jets clearly botched this situation in about every way possible.
Clearly it's damage control from the Jets. But they have every right to cut Jones & sign LT (not that many people think it's a smart move... but this is the Jets we're talking about). And I don't really think that people are going to feeling sorry for the multi-millionare Jones.
The Jets really screwed the pooch on this one. I'm a Bears fan and we are still feeling the effects of letting TJ go. I wish the Bears could admit a mistake though and pickup Jones for half of what they paid Chester Taylor. Don't get me wrong I love that we signed Taylor but Jones is still running real hard. Its a shame he has to play for a crappy KC team. They better hope Shonn Green stays healthy cause LT has lost many steps since his MVP in 06.
Clintcooper, you're a clown. What is wrong with the way the Jets treated Thomas Jones? This is the NFL, players get cut in bunches, this is business.
clint- The karma police do in fact exist. They are a team of 15-20 small furry animals that have an odd resemblance to Florio's hair. They also seem to love macamadamia nut cookies.
Didn't the New York Jets decide to post this ad before they signed LT?
Why is everyone being so retarded about him being let go? They have a younger and cheaper version of TJ in the form of the younger RB and LT will handle 3rd downs. Why would they spend the money on a guy to carry the ball 20 times a game when their rookie is there to do that?
i heard from an inside source hired as an outside consultant by the jets that jones didn't get along with the training staff and didn't allow any of them to spot him or to speak to him. hes not as much of a leader as advertised
The Jets making bad decisions? Naw, say it ain't so, Joe!!
Please, that's like saying that Sara Palin is a bit conservative.
After they sh--can him, they pay LT more money than TJ wanted, then they take out an ad sayin "Thanks" ? WTF ? Why didn't they save the ad money and give it to him as a going away present ?
Who's bright idea was this ?
Thx TJ. We liked you but not that much.
"Anytime [G.M. Mike] Tannenbaum feels the heat," the source opined, "he reacts like this. . . . Do you think Jones cares about this [ad]? How do you think he feels about the fact that the paid Tomlinson more money than Jones got in Kansas City?"
Mike Tannenbaum is a clown. Rex will get tired of his crap and the bloom will soon be off the rose.
One more year and Tannenbaum will be fired. Mark it down.
The Jets are such a lowly organization. They do things like this, bringing on LT, Mangina, etc etc forall the wrong reasons. They deserve to lose forever.
One source, JUST ONE SOURCE is all you attributed to the "report" that the Jets were offered a chance by Thomas Jones to match the contract he received from the Jets.
No other publication/website/rumor mongerer has been able to independently verify your "source". They just re-hash your little story on the situation.
Until Thomas Jones or the Jets come out and say "we had a chance to match and declined" all of these stories are meaningless, but like all of your NBC and hockey plugs.
The full page ad was the least the Jets could do for the service he gave us, but paying a 32 year old RB that broke down $5 mill for ONE YEAR when we had a young and hungry RB waiting for his chance, would have been asinine.
I love this. How desperate can a team look? Team cuts TJ, fronts a CB a half million bucks to pay back child support, Rex gets Belly procedure, team signs LT, looses coin flip and now they are sending their propaganda to KC. LMAO. Mark Sanchez is due for a slump. Let the good times roll. Next up losing to the Pats.
Liar, liar your pants on fire. Why dump TJ for LT if not for personal reasons?
Jones carried this team offensively for the entire regular season.; to turn around and dump him for a guy that average 2 ypc against you in the playoffs make ZERO sense.
The Jets will crash and burn this season. LT is not even close to TJ in terms of production, and Sanchez well is Sanchez. He had the best rushing attack in football and the best he could manage was a 60 something qb rating.
Although I really believe Mike Tannenbaum is inept as a GM, I think the difference between LT and TJ is that LT was willing to take the backup role in New York. Had TJ stayed, he would have wanted to continue to be the featured back, which he probably deserves, however, NYJ is ready to give Greene his shot.
Also, I think LT wants to continue being a #1 guy and taking the backup role behind a young, unproven back, gives him the chance to sneak into the lineup if he has any success carrying the rock. LT would have never pierced the Vikings starting lineup unless Peterson was injured. In New York, LT has a shot if Greene doesn't show up.
Lame move by a bush league organization. Have fun with Tomlinson.
@clintcooper:
The rest of the AFC will get to them long before the karma police do.
Any JETS fans out there happy with this exchange of personnel?
I still can't understand this move by the Jets...
Just like HJ left the Vikes standing for Seattle, so did LT for the Jets. Karma is a beotch boys... Neither team will make the playoffs this year. LT will quit 1/2 way through the season.
I agree! Jets go 9-7 and miss the playoffs! What a "Slap in the face" to TJ. What's next??? A Bigger then life size picture on the side of the Empire State Building of LT falling down after a yard and half gain???
JETS lose to Chargers after missing easy field goals. LT sits on the bench pouting with his helment on so you can't see his child like reaction.
Does everyone remember last offseason when Jones wanted to rework his deal for more money? Or when he broke down at the end of the season this year? If we kept Jones for the two year deal that he accepted with the KC, not only will he keep Greene from growing for another season but we run the risk that he comes out next season after a good year and says again "I want more money, I wanna rework my contract" and we'd have to dump him then presumably after they have a cap in place. This is a good move for the Jets. It"s time for Greene to take more of a hold on the offense and who better to learn from the Tomlinson? LT is a stand up guy and a great football player (albeit not the same guy from a couple years ago), if he can mentor Greene a little I think that just makes Greene and the Jets even better as a team. Not to mention, we have the best O-line in the NFL, let's see what happens this year before we give this the title of worst move ever.
The Jets should go ask the Bears how that worked out in getting rid of Jones while he was still productive. They haven't made the playoffs since. Discounting his impact on the locker room is short sighted and paying LT for his washed up name recognition is absurd. He can't play anymore, or did I miss that 3.3 yard per carry average, and he wasn't playing with the Sanchize and his 20+ turnovers. His QB was actually good.
the ad would have made sense to me if the jets had simply released jones and brought in either someone to be the top back, or brought in someone else to split carries who they are going to pay less than they paid jones. but by bringing in LT, and paying him more than Jones, they are sending the message that cutting Jones wasn't about money, it was about their belief he wasn't going to be effective as Jet any longer. What is also telling is that the ad came out not when they cut Jones, or even when Jones signed with KC, but on the day they signed LT.
I love all the people on here ripping an AFC Championship team...so Tannenbaum will be fired after drafting David Harris, Darrele Revis, Shonn Greene, Mark Sanchez, Dustin Keller, Leon Washington, Jerricho Cotchery....name your teams and the stellar draft record in comparison..Jets have been rebuilt under Tannenbaum
As a Giants fan, I do not have a dog in this fight.
However, here are things to consider:
The Jets clearly feel that Greene is their starter.
Tomlinson (I refuse to call him LT) is at the end of his career. If he is willing to be a 3rd down back - it could be a good signing for the JETS.
TJ wants to be the starter and paid like it. The Jets felt otherwise.
The Jets management did not take into consideration the impact on the locker room. In a season with no salary cap, they could have held onto TJ without an impact on the Cap. By cutting him to avoid paying $ (no cap to impact) it sent a message to the rest of the team.
There will be damage from this.
If Greene goes down, and Tomlinson has to start - the Jets will be in a lot of trouble.
"Why would he come here and be a backup when he can start in KC when that's what he wanted?"
No way he's starting over Jamaal Charles in KC. He'll get 40% of the load at best.
Lol wow da jets r so fake I jus Dnt understand this move isn't it a uncap year and he had 1 year left on his contract hmm its kinda flaw If u ask me good luck next year Rex ur gonna need it but luck like last year only comes. Once on a life time so lol guess yu used up all of ur luck
22, 26, 27, 21, 21, 25, 23, 23, 19, 23, 27
Those are 31-yr old Thomas Jones' carries each game from Week 6-17.
Gee, I wonder why he wore down at season's end.
Dear San Diego / NY Jets,
Thanks SD for getting rid of LT, we won't miss him in our division.
Thanks NY for being dumb and getting rid of TJ. Can't wait to see him and Charles together. You may send some more of your players over if you want. Rhodes would have been nice.
AFC West is open. Denver is a mess, Oakland is Oakland and San Diego has a lot of contracts / ego's to deal with and no LT (even if he has faded).
Some more talent along with the coaching we have and we just might make noise and get into the dance.
Once again thanks SD and NY.........
Chado- This isn't youtube. On this site, we speak/ type in english. kthx
Ironic that people are arguing that Jones broke down at the end of the season and disappeared for the playoffs which is why they cut him. So they bring in a guy who hasn't shown up for a playoff game in over 4 YEARS and was completely invisible towards the end of last season himself. Then on top of that pay him MORE money than the guy who you cut? Makes perfect sense.
We get 2 years of LT for what TJ wanted for one year. Does anyone else not see that? TJ is the one who wouldn't re-structure with the Jets. He signed the small money deal in KC when he couldve just taken that from the Jets and avoided being cut in the first place. Theres plenty of blame to go around here. And yes, this ad was purchased and ran BEFORE the Jets signed LT2. Whether LT2 will be more productive than TJ will be has nothing to do with what happened with TJ. All these media types and retard fans who don't know the whole situation really need to shut there mouths. And as for the guy who said Tanny would be fired in a year, are you nuts? Tannenbaum has been a top 5 GM in the NFL for the past 4 years or so. No way he's going anywhere. Get used to the Jets being in the headlines though because they'll be there for a while.
I find it odd that they would put this in the KC paper but not in a NY paper. By all appearances, the Jets don't want their locker room fractured over letting TJ go, so why try to suck up to Jones in front of KC but not do it in front of their own players?
I can't believe I am saying this...
I can't wait for the Pats to kick the **** out of the Jets this year! The Jets are just becoming annoying. Let's take a look at this team...
Head coach Rex "Big mouth and Big belly" Ryan
WR Braylon "I can't catch the easy ones" Edwards
QB Mark "Is it possible to have a sophmore slump year when your first year's QB rating was 63?" Sanchez
And they dump Thomas Jones for Ladanian "I dive straight to the ground after gaining 2 yards...because I have a bad O-line of course" Tomlinson
Seriously...who can possibly cheer for this team?
@clintcooper - that's generous
T.Jones is a good running back, but he didn't restructure his deal. Maybe if he told the Jets he would sign for 5 mill over 2 years he might still be there. He signed with KC where he isn't going to be the number 1 either. They have J.Charles, who if LJ wasn't there at the start of the season would have probably finished 2nd in the league in rushing. TJ can't catch out of the back feild LT can and at worst hes a better red zone weapon. LT also had a joke of a line last season, he was under 4 yards a carry but so was the younger, less worn down D.Sproles. I think this is a good move for the Jets. They were not getting TJ for 5 million over 2, he signed that deal after he realized no one wanted him that bad. LT will be very motivated and has a way better O-Line.
Are you stupid Florio? Mikey T was leaving a subliminal message. Take the initials from "Leadership, Dedication, and Toughness" .....LDT...LaDanian Thomlinson....jeez...
Letting Jones go was a bad move before they picked up LT. As a Bears fan, I can tell you, the Jets will be kicking themselves by mid-season.
The Jets lucked out last year and were never that good. Letting Jones go to sign a washed up back that has not done a thing in 3 years did not make them better.
If I was a player on the Jets and these clown coaches started talking about team I would laugh my ass off. That is why I love when I see a player like Peppers able to shit all over a club. Team my ass, anf any Jets players that may have doubted that were schooled with the Jones move.
I don't understand why NFL contracts are structured so that salaries rise as the player ages. It makes no sense. Ditto big offseason roster bonuses.
Any player who signs a contract like that is asking to get released before it's up unless they play at an all pro level every year.
Guys as employees we all have to remember employers for the most part are skanks. This is just a way for the Jets organisation to cover their ass's for a bad PR move they made.
This makes about as much sense as the Skins getting rid of two 30 year old backs and signing a different 30 year old back - who hasn't done much since '06.
And if they really wanted to show him the love, they would have spent the dough on a billboard.
"I think that LT has over 1,000 yards on the ground and 500+ receiving. "
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
maybe 5 years ago..he wont make it through the season trust me..he will get injured.
--------------------------------------------------
"This whole the Jets had a chance to match is BS. He wanted to be a starter. Why would he come here and be a backup when he can start in KC when that's what he wanted?"
but the thing is he wont be starting in kansas city
Charles is the man and will take the majority of the carries,Jones will get a decent number of carries though, from what we here short yardage and goal line situations..
What may not be known is whether Jones was grumbling about his reduced role down the stretch last season. Green got the carries, and Jones might have been complaining about no longer being the #1 back. Jones also had a falloff in receiving yards, and there is a unofficial guideline that says the receiving yards diminish right before the running yards. No one knows how this will turn out until the 2010 season. If Jones rushing yards and average diminish, there will be a " I told you so' from the Jets braintrust.
Tannenbaum is on his way out??? PLEASE!
2006

And all but one of these guys is still here! All of you that think Tennenbaum is a hack, are either RETARDED or are JEALOUS! What other explanation could there be???
Punt ya through the up-rights before offering kudos.
That's like LT inviting Ryan to visit him in San Diego and giving him a pat on the back while standing on the edge of a cliff.

Best of all time? ...really?
Same old lousy Jets.
I am still trying to figure out the logic behind cutting a top notch back/locker room leader only to pay a Tomlinson more money. As good as LT has been he is fading fast. Maybe the Jets love Shonn Greene so much that they want him to know he is their #1 back. He did get the bulk of the carries down the stretch. I don't know.
they shoulda used the money to pay for this ad and added it to thomas jones' offer. another example of a GM looking to cover his ass
Hilarious !
Comments/evaluations about the Jets GM from fans who root for an organization that is 10-38 in the last three years .. nice GM you have ..
and where do you do your math ? How is TJ's 5.9M roster bonus for this year less money than the Jets got for LT for two years ? and I love the "The Jets are going 9-7 next year and miss the playoffs" - idiots! the Jets were 9-7 and made the playoffs this year! The Chiefs would kill to be 9-7 this year .. and get this : they won 2 playoff games !! keep dreaming about that !
and all these stats? When the Chargers gave up running the ball where do you think LT's #'s were going to go? The Jets don't say they are going to run the ball.. they are committed to it ..
I can't wait to go back to this publication a year from now and wonder how many of these TJ lovers are going to think his deal is worth it .. ??
"same old lousy Jets" .. love that ..
isn't the Chumps .. I mean the Chiefs 10-38 the last 3 years?
"Comments/evaluations about the Jets GM from fans who root for an organization that is 10-38 in the last three years .. nice GM you have .."
Chiefs' GM was only around for one of those losing seasons and was part of a team that won 3 Super Bowl before coming to KC genius.
It's not about what the Chiefs will pay TJ... it's about what the Jets would've had to pay TJ, Mike.
TJ was cut, because he was due $5.8 million in 2010, and wouldn't renegotiate.
Supposedly, TJ's agent went back to the Jets, to see if they'd match KC's offer, but we don't know that.
So, please, enough with the spin, & revisionist history.
You're impugning motives. The locker room theory wouldn't be effective as a March motivator.
You have to judge action on its merits. By signing off on this the Jet owners and organization showed genuine respect for the player. Some would believe it was a classy thing to do. Perhaps it was even more sincere and heartfelt.
"You have to judge action on its merits. By signing off on this the Jet owners and organization showed genuine respect for the player. Some would believe it was a classy thing to do. Perhaps it was even more sincere and heartfelt."
Then why not just give him a call on the phone and tell him those things? When you take out a full page ad in a newspaper, there is more to it than simply saying "thanks" to Jones because you want to make sure people see that you are doing it.
thanks endzoneview. for being a voice of reason
JBreeze says :
"I am still trying to figure out the logic behind cutting a top notch back/locker room leader only to pay a Tomlinson more money."
Are you really this stupid? How is 5.1 million over 2 years more money than 5.8 for 1 year?
Sounds like a classy move to me.
Alot more than Seymore got from the Pats or LT will get from the Chargers.
A Patriots fan here,
I understand the business end of cutting Jones. The Jets did not think he wasn't worth 5.8 M this year. I understand spending half that on Tomlinson per year.
Whether, Tomlinson is worth the money, who knows. But it won't take nearly as much production for him to justify his salary as it would have for Jones. And if it help sell thse PSLs' , even better, as long as the damage in the lockeroom is containable.
So this is probably a good business decision.
But the ad....Stupid and Tasteless. C'mon...they are praising the guy they let go because they don't think he was worth the salary. How about they just give him the money they spent on the ad as a severance package instead, if they want to show their appreciation.
do you think LT will quit on his team and sit on the sideline with his helmet on the way he quit against the Patriots in the AFC Championship game? He hasn't been the same since. Rivers played that game with a torn ACL. That is why the Chargers became River's team. LT didn't like that. Whiney bitch I can't wait for Wilfork to smack him in the mouth.

=====================================
Guess your idea of changing the clock for daylight savings time is a little different than the rest of the world's
What are things like back there in 2006?
I am not an expert but I believe this was about the future development of the Jets running and passing game, Green is similar to to Jones in running style. He is the future of the Jets. He needs to be #1 runner as soon as possible with no comparisons to Jones if he is not productive early in the season. Jones was not a receiver out of the backfield. Sanchez had no one to dump a pass to when he was in trouble, that is why Sanchez had so many interceptions. LT can receive passes as a safety valve when Sanchez is in trouble. This also builds Sanchez's confidence. In two years we will know if this move helps build a dynasty like NE has had. Confidence is the key to a winner.
