The Steelers launched their offseason workout program on Monday, and one of the guys who by all appearances could use all the exercise he can get wasn’t there.
Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger “is not working out with his teammates and is not at the Steelers’ practice facility.”
No reason was given for his absence from the voluntary sessions. He has not been seen publicly since he most recent misadventures, in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Maybe he doesn’t want to leave any DNA on the weight room equipment.
He’s doing his off season workouts at might.

I’ve seen from two different sources that in GA there are two types of sexual assault, simple and aggrevated. Simple sexual assault is indeed just a misdemeanor (where jail time *can* be given but usually isn’t), whereas aggrevated is a felony (with a mandatory minimum of 5 years in prison).
Now, that begs that question: what makes a sexual assault an *aggravated* sexual assault?
From a quick look online at the Georgia legal code, it appears sexual assault is aggravated EITHER if rape occurred (i.e. nonconsensual penetration) or if one assaults another “with the intent to commit rape, aggravated sodomy, or aggravated sexual battery.”
Ben’s probably in the clear regarding the felony version as long as his story about the girl slipping & hitting her head on the ground is true. If on the other hand her injuries (to her face or head, from what it sounds like) were a result of something he did to her while they were in some sort of sexual act, then you might be looking at sexual battery which would up the sexual assault to the felony level.
Lots of uncertainty right now.

Any of you people look at your current work environment. How many times have you heard rumors and found out just that. Just rumors. As a manager I go through this kind of stuff alot to find out the truth. Almost all the time it is someone over hearing snipets of a conversation and ad libbing to that. SOOOOO the story turns fiction with about 10% truth. And besides aren’t all these jokes considered slander in a kind of way. If Roethlisberger wanted to, he could sue because it is in public forums and your names are all tied to it. That would be and open and shut case. Self incrimination is a bitch. And all of you Roethlisberger haters would be donating to any of charities that he chooses. That’s what I would do if I was Roethlisberger. Hire a team to go after the people who love to sling mud without the facts……just a thought………things that make you go hmmmmmm….

Ummm, you might want to read the US Supreme Court case NY Times Co. v. Sullivan. It will lay out for you that when the plaintiff in a libel case is a PUBLIC FIGURE he must prove, inter alia, that the author of the alleged defamatory remarks either, 1) published them KNOWING that they were FALSE or 2) published them w/RECKLESS DISREGARD as to the truth of the statements. I’ll let you decide if the posters on this site can possibly meet either legal standard. I can’t wait for your conclusion!
