Steelers wrap up deal for Foote

One year after leaving the Steelers because he didn’t want to be a backup, Larry Foote is back in black and gold.  As a backup.

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports Foote, 30, agreed to a three-year, $9.3 million contract.  That includes a $1.8 million signing bonus. The Redskins and Cardinals also showed interest in Foote, but he clearly wasn’t offered starter’s money elsewhere.

Foote will be a reserve at inside linebacker and provide the Steelers flexibility should they ever need to move Lawrence Timmons to the outside because of injury.

    Hey NTMID8R3,
Get your story straight… the bumb who lives in California is Joey Porter you moron…. nobody wants to play in Arizona..check out how many players you guys lost this year… i guess you didnt get the message yet. Umm, when larry foote said he wanted to go back to a winner, he meant the Steelers (if you dont remember we beat your sorry team 2 years ago in the SB)
I guess i dont have to say too much more.

I think the Steelers have had great signings this offseason. Bolstered their special teams, and added a lot of depth.

Hey Larry Foote, how’s it feel to be a second-rate SCRUB with the market value of a swollen can of Three Bean and Botulism Salad? The phrase that pays for you is “Do you want fries with that?”, because several Mickey Ds in Shitsburgh are still hiring.

  8. superfan99 says: Mar 15, 2010 11:58 AM

They are saying “back up” right now, but Timmons may move into Farrior’s spot and Foote could have his old job back.

  9. Shawn says: Mar 15, 2010 12:02 PM

Foote maid the right decision, going back to the team that he won 2 superbowls with. And of course it dosen’t hurt he knows the system. Steelers just need to get some depth at the CB position and they should have a #1 defense again(If Polamalu can stay healthy).

  10. Jimmy Football says: Mar 15, 2010 12:04 PM

Actually, Larry Foote is from the Michigan area and has many charities in Detroit. He wanted to leave the Steelers last year to play in Detroit.
Detroit did not want him back this year.

  11. Love the Ravens says: Mar 15, 2010 12:05 PM

agreed JP…black and yellow. Gold is the color the Saints sport. The Steelers are black and yellow, the Packers and green and yellow, the Chargers are blue and yellow. You get the picture…..

Jpgedds, then your name is pronounced MOR | ON
The Steelers are universally known as the Black & Gold. If your peabrain simply cannot accept that, then I suggest not posting at all to avoid revealing your severely lacking intellect.

His home is in Detroit. Not California

  20. dietrich43 says: Mar 15, 2010 12:27 PM

That’s not backup money. That’s “competition for our two starting ILBs” money. Don’t be surprised if Timmons and Foote start by the end of the year with Farrior on the bench.

  21. DieHardSkinsFan21 says: Mar 15, 2010 12:32 PM

Wow, I think that the squeelers are really reaching here. I mean the Skins, and the Lions wouldn’t give this guy that kind of money and the squeelers did? There seems to be a bit of desperation out of pitt.

Apparently we’re going SB XL style…wonder what JB’s doin these days.

  23. mrogers18 says: Mar 15, 2010 12:38 PM

Depth is a nice thing to have. Despite Ben, the Steelers are having a decent offseason.

  27. KenC says: Mar 15, 2010 12:51 PM

The Cardinals missed the boat. The fans wanted Foote bad.

  28. NTMID8R3 says: Mar 15, 2010 1:04 PM

Sorry, they had an interview with both Porter & Foote. I got the two mixed up. Shit happens you know??
Sour Grapes???? No. At least we made the playoffs Steeler fans…..WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO LAST YEAR??? Sat at home and waited for Ben to rape again…….NICE!!!!

  29. Voxs_Mom says: Mar 15, 2010 1:09 PM

    @ slipkid
Jeff Hartings came from the Lions, and he seemed to do just fine in Pittsburgh. Dick LeBeau also finally reached the pinnacle after Detroit, albeit a more convoluted route.

  30. DoctorK says: Mar 15, 2010 1:13 PM

Another good signing for the black and gold (yes, that was the right term) but I have to wonder how and when the team’s most pressing needs–O-line and the defensive backfield—are going to be addressed. Through the draft?
Still have to laugh at the morons who think the Steelers are going to lose a QB over all of this. He may be an ass….but he’s our ass.

Foote has 7 years of tenure with the Steelers and was on both 2000-era championship teams. Given the history, you could easily make an argument for the rationale being a bit broader than just money. Or you take your route and cry about it.

Yes, reaching. Deion Sanders + Bruce Smith + Albert Haynesworth + Jeff George + Adam Archuleta + Mark Brunell= ONE playoff win.
The Redskins gave Randle El 31 Million.
    Who’s desperate?
    P.S – Steve Spurrier? LOL!

  33. jollyrob68 says: Mar 15, 2010 2:48 PM

They paid too much but he’s good insurance. I can see him starting and Farrior as the backup or retiring. If we can pickup a CB then we dont need to reach in the draft.

Yeah, Shit happens like the Cards making the playoffs last year. You made the playoffs with a 10-6 record in a weak NFC West. We went 9-7 in the AFC North.
And to all of you idiots it is black and gold. Sherwin Williams has a color that refers to it as Gusto Gold. The Saints color is referred to as Old Gold or on their website Olde World Gold.

Are you serious………You paid Randel El 31 Million…………….Haynesworth was a bust….and Steve Spurrier was….shit why would I want to even argue the point with you.

lol the nerve of any Redskin fans saying the Steelers are overpaying lol . Do i really need to say more ?
Foote is a great player and loved in the locker room . Another solid signing by the STeelers . The draft will be like this . 9 picks 6 on defense . 3 on offense . Two olineman with a RB . On defense its just needs to get younger . 2 d lineman . 3 linebackers and one CB . There is the Steelers draft .

  37. VaSteel says: Mar 15, 2010 10:03 PM

Why would Foote want to play for Pittsburgh West, an imitation, when he can play for the real deal – that is, the original Black and Gold that smoked AZ in the Super Bowl.
He’s even saying he’d rather be a backup in the Burgh than start in AZ. And who could blame him!
He saw the exodus out of AZ and wanted no part of it. Last player out, turn off the lights.
