Davis signs with Bills

Linebacker Andra Davis will go down as Buffalo’s first free agent acquisition on defense of the Chan Gailey era.

Davis told Josina Anderson of Fox 31 in Denver that it’s a “done deal. I am a Buffalo Bill now.”

We’ve been critical of Buffalo’s move to a 3-4 defense because the Bills don’t have the personnel to pull it off, but Davis is a solid low-cost piece to help bridge the gap until Buffalo’s incoming draft picks are ready to play.

now if they only had a competent NT

Who cares, they suck and they always have. Even when that hack of a QB Kelly was there.

The guy’s a class act and perfect for a blue collar town like Buffalo. He keeps his mouth shut and plays football. Leads by example. Good signing for the Bills.

Very nice move that brings some leadership to the changes. Still a lot of work needed, and more of a 1-2 year stopgap piece. If they can couple this with say, Dwan Edwards, the defense looks a lot better. Still would have to add a NT, perhaps another DE later, a couple OL pieces, perhaps another WR, and of course, there’s obviously a concern at QB.

    Your welcome Florio ;)
The transition will be well on its way if the Bills strike a deal with Dwan Edwards.

Wow, there is a pulse at One Bills Drive!!! Lock in Dwan Edwards and the Bills suddenly become relevent again.

why wouldn’t the bills be able to run a 3-4 defense
they have Marcus Stroud who can play NT
OLB is Poslunsky and Maybin inside can be Kawika Mitchell and Schobel, the DE can be McCargo, besides they can always look in the draft for another 3-4 type of LB

hey wow, finally a smart move by the bills…what do ya know

  9. notoriousdln says: Mar 16, 2010 5:26 PM

who is davis? gotta give it to the bills they really know how to encourage season ticket holders.

i would wonder what this means for kawika mitchell…if he wasn’t kawika mitchell. davis is a solid veteran move for them.

  11. moeskills says: Mar 16, 2010 5:36 PM

Great move, not sure about Mitchell’s injury. Can move Mitchell out side if he’s o.k. All we need now is Edwards this way that’s less we have to worry about on draft day. Now we should trade Whitner & Williams for more draft picks.

my understanding of the situation is that Stroud doesn’t want to play NT, understandable since he may be a bit undersized for the position
as for kawika, i love the guy, but he’s a bit overrated in my opinion (which means nothing). He can move outside too if Schobel retires, hopefully he doesn’t

They have many of the pieces in place to move to a 3-4 already, just not the experience. The biggest DT moves to the nose (Stroud or Williams) to take up 2 blockers and the other DTs move to DE to hold up one blocker and stuff the run.
They have speed at DE with Maybin and Schobel or Davis and Ellison at LB who now are moved to OLB and put their hand in the dirt on passing plays as pass rushers.

Many times I will read these comments and wonder if some (not all) of you ever have a clue on the NFL. Andra Davis is a great signing for the Bills for many reasons….successful 3/4 ILB, leadership, toughness, etc. Also Dwan Edwards (if healthy) would be another great signing and we DO need a NT….yeah right Marcus Stroud at NT…..he couldnt stop anyone on the inside with another DT right next to him! Maybe if we get Edwards we could get rid of Schobel (it hurts me to write that), Kelsay (see ya), Denney, Stroud and ask Kyle Williams to eat fried foods all offseason after his workouts. Then of course the haunted QB and OT position………

Good signing Buffalo. I’m a Jet fan but at least you will finish ahead of that scum bag city called Miami which happens to be the number one city for house foreclosures. The scumbag city rates as follows :
    1. Miami, Fla.
    Delinquency rate: 28.8%
In greater Miami, including Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, one-quarter of mortgages are 90 days past due or worse. In Miami proper, one-fifth of mortgages are in foreclosure or converted to REO. Worst in the country by far.
Last one out shut out the lights! LMAO Dorksville…………

Awesome signing by the Bills. His character is a much needed locker room influence and someone the people of Buffalo would love.
Also, this signing does a few things for the Bills new transition. If Schobel decides to hang it up they can bring Kawika outside and leave Davis in the middle with Poz. But, more importantly, if Maybin isn’t ready to handle OLB (a position he has never played) Kawika could take over for the time being.
I really like what the front office is doing lately, not breaking the bank but finding good value players.

My apologies Bills9951, I do not remember that, I remember the 4 Superbowls, just not this thing you speak of “supbowls.” Anyways, yes he took them to 4 superbowls, but also his partying ways, along with other top players most likely played a major role in some of the Superbowl defeats. So congrats on making it, and then not acting like a leader of the team and allowing the team to do what they want all hours of the night.

  21. toddzman says: Mar 17, 2010 11:02 AM

    tippy,
question: were you there back in jan/feb of 1991-1994, in tampa, minneapolis, pasadena and atlanta? If so great. But even if so, were you in the presence of #12 when he was in his hang-out clothes?? I highly doubt it.
So how do you know that Jim Kelly was “not acting like the leader of the team and allowing the team to do what they want all hours of the night”?
Maybe the team was overwhelmed in Tampa and overmatched for the rest of the SB’s.
You’re a putz. Please bring something relevant and intelligible next time or shut your pie hole. Any idiot can type random sub 70 IQ level garbage.

I will personally oversee the fight between tippy and bills9951 (and probably assist bills9951)…..The Bills are part of the NFL fabric even if we have been relegated to a joke in the past decade…..If we can finally get a decent QB then maybe we can make a change for the better because the 3 headed monster at QB looks rather pathetic right now…Decent moves by the management here so far despite the lack of an OT…..
