Eagles, Tapp have agreed on contract extension

070815_darryl_tapp.jpgFor those of you wondering whether the Eagles traded for Seahawks defensive end Darryl Tapp without signing him to a new deal, wonder no longer.

Per a league source, the Eagles have worked out a contract extension with Tapp.

On Monday, Tapp signed his one-year restricted free agency tender.  Execution of the tender offer allowed the Seahawks to trade Tapp.

So instead of getting the second-round tender the Seahawks would have received if Tapp had signed an offer sheet that the Seahawks hadn’t matched, they get defensive end Chris Clemons and a fourth-round pick.

But there’s one caveat.  The source says that the trade and the contract hinge on Tapp passing a physical on Thursday.

UPDATE:  Our friends at KJR have advised us that Tapp has confirmed in an on-air interview that he has agreed to a contract extension.

This better be a low-risk contract.

Guess they weren’t gonna get a 2nd rounder and still wanted to get rid of him so they took whatever they could get? Either way, I think this is a solid and very underrated move by the Eagles. Easier and cheaper than Ray Edwards, and gives them another 3 down DE opposite of Trent Cole, which should take some pressure off of him.

    Okay, so whats the contract?
What the hell, this gave no new information at all.

This definitely favors the Eagles. Pete Carroll is proving his 2nd, er 3rd time around is the NFL is going to be just as “successful” this time around, too. Not to mention their fudgepacking, I mean cheesepacking GM, looking like a moron in this “fair” trade.

The trade makes virtually no sense.
A player and a 4th, you’re basically saying this guy is worth this year’s 3rd or better. He definitely hasn’t showed that.

Sucks for him, he needs to make a new twitter. He is dtapp55. Stew Bradley is #55. Or he could just force Bradley to give him the number by biting him

boobyk-Tapp had 4 years and couldn’t beat out marginal to bad talent on Hawks D-line. Carroll is coming in and seeing all the trash Ruskel left behind and cleaning it out. Hawks are in major rebuild mode and stock piling draft picks will go along way to helping them rebuild faster. Clemons for Tapp straight-up not so good, but throw in that extra 4th and they now have some added flexibility in the draft

Wow. 2 1/2 sacks last year. The Eagles stole this guy!! The right tackles in the NFC East are shaking in their shoes today.

Has anyone seen Philadelphiaeagles.com? Dave Spadaro makes this guy sound like Reggie White. The most sacks he had in 1 season is 7 and that was 3 years ago. He is supposed to take pressure off Trent Cole?

jgras – Spuds is a total fag who has never played a sport in his life. Sort of like the idiot on the air in the evening on WIP. Total tool!

I agree 100% with you VickIsNoQB!! Thanks. Did you happen to hear Spadaro when they re-signed Hank Baskett?? My God, I thought we signed Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson.

UM…..Tapp didnt CONFIRM he signed anything. He was on 97.5 the Fanatic in Philly last night and actually said he HAS NOT signed a any extension with the Eagles yet.
