Favre, Tomlinson spoke; had no bearing on LT's choice

Bob Glauber of Newsday reported on Monday that Brett Favre and LaDainian Tomlinson spoke on the phone during the Minnesota Vikings’ attempt to recruit Tomlinson to Minnesota.

Ed Werder of ESPN reported on Tuesday that they didn’t speak, and Favre only texted Tomlinson.

On a media conference call today, Glauber asked Tomlinson to clarify the matter, and Tomlinson confirmed that he did, in fact, talk to Favre. (Glauber noted Tomlinson’s confirmation on Twitter, although he was gracious enough not to call out Werder in his tweet.)

Tomlinson also said that he didn’t ask Favre whether he’s going to play in 2010, and that Favre’s status ultimately wasn’t a factor in Tomlinson’s decision making.

“I didn’t want to get into it, we just spoke,” Tomlinson said.

Asked directly whether the uncertainty surrounding Favre played a part in his decision, Tomlinson said,  “No, it didn’t. It really didn’t. Obviously, he had a great year last year and you’d think he would be coming back, but it had nothing to do with it.”

Ed Werder got it wrong… Nobody seen that coming..

    Glad we got that straight.

This is literally a non-story now, but you guys keep them coming. Nice work, PFT.

An ESPN analyst got something wrong?

On the eighth day, the Lord thy Farve spoketh to a minion, and he shuddered, and deemed the minion unworthy of thy Purple.

This makes perfect sense. I think Ego might actually be at work here. In Minnesota, LT would obviously be second fiddle to AP. Perhaps if Favre was definitely coming back, LT’s desire for a SuperBowl might have factored in. The reality of this situation is that LT gets to be a feature back behind an OL that produced a 1400 yard back in Thomas Jones. I’m betting that LT still thinks of himsef as far superior to TJ and that he can flourish in New York. Time will tell.

Ok, put this one to bed…NOW.
He went to the JETS because of more $ and a better chance of playing time….
    END OF STORY.

Does Ed Werder ever get anything right? It is “reporters” like him who do not bother with sources or the accuracy of information that keep BF’s name in the media and then the fans call Favre a “media whore”…….and what does that say about the average fan’s “intelligence”…about the same credibility as Ed Werder…..ZERO.

    poor LT. :sarcastic:
no one cares that he signed with the Jets, they just want to know what Favre’s up to.

    who cares let it be.

No bearing? Then why speak at all? How could it possibly NOT have a bearing? Favre (being the warm and fuzzy candid dude that he wants you to believe he is,) may have told LT to do whatever he thinks is best for himself, and didn’t give the dog-and-pony show the Vikings had hoped for. This Packer/Viking tit-for-tat may hold my interest until the 2010 seson begins after all. Brent is the champion of “all for one and one for all”….yeah right.

How in the hell does Ed still have a job, oh ya… He looks after the Cowboys all day long. We don’t need good reporting for that bunk squad. GONNA WIN IT ALL AGAIN COWBOYS LOL.

So LT chose the young QB who throws tons of picks over the old QB who throws tons of picks. Seems logical.

Ed Werder’s about as useful as tits on a bull; along with all the other hacks at ESPN! But you guys are right, non story!!

No effect on LT’s decision whatsoever.
    Right.
Because we all know Lord Favre O’Clock doesn’t do ANYTHING wrong.
    Game-deciding picks? Not HIS fault.
Total team dysfunction and locker-room schisms? Not HIS fault.
    Crybaby flip-flop jobs and media-whoring?
That’s all on us. And the media.
And all those genital warts Chilly hides under his moustache?
They were there before Bratt “came” along, too.
At least we all know the Hypequeens had their own glorious tradition of historical disappointments and epic, crushing FAILURES well BEFORE Lord Let-Down came around, right?
You still have your 0-4, Queens–no one can take that away from you.

Once again, Brett Favre is vilified for “supposedly” doing something.
Isn’t it really unreal all this stuff Brett Favre “does”, that really never happens? How naive and obtuse can we possibly be???
It borders on embarrassing because with all this access to information and ability to confirm or deny with nominal amounts of effort nowadays and we’re still buying hype and reporting crap.
    Mind-boggling.

  17. sand0 says: Mar 16, 2010 2:21 PM

Favre texted LT, man he has Chilly wrapped around his finger. These Green Bay chumps just get wimpier by the day. One year we embarrass their entire heritage. The next year they talk like they are getting last laugh over these stories. Cute, but no. We still own your asses at the present time.
Funny stuff. The kool-aid is strong across the border.
I am more referencing the posts in the previous Favre/LT non-stories and not necessarily this one specifically.

I thought this turd got flushed a long time ago.
He must be like the tip of a turd that breaks off and absolutely refuses to go down, even after the 3rd flush.
Then, you have to go thru the trouble to get your goldfish net out and scoop that bad boy out of there.
Then, when it crumbles when it hits the oxygen, you have to buy a new net.
    Yep, that’s dewey alright.

And I see you haven’t gotten over your fecal-philia, either.
Makes sense–Viking lover that you are.

lol, too funny. Favre can’t win for some people. Either he is “playing GM” and therefore is the devil, or is, and this is my favorite so far among the brain dead Favre haters “Favre (being the warm and fuzzy candid dude that he wants you to believe he is,) may have told LT to do whatever he thinks is best for himself, and didn’t give the dog-and-pony show the Vikings had hoped for.”
He just can’t win, Favre haters will say something whether he pees standing up or sitting down.
