Report: Favre told Tomlinson he has "no clue" if he'll retire

Yesterday we passed along a report that Brett Favre had been heavily involved in recruiting LaDainian Tomlinson to the Minnesota Vikings, suggesting that Favre plans to play in 2010 and wants Tomlinson as a teammate.

But a report out today says Favre told Tomlinson he doesn’t know if he’ll play or not.

Ed Werder of ESPN is reporting that Favre didn’t talk to Tomlinson at all, and only texted him to say he had “no clue” whether he would return to the Vikings.

And Werder also reports that Favre told Tomlinson, who ultimately chose to sign with the New York Jets, that both the Vikings and the Jets were good organizations where Tomlinson could have a good 2010 season.

According to Werder, the Vikings’ coaches asked Favre to get involved in recruiting Tomlinson, but Favre wasn’t as involved as the Vikings’ coaches wanted him to be, because Favre didn’t think it was right to ask Tomlinson to play for the Vikings until Favre himself knows if he’ll play for the Vikings. And that’s going to be a while.

  6. AWestcave says: Mar 16, 2010 10:38 AM

So Favre knows about as much as anyone else does as to whether he will play in 2010, or not?
    Pretty sure that’s not news…

  7. Hauschild says: Mar 16, 2010 10:39 AM

    CLASSIC!!!
Every single time you idiots post “reports” that Favre is somehow running the show behind the scenes, the truth eventually comes out that Favre ends up not even being remotely involved in anything. Isn’t that insanity, by definition – really??? Why do you people insist on ramming your heads into brick walls and then claim it doesn’t hurt????
Good Lord – there are gullible idiots in this world, and then there are sports journalists and fans.

Favre texting “I have no clue” could be for many things, not just his playing status.

This is a perfect example of how it is the media that keeps Favre’s name in the news and not BF himself. Whenever the media needs to get fans attention they throw out a release with BF’s name included and everyone right away thinks it’s BF being a media whore. Too bad so many redneck fans of football can’t figure that out like the rest of us have.

*Except throw an interception when it matters most, not make up his mind about whether he wants to play, costs his team a chance at LT and plays for the dumbest franchise in team sports.

The playoff choker is really fooling everyone isn`t he ?
I have a feeling he will begin to get a “clue” about 4 weeks into training camp. Favre will keep going with the “i`m not sure” until late August when all of a sudden he will have the urge to play again.

  19. Bucfs says: Mar 16, 2010 10:53 AM

We all know that he won’t make a decision until the bulk of the offseason activities are over, and by bulk I mean if he is gonna play he won’t show up until a few days before the 3rd preseason game.

  24. IALTO says: Mar 16, 2010 10:57 AM

  37. Ambrose says: Mar 16, 2010 11:09 AM

This is another example of why (most) Packer fans are glad he is gone. What kind of message does this send to his teammates, when they know..on top of everything else…that if he comes back, he will not be joining them through training camp? At what point do you say “enough.” The fact that the Packers drew a line in the sand and the Vikings haven’t even made it to the beach yet, speaks volumes about the damage this guy can cause, both on the field and off. Good luck with that.

  38. Pervy Harvin says: Mar 16, 2010 11:11 AM

  41. EMan says: Mar 16, 2010 11:15 AM

If this is true at all (which I do doubt a bit) here is the reason LT went to the Jets.
Without Favre the Vikings are far from the team they were last year and who would bet them into next years bowl with TJ throwing the ball…if getting a ring before I retire was my main objective and I was told “No idea” from the QB playing then I wouldn’t sign there either.

This info about Favre being “heavily involved in LDT’s recruitment” is also the same organization that extended a schmuck like Childress last season. Also liked Childress’ comment about “asking Brett if he feels that Albert Young is a good fallback option to AP.”
Who the H is running the show over there? Sure isn’t Childress or Spielman.
Contra calling Werder out is hilarious. All this site is are rumors and innuendo, and he’s questioning the validity of Werder’s report. I guess all those years of fan damage control for the Vikes are beginning to pay off.

Oh man, if he doesn’t let us know then he could be talked about all summer. Brett was probably thinking that the Vikings already have 1 awesome running back, what would they do with 2 of them? He won’t get noticed as much when he has to hand off the ball.

    Classic Bert Fav-re.
This will the be the fourth consecutive year that he has done the following:
    1. vascillate about retirement and effect his team’s drafting and free agency attempts.
    2. return after most of the hard pre-season work is done.
    3. lead the team to a winning record in the regular season.
    4. make a very poor throw to end that team’s year in the most disappointing manner possible.
In years past it was a different city and a different team, but the same story. This is how desperate Minny is to win the big one. Then again, 0-4 in the Super Bowl and not sniffing the big game since 1977 will do that.

Uh…OK. What was the Vikings record in 2008 without Favre. Oh yeah, 10-6, NFC North Division Champions and a home playoff game….with TJ at the helm.
2009 Vikings….NFC North Division Champions, first round bye, home playoff game, bonehead mistake in the NFC Championship game by a 19 year vet to send them home.
    Doesn’t sound all that different.

You can be good and still be a douche, just ask Kobe Bryant, and quit whining that game was over a month ago, if your gonna piss and moan about something how not knowing who your QB is gonna be. Favre didn’t choke in the NFC championship game. I’m not going to bother with the explanation because you fools are too dense and biased to get it anyways. Favre played fairly well on the road against a great team despite being beat up pretty good. The team overall played well but turnovers spoiled a 2:1 yardage domination and we got screwed by refs in OT.
I wouldn’t wish last season away. Never ever. It was awesome, heartbreaking finish and all. Just awesome.

Favre threw two crucial picks and had a part in one of the fumbles. Again, the last interception he threw………..I’ll go slow……..was the last pass be threw that game, in the most crucial time of the game, with 10 yards of free turf in front of him, with Berrian wide open in front of him, and did all this before throwing across his body, across the field and into the arms of a drolling D-back.

Yes, I wish all coaches put the desires of their players ahead of team results. Only the best managed teams in the league truly recognize that the way to greatness is NOT finding a scheme to maximize performance–it’s making your players happy.
    Nice try, Sheman.
    2008 defense: 20th overall, 380 points allowed
    2009 defense: 2nd overall, 297 points allowed
Probably the biggest turnaround in the league last season. I can’t speak for other Packers fans, but if that’s mismanagement, I’ll take another huge helping in 2010, please.
The Packers owed Aaron Kampman nothing. Absolutely nothing. He played well in the 4-3 and they paid him well. They switched to a 3-4 defense to improve the team and he struggled in it. I’m happy for him that he’s moved back to a 4-3, but I’m not sad at all to see him go.
