Report: Favre told Tomlinson he has “no clue” if he’ll retire

Yesterday we passed along a report that Brett Favre had been heavily involved in recruiting LaDainian Tomlinson to the Minnesota Vikings, suggesting that Favre plans to play in 2010 and wants Tomlinson as a teammate.

But a report out today says Favre told Tomlinson he doesn’t know if he’ll play or not.

Ed Werder of ESPN is reporting that Favre didn’t talk to Tomlinson at all, and only texted him to say he had “no clue” whether he would return to the Vikings.

And Werder also reports that Favre told Tomlinson, who ultimately chose to sign with the New York Jets, that both the Vikings and the Jets were good organizations where Tomlinson could have a good 2010 season.

According to Werder, the Vikings’ coaches asked Favre to get involved in recruiting Tomlinson, but Favre wasn’t as involved as the Vikings’ coaches wanted him to be, because Favre didn’t think it was right to ask Tomlinson to play for the Vikings until Favre himself knows if he’ll play for the Vikings. And that’s going to be a while.
