On Sunday, a lengthy item in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review regarding the Ben Roethlisberger case buried the most significant tidbits — that attorney Ed Garland finally had agreed to produce his client for an interview and a DNA sample.
Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that Roethlisberger flew to Georgia on Saturday to “cooperate” with the investigation. Per La Canfora, Roethlisberger and others who were with him on the evening that culminated in sexual assault charges answered questions from one or more representatives of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
It’s not clear whether that means he was merely interviewed, whether he gave a DNA sample, or both.
UPDATE: A source with knowledge of the situation that Roethlisberger went to Georgia only to meet with his lawyers, and that he did not speak to investigators.

Without a doubt Ben is dumb for putting himself in these ‘no helmet’ situations repeatedly.
But a guy in Ben’s position doesn’t need to impose himself on anyone. And all accounts I’ve read, suggest he’s a pretty cool and generous dude in the community.
Having to give a DNA sample suggests that this latest tramp snagged one of his pubes or bit off a mole or something, ran home and chucked it in a freezer bag, then dialed up some scumbag lawyer.
Ben, buy a video camera and turn it on every time a women comes around. It’s a win:win for you. You get to guarantee your innocence and build a porn library as you go. And when the inevitable gay rumor with Hines Ward arises, you’ll have prove that women really do give you Roethlisboners.

Ever read one of the occasional long PFT posts that provide actual information, you know the ones on legal or financial matters that drone on forever? Those bury “significant tidbits” in a mountain of verbiage also.
i just read on tmz that ben signed a new endorsement deal with toyota. the campaign’s hoping to revitalize both of their tarnished images. one of the taglines they are trying out is ‘you can count on us, we won’t stop even if you want us to ‘.
If he sexually assaulted that young lady, they ought to throw the book at him. And he should be treated like regular folks like us – don’t wait until the season is over to hold the trial just because he’s a professional athlete; try his butt as soon as possible. And if the evidence proves guilt, I hope he becomes close friends with a lot of muscular, horny dudes in prison.
On the other hand, be careful about allegations like this. I had a student who was accused of rape. As a result of the accusation, he was kicked out of the university (senior year), his name was all over the newspapers, and his reputation ruined. As it turned out, the girl only claimed rape because a few people (who knew her boyfriend) saw her and my student coming out of a room after having sex. The truth would’ve never come to light had another guy not revealed that she had sex with him LATER THAT SAME NIGHT. No apology from the university, and the female student’s name STILL was never released by the local press.
Lesson here – don’t rush to judgment, on either side, until all the facts are in.
