Fargas visiting New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints could be adding another running back.

WWL-TV is reporting that free agent running back Justin Fargas is in New Orleans for a visit with the Saints. The visit comes a day after restricted free agent running back Mike Bell, who played for the Saints last year, signed an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fargas was released by the Raiders, which means the Saints signing him would not be subject to the “final four” rule. The Raiders said Fargas failed a physical, but Fargas says he’s healthy enough to play. He also drew interest from the Chiefs, Browns and Eagles, but both the Browns and Eagles have reportedly decided not to make him an offer.

The 30-year old Fargas carried 129 times for 491 yards for the Raiders last year.

definitely a downgrade from bell, but maybe he’ll wear the correct cleats

looks like they may not match the Eagles offer for Mike Bell

The Raiders had doubts about his health. He claims he is in top shape. He visits 3 teams that want to see if they might sign him and after the visit they decide to move on. Maybe the Raiders hit it on the head with just how fit this guy is.

I wish the Saints would try and get Joey Porter. They will need linebacker help now that Charles Grant and Scott Fujita are gone.
Btw, I think letting go of Mike Bell for Justin Fargas is a mistake, but not a huge one.

it’s a sideways move. Bell lost his chance to stay with the Saints when he wore the wrong shoes…

In terms of heart and guts I would say hes a top 5 back in this league. Worth a look at and the minimum salary.
If he can pass a physical, I wouldnt mind having him on my roster, if nothing else to set a good example and play special teams.

    clintcooper,
Joey Porter is not a good fit here. He’s a 3-4 OLB and would be a liability in our 4-3 system and can be a cancer…
as 4 Fargas, he always was a hard runner who was stuck in that dumpster which is Oakland… A black and gold makeover would suit him fine…

Fargs is all heart. I wish we could transplant his heart into JaFatbut.
Too bad Fargas has “crash dummied” himself into the infirmary one too many times.

Now that I have seen Fargas’ stats, I’m liking him more. If he could have a season similar to the one he had two years ago, he would be a huge asset to the Saints’ offense. On top of this, I believe he only has two fumbles (lost) in his pro career.
I also think Lynell Hamilton is a decent runner, but it’s hard to get game time when you have to stand behind Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, and Mike Bell.
