Incognito gets one year deal from Dolphins

Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano like their offensive lines nasty and they are about to sign a player once voted the “dirtiest” in the NFL by his peers.

Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post says the Dolphins and Richie Incognito are finalizing a one-year contract.  Miami was looking to upgrade the guard position and Incognito provides versatility to play both spots.

The Bengals had Incognito in for a visit and the Colts spoke to him by phone.

UPDATE: Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald writes that it’s a one-year deal worth just over $1 million.  He could make just over $1.25 million with incentives. It’s a “prove it” deal.

He’s kind of big for a Safety isn’t he? ….oh, wait that’s right we don’t need one of those.
Actually I like this signing – with all the injuries to our guards that last 2 years. Plus he’s mean and nasty, just what Sporano & Parcells like in a lineman. Plus, we all know Miami is a run first team – this fits with that philosophy.

I don’t get it… The O-Line is the best unit on the team and we have 3 very good young guards in Smiley, Thomas, and Garner. Why add a player with the potential to upset the locker room, when we continue to ignore positions of need like OLB, NT, WR, TE???? Someone please help me understand

As long as the nastiness remains on the field, its a great signing. A one year deal is a show us you can keep your head deal, if he does, look for a nice extension. Long/Grove/Incognito makes for a nasty formidible line….Ronnie/Ricky/Chad must be smiling.

We needed this Depth. Our o-line was playing musical chairs halfway through the season.

Miami is moving away from this philosophy. Ronnie is injury prone and Ricky is reaching that burn-out point. (no pun intended…) Anyways I think Sparano and Co. have enough faith in Chad Henne to let him take this offense. He did some great thing last season (keeping in mind who he had to throw to) and hopefuly he contnues to improve under the wings of Chad Pennington. :)
If im not mistaked he had 2 or 3 300 yrd. games twards the end of the season. With our recieving corps that amazing.

Smiley never makes it through a whole year. There wasn’t enough depth at guard. Incognito has had on field issues but no locker room issues. By all reports the guy is enthusiastic. You cannot have enough good OL depth as we saw last year in the Panthers game.

You’re saying “great signing!” now, but wait until he starts costing you games with headbutts, late hit penalties, etc. I liked this guy coming out of college. Hell, I even liked him last year. And then he costs the Rams a game, OUR SECOND VICTORY OF THE SEASON SNATCHED AWAY. DIE IN A FIRE RICHIE. There’s a reason no good team (yes, I’m saying the Dolphins suck and will once again not be in the playoffs) even came close to this guy. Colts were even too scared to talk to him in person, they had to interview him over the phone!

He signed a one year contract. Who on the market do you propose we get at that age/price?

    Somewhere Conrad Dobler is smiling.

  15. KILLER FIN says: Mar 17, 2010 12:44 PM

Maybe he just needed a team & coach he might like playing for to make it work for him!!! who really wants to play for the Rams or the Bills??? REALLY???

  16. red13 says: Mar 17, 2010 12:51 PM

Good luck Miami. Just don’t say you weren’t warned – Richie is a walking personal foul waiting to happen. He will kill your team slowly in 15-yard chunks. Thing is, all the D-Linemen in the League know about his issues, and it doesn’t take much to bait him in, and once he starts, there’s no stopping him.

the front office will have this guy on a short leash…i love the signing. its all about risk and reward with parcells and co. same deal with P. White, it was a risk, didnt work out too well, but atleast were willing to take the risk.
    go phins

Jake Long, Justin Smiley, Jake Grove, Richie Incognito and Vernon Carey. WOW that oline is scary!!! Ronnie, Ricky, and Lex behind that line we might see for the first time ever 3 players over 1,000 yds on the same team!!!

    yo dont forget cobbs!!

  20. PureIgnorance says: Mar 18, 2010 11:52 AM

I love Ritchie and I’m pissed the Colts didnt get him. I hope he annihilates knee caps and achilles tendons in the AFC East!! Give em hell Big Rich!!

  21. lifelongphinfan says: Mar 19, 2010 2:01 PM

i believe it’s a good pick up. i also hope he has learned to not let opposing players get under his skin and with the likes of long, grove & carey to help direct his obvious passion for the game in the right direction he could be great. we shall see
