The rules governing this uncapped year has mostly been a downer for NFL veterans with four or five years of playing experience.
The flip side is that older players are doing better. The NFL noted Wednesday that there have been more signings of players with 6+ years of experience than any year since the CBA extension was signed in 2006. Here goes:
UFAs with 6+ accrued seasons signed, first 12 days of free agency
2010: 64
2009: 51
2008: 44
2007: 55
2006: 50
A lesser supply of young, quality players has helped out long-time veterans.
It will be interesting to see if teams swing and miss more than usual because they were forced into going after players past their prime.
Not beating you up, but in a year where no players of value with less than 6 years of service are available the point being made is more players over 6 years of service are being signed???
It would be interesting to see how many players with less than 6 years of service are typically signed and how much total contract money is typically dolled out to those guys.
Ultimately that’s the group that the NFLPA aren’t getting much money from.
