People who have serious drinking problems can drink anywhere they have access to alcohol … or vanilla extract … or kerosene … all of which they have in Green Bay and Mississippi. It’s a nice lil story, but Glanville got rid of Favre because he didn’t want him. And Favre cleaned up his act because Favre made the decision to do so.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. He can’t really believe he saved Favres career. Anyone who knows anything about Wisconsin knows that beer is a religion there. He sent Favre to beer-town and claims credit for what followed. On second thought maybe we can blame Glanville for all the INTs. Oh yeah, the Vikings did get away with tampering.

Let’s get a few facts straight:
1. Glanville is a widely-acknowledged fool, and never liked Favre from the day he was pressured to draft him by the Falcons’s owner;
2. That being the case (1), his story is simply a rationalization for what was a bad decision;
3. If the story were true, G. should have known that Green Bay isn’t the “little town” portrayed so stupidly by the “big city” (and small-minded) media clowns and fans. It simply does NOT “close down” at 9:00, as well testified by many past Packers greats;
4. There’s no “Chili Joes” in Green Bay, but there is a Chili Johns. (And isn’t it too bad G. never had the career opportunity of learning that first hand, hmm?)
5. Finally, when Favre goes into the Hall of Fame it will be primarily as a Packer since that is where he will have spent most of his career, where he will have played his best ball, and where he will have won his one Super Bowl ring. (Forget it, Crykings fans!)

Nice try Jerry…
Wisconsin ranks 7th in the nation in alcohol consumption including 1st in hard liquer. Georgia is 47th.
Anybody who lived within 30 miles of BF Steak House or Taylor’s in Milwaukee knows Brett was drunk 24/7 right up until his buddy’s hot tub incident when Dianna decided to put him on a VERY short leash.
Brett didn’t win because he had nothing else to do – He won because Ron wolf gave him a starting job, gave him the best QB coach in the game, and gave him the best defense in the NFL
but in defense of Jerry…
He got a 1st round pick for a 3rd round drunk of a QB.
Almost every GM in the league (and every blogger on this site) would have made that trade.
Where Jerry screwed up is using that pick on bust Tony Smith.

Glanville is trying to make himself more insightful than he really was. For starters, Glanville NEVER approved of Favre being drafted, so clearly he was NOT his guy. It also helps to “give up” on a guy who had a “problem” when the Packers offer you a 1st round pick (#19) in the ’92 draft for your 2nd round pick from a year before. Hmmm…oh by the way, the Falcons had a 26 yr old Chris Miller coming off his best year as a pro. Sure, it was Glanville’s foresight that got Favre to Green Bay.

They should never have hired Glanville as a head coach. Do you see him as a head coach today? Nope. Good reason for it too. The guy was more hype than Keyshawn Johnson and dropped the call coaching more than TO. He was, and apparently still is, a no class act that no one would want to follow. Whatever Brett Farve has done I can only point to where is he is now. And where is Mr. Glanville again?

This isn’t anything new. Even Brett Favre has stated that was one of the reasons.
What I find funny is, the worst place on Earth to send an alchoholic is Green Bay, WI. The entire culture here is all based around drinking, there is literally a liquor store or a bar on every block, and because it’s a dinky town, there is absolutely nothing to do here, but drink, which is why everyone is always drunk.
The tales of Brett Favre’s drunken escapades in DePere and all over the area are legendary in the 90′s. However, he cleaned all that up, and doesn’t booze it up with the boys anymore (which in the Jets locker room, makes you aloof and a prima donna)

Glanville probably is telling the truth that he traded Favre based more on character and not talent.
But it isn’t like he gets credit for curing him of his drinking problem by sending him to the heaviest binge drinking state in America.

Uh, no. Jerry Glanville once said that it would take a plane crash to get Favre into a game. There are stories of Favre and his partying ways at Southern Miss that make anything that Glanville said understatements. Even his teammates at Southern Miss will back up anything that Glanville or anyone else has ever said about Favre. It took him a while before he ever stopped his partying and if Atlanta hadn’t traded him or if Don Majkowski hadn’t gone down with an injury, he would drank himself out of the league. I’m not sure where some people were getting their news but I can guarantee you that Glanville has been just as candid about Favre long before this. You might ask the Falcons media guys because he let anyone know about HIS feelings about him and he didn’t try to cover up his problems like Ryan did with Carter (“He only catches TDs”).
