McShay: "50-50 chance" Bradford goes first overall

Since Jake Locker doesn’t look likely to go first overall, ESPN draft guru Todd McShay is starting to think someone else will: Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford.  McShay says there’s a “50-50 chance” the Rams will take Bradford.

That prediction isn’t surprising, but it would have been a month ago.  And it makes McShay’s colleague Adam Schefter look pretty wise.

“I would like to record something here, on February 24th . . . ” Schefter said.  “All of a sudden — it’ll be about a month from now — we’ll start
hearing, ‘Wow.  Would and could the Rams take with the number one
overall pick Sam Bradford
?”

Schefter was wrong in one respect.  It didn’t even take a month for the tide to turn.

“I notice that Sam Bradford is not in their top five,” Schefter said of Kiper and
McShay’s Mocks back then.  “I can promise you that’s wrong.  I can promise you that’s
wrong.”

Well, Bradford is in their top-five now.  And Schefter’s comments that sounded so surprising a few weeks ago are now accepted as conventional wisdom.

That says a lot about the groupthink, guesswork, and superficiality that defines a lot of draft coverage.

McShay is a douche. His job is to criticize college players by telling them what they can’t do.

McShay is a douche. He makes ridiculous mocks, then once the real draft gurus (Mayock, Kiper) put out their thoughts/mocks, he copies them.

About a month ago, McShay was absolutely convinced that the #1 pick would be a DT, he didn’t even have Bradford in the Top 5, and he had Clausen going in the 2nd round.
    Idiot.

“McDolphinatic:” 50-50 chance” Bradford goes down first overall”. Thats right I said it. I haven’t seen a shoulder made of thinner glass since Rockin Ron Paulus. Bradford has it all except enough calcium in his diet. If, and thats a big IF, he can stay healthy than he will be very good. I just dont think he can take the hits. I think Sam is short for Samantha in this case.

This still doesnt prove anything other than NFL teams will try to do anything to sike out other teams. Remember the draft still hasn’t happened. The projections changed, just the projections. Not the actual picks, so settle down. Your giving props for the projections of projections. Does that seem logical to anyone else?

    McShay is a douche.

Must suck to have to pass up the best DL we’ve seen in some time, to go with a QB that wouldn’t be a second rounder most years. It appears the road to the ‘bowl is back through Seattle!

    Isn’t everything a 50/50 chance?
It either happens or it doesn’t. Its all 50/50.
Way to go out on the ledge there McShay…

Of course it’s 50-50. He either does or he doesn’t.

The only guy I listen to is Mike Mayock. The ONLY guy. I also find it funny that Schefter makes that projection and now everyone is saying it. I bet he could have said any middle-round guy and it would have become fact. All these experts see someone else say it and don’t want to be the one who doesn’t go along with it so they jump on board. Weak sauce.

50 – 50 chance ? Brilliant ! Any idiot can come up with that. The problem with these “draft experts” is they really only have a viable job for 4 weeks but they’ve managed to convince somebody that their job is relevent all year long. Does anybody really care what McShay has to say ? No !! Its nothing more than ESPN’s non stop, worthless, less than newsworthy dribble. The only good thing about MacShay is that we don’t have to listen to or watch NBA highlights.

    Isn’t everything 50 / 50 ???

Kiper is a douche, a giant douche. McShay is a baby douche.

  15. soonergiants says: Mar 18, 2010 6:39 PM

To SeeUIntheSuper Bowl: Bradford was projected as the First Overall pick last year so I am not sure how you can say in most years he would be a 2nd rounder.
Why does everyone insist that McShay is a douche? B/C he gets paid to predict college football players draft status? Sounds like jealousy to me!
Don’t be jealous of McShay fellows, thats a female trait!

Schefter is the smartest NFL insider out there. No big surprise here.

“That says a lot about the groupthink, guesswork, and superficiality that defines a lot of draft coverage.”
Hmmmm…..it might also say something about how free agency played out over the past few weeks. It might also speak to the results of medical tests on a certain someone’s shoulder.
The truth is that none of us know for certain what will happen until the Commish walks up to the podium. There is a “50 percent chance” that Bradford’s name will NOT be called.

Wow, is this the first time Adam Schefer has ever been right? ha ha ha

  20. aious says: Mar 18, 2010 8:31 PM

What can of freakin prediction is this?
Well, he may go…but he may not
Absolutely brilliant. Thank god ESPN pays you money for that!

  21. scfan says: Mar 18, 2010 8:53 PM

Umm … I will guarantee Jake Locker won’t go first overall this year … mainly because he did not declare for the draft.

    Oh my God people. Listen.
This is no great feat of intelligence to say they will take a Qb, and Shefter is no mental wizard here.
They have an unsettled Quarterback situation.
They are sitting on their pick of franchise Quarterbacks.
They have recently passed on franchise Quarterbacks.
You have the best chance of winning with a great Quarterback.
    THEY’RE NOT TAKING A @$#%*&% DEFENSIVE TACKLE!
Why does one have to virtually yell in post to get people to use that lump three feet above your rear end to realize they will take a Quarterback.
    I weep for our future.

  23. Wick says: Mar 19, 2010 1:39 AM

Schefter is very very good at what he does.
    So is Mayock.
What they do has some crossover but it is certainly not identical (as some seem to think) —- and they’re each exceptionally superior to their peers in what they do.
Both those cats are very solid.

  24. overkil2 says: Mar 19, 2010 9:30 AM

Mayock runs circles around McShay and Kiper.
    Scheftner is good as well.
