Report: McCloughan is out in San Francisco

With five weeks to go until the launch of the 2010 draft, the San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with their General Manager.

Nancy Gay of FanHouse reports that which was becoming increasingly obvious — the Niners have cut ties with Scot McCloughan.

I’m fine and moving forward,” he told Gay via text message on Thursday morning.

Per Gay, the separation was the result of a “personal matter,” and it came by “mutual agreement.”  (Early this morning/late last night, McCloughan’s agent said that the third-year G.M. would not be resigning.)

Coach Mike Singletary, who stands to gain power as a result of the departure, reportedly was not involved in the decision-making process.

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that director of player personnel Trent Baalke is expected to assume many of McCloughan’s duties.  (Perhaps the remainder will be filled by Baalke’s “Cousin Larry.”  And after the draft, maybe they can do “The Dance of Joy.”)

McCloughan clearly slept with someone he wasn’t supposed to.

    Directionless organization starts over, again.
Good luck getting the voters to approve Santa Clara while there is 20% unemployment. Pipe dream.
    Hello LA or Oakland.
As a niner hater, I would love the Yorks to keep ownership forever.

  4. robertamberg says: Mar 18, 2010 3:36 PM

Everyone in SF wants to know why. Hope PFT digs hard for details.

  6. TheInconvenientTruth says: Mar 18, 2010 3:42 PM

SF gettin a QB !!GM and Coach didnt see Eye to eye . SF gonna smash oakland week 6 in SF Bi**hes. Look for Mike Sing to put his signiture on this years draft. we were an addai td pass and farve miracle away from 10-6. playoffs . Sour raiders fans worry bout your own team. thanks for Crabtree $48 rec. 695 yards , DHBust 9 rec. 124 yards Thanks Money gone. Lets go Coach !!!!

  7. CP21 says: Mar 18, 2010 3:45 PM

Considering Singletary didn’t want to draft Willis and McCloughan, is the one who pushed for Willis…. This might not be a good thing!

  8. tombrookshire says: Mar 18, 2010 3:45 PM

If he quit, he wouldn’t be eligible to collect his $400 per week unemployment benefits.

  9. TheInconvenientTruth says: Mar 18, 2010 3:47 PM

You ingnorant bums sound like dicksmokers , we went 8-8 like saints year b4 superbowl. we got a top 10 defense, everyone knows we are a qb away from a great franchise. we defninetly up and coming. spicoli your a bum

  10. AZ Red Bird says: Mar 18, 2010 3:47 PM

Hand it all to Singletary….you oafs.
You think the one meat head can cure all your ailes.
Once again Singletary will run his team hard and fast in training camp and they’ll come out strong….then fade fade away….the body just can’t keep up with what he does….
After the Cards win the division again and Leinart gets his groove back…the 9ers fans can enjoy 8-8 seasons from their over priced tickets.

JSpicoli- and as a Raider Hater I would love for Al Davis to live another 100 years.
Big mistake by the Yorks, like father like son

  15. JSpicoli says: Mar 18, 2010 4:02 PM

8-8 in the worst division in football, by far.
You couldn’t even beat SEA twice.
Singlepoop is horrible coach. do you watch the games? Clock management 101 should be hi s summer school assignment, as well as play calling.

  16. JSpicoli says: Mar 18, 2010 4:04 PM

I’m glad the brain dead in the crowd have some stats to cling to. They wouldn’t know what to do with out numbers.
Watch the games. The niners suck.

  17. AZsuckz says: Mar 18, 2010 4:05 PM

    @AZ Red Bird
Hey duncecap, your defense is a shell of its former self. You have only 1 good receiver now and 2 receivers who overachieved since every DB focused on 11 and 81.
Were you even a Tards fan before 2008? Because this is your cheap ass owner returning to his successful pre-2008 ways of not paying his players. Have fun watching the Niners in the playoffs next year.

  18. HellsGrimTyrant says: Mar 18, 2010 4:07 PM

Honestly I have no idea how to read the niners. They could be terrible, they could be awesome, they could suck and still win the division. The NFC west has been flirting with sending a team into the playoffs with a a below .500 record for some time now. With Leinart now starting (for now) in Arizona, the Rams and Seahawks rebuilding, and SF one Frank Gore injury away from being lousy again could we see the first 7-9 team in the playoffs? Maybe the first 6-10?

  19. OscarMooseFarmer says: Mar 18, 2010 4:07 PM

team of fake promises and unfulfilled expectations EVERY YEAR! Local media hypes them up every year and they still cant win in the WORST DIVISION IN THE NFL!!!!

    @CP21
You are full of shit. Either find a source for what you said or shut up because that is totally made up.
Its funny how many people bashed the Niners and Mcl and when he gets fired everyone is saying its a horrible move. Can’t have it both ways.

  24. Merton Hanks says: Mar 18, 2010 4:36 PM

Az Red Bird – Lienart can’t get his groove “back” if it was never there
Spicoli – it’s very entertaining to watch you get so mad that you can’t even type correctly. Here’s another stat: 5 rings. Looking forward to the raiders coming over to the Stick this year. Should be a fun game.

  25. bigrig says: Mar 18, 2010 4:53 PM

I love the 9er, Raider, and Cardinal fans arguing over which team has the worst ownership.
It’s a little like trying to decide the greatest stooge between Moe, Larry, and Curly.

  26. JSpicoli says: Mar 18, 2010 5:06 PM

    Ok spell checker.
    Mad? Lol
the truth stings, and Pitt has 6. That number must just curdle your wine and cheese.

Bill Walsh , part of the Al Davis tree (gave him his first pro job)
Despite an embargo by the NFL on Raider HOF entrants, more Raiders in the hall than whiners.
More history , more recent success, despite an abominable 7 years.
Go to a SB this century and you can talk.
Your last SB, 1995–tainted by convictions for salary cap cheating by your “messiah” a convicted felon.

  28. JSpicoli says: Mar 18, 2010 5:24 PM

By the stick do you mean that piece of slop antique situated in the mud bogs of south SF? Looking forward to it, maybe Grammy and grandpa will stay past halfime, if they don’t giv their tickets away

  29. Merton Hanks says: Mar 18, 2010 5:25 PM

Yes, I was upset when Pittsburgh passed us. How many does your team have, little boy?
Also, how does wine and cheese curdle? I’d ask you to enlighten me, but there’s zero doubt in my mind that you don’t have the ability.

  30. SFrancis1680 says: Mar 18, 2010 6:00 PM

why couldn’t he leave sooner when Mike Holmgren was still available?

  31. Merton Hanks says: Mar 18, 2010 6:16 PM

Oh! Awesome argument. “You guys go to the Super Bowl and lose, and then we can talk.”
And recent success? What was the raiders’ record last year?

  32. ninerfan5 says: Mar 18, 2010 7:50 PM

    JSpicoli…
i dont know the exact numbers on how many hof players each team has, but at the end of the day, its not about who has more hof players, but who wins the games! and the most important game to win is the super bowl, and i believe we have more then you guys! yes we have 5, and you guys have 3… 5-3=2… i apologize to all the raider fans for using such big numbers!!!

  33. JimboSlice925 says: Mar 18, 2010 9:07 PM

Gotta love the typical Raider fan comments. Worst fans in pro sports! Go to a superbowl this century? That makes your team better? You guys cant even watch your home games. The Raider Nation Can’t sell more then 40,000 seats a game? Thats what you averaged last year. Lowest in the NFL. Your team is a joke. More History? Really? 5 trophys > 3 trophys. O, but your team did move a few times so you lead us in that department. And its not about the last time going to a superbowl, its about the last time winning one. I’m not even saying the Niners are a good team. But the Niners are better than the Raiders in every aspect and have been for about thirty years now. Sell out a home game. Be televised. Raise your IQ a few points then you guys can talk. Have fun with that circus of a team you have

The Dorks are great. Don’t ever think Raider fans will allow the speedo wearing fruits from Frisco to ever enter their venue.
We would burn it down -before we let the Pinkies play on our field.
Los Angeles will be the next home to Jed Clampetts 49ers.

  35. RaiderhateR4Life says: Mar 19, 2010 3:19 PM

JSpicoli (aka typical raider scum)- look at the overall picture Niners have the highest Superbowl winning percentage with a 5-0 record. Sure the raiders have been to 8, but they’ve lost more than half of them, if you’re happy with getting there and losing stay on yourside of the bay because this side strives on winning. Wanna talk salary cap? Last I checked Eddie D paid his players to win, mean time Old Al over there throws his bank account at players so they can be the laughing stock of the league. Face it Raiders have nothing on the Niners
