McCloughan vows to return and succeed

The circumstances surrounding his status with the San Francisco 49ers continue to be shrouded in mystery and uncertainty. On Friday, former G.M. Scot McCloughan addressed the situation for the first time.

He provided the following quote to Adam Schein of Sirius NFL Radio, which was provided to us via e-mail by the good folks at Sirius XM: “Family needs to come first and I lost sight of that with my position at the 49ers. I will be back in [the] league at some point and be very successful.”

McCloughan also tells Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News (via Mike Sando of ESPN.com) that McCloughan had a “great run” with the 49ers, and that the players he acquired “will win [the] division for [the] next couple of years.”

Kawakami also theorizes that McCloughan is leaving the 49ers and won’t be returning, despite reports of an “extended leave of absence.”
