Pacman pulls out of workout

Free-agent cornerback Pacman Jones had planned to work out for any interested scouts on Friday, upon completion of the Tulane Pro Day.

And in a development that would be surprising only if it came from any other player in the history of organized sports, Pacman didn’t show up.

According to James Varney (no, he’s not the “Vern” guy) of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Jones didn’t show — and no reason for his absence was given.

Jones’ agent supposedly arrived in New Orleans as Tulane players were being put through the paces, with Saints assistant coaches and Texans and Chiefs scouts in attendance.

On Thursday, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reported that Jones would be meeting with the Lions before the workout.  So it’s possible that the Lions opted to merely sign him to a contract.

It would be surprising only if it came from any other team in the history of organized sports.

UPDATE:  Rosenthal, who is in New Orleans, says he’ll be hitting the
Bourbon Street strip clubs to see if he can find Pacman celebrating the fact he has signed with an NFL team.  (Hopefully, Rosenthal has his “McLovin” I.D.)

SECOND UPDATE:  Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that, contrary to the guy who isn’t the “Vern” guy, Jones is working out.

Two things: Millen is gone, and you’re a tool.

  7. brooks07 says: Mar 19, 2010 4:41 PM

With the exception of maybe Maurice Clarett, has any player gone out of his way to hurt his career/life more than this guy? He’s like the Jake LaMotta of football… Such a waste of talent.

actually it WOULD be surprising considering Ford doesnt like to sign players with a troubled past. Florio is such a douchebag, always gotta say something stupid.

  10. GovtMinion says: Mar 19, 2010 4:43 PM

One last chance to make it in the NFL, one he really doesn’t deserve but got anyway… and he doesn’t show up?
There aren’t many people on this planet I truly wish misery upon, but Pacman deserves every bit of misery he heaps upon himself.

  11. WP says: Mar 19, 2010 4:44 PM

If the Lions did sign him unfortunately he would become their best corner.

    “Pacman pulls out”
If only Antonio Cromartie had utilized this approach…

This guy needs some serious help. Over and over it’s like he says “What’s the worst thing I could do to eff up my life and career today?” and then proceeds to go ahead and do just that. Very sad.
And if the Lions did happen to sign him to a contract without seeing him work out, very sad for them and they would deserve what they (don’t) get.

Pacman ‘pulls out’……..that’s what she said.

    Rosenthal likes girls ? Who’d a thunk it ?
Yeah, go Lions in your endeavor to be a black hole of suck once again.

Sad part is, the pimp automatically becomes Detroit’s best corner.
    Holla!

You clearly have forgotten about the Oakland Raiders.
The only thing more annoying than the running “joke” about Florio in the booth with Paul Allen is the running “joke” about Rosenthal looking “young”. For Christ’s sake, stick with football.

Pacman does love his scrip clubs!

  19. Yak says: Mar 19, 2010 5:00 PM

Hey WarrenMoonGOAT, you comment is not that great. If he puts on a performance like Dallas he’ll never play in the NFL again? WTF?!?! He got some guy paralized and has been a POS all his life. He shouldn’t even have gotten the chance with the Cowgirls!! He’s a no talent, turd nuget, ass clown who should be in jail….not the NFL. I can’t even believe he would “host” a workout for any team. If the Detroit “Pussy Cats” sign this guy, it will make me wonder if Matt Millen is back in charge.
Hey all NFL teams, JUST SAY NO TO PACMAN!!!

  21. Xpensive Wino says: Mar 19, 2010 5:00 PM

No, no, no, He’s looking in the wrong places. He needs to go to the “scrip” clubs.

  22. sugarlips says: Mar 19, 2010 5:02 PM

He obviously hasn’t changed a bit. PacMan get the hell out of our city and the next time you set up an imaginary workout…do it somewhere else please.

  23. Poo Flinging Monkey says: Mar 19, 2010 5:03 PM

    Too bad Pacman’s Dad didn’t.

  24. ScottieD23 says: Mar 19, 2010 5:04 PM

If he did sign with Detroit, I would have to think there is a kill pill clause to void the contract when he does his norm. I am hoping it is league minimum.
