Pacman pulls out of workout

Free-agent cornerback Pacman Jones had planned to work out for any interested scouts on Friday, upon completion of the Tulane Pro Day.

And in a development that would be surprising only if it came from any other player in the history of organized sports, Pacman didn’t show up.

According to James Varney (no, he’s not the “Vern” guy) of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Jones didn’t show -- and no reason for his absence was given.

Jones’ agent supposedly arrived in New Orleans as Tulane players were being put through the paces, with Saints assistant coaches and Texans and Chiefs scouts in attendance.

On Thursday, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reported that Jones would be meeting with the Lions before the workout. So it’s possible that the Lions opted to merely sign him to a contract.

It would be surprising only if it came from any other team in the history of organized sports.

UPDATE: Rosenthal, who is in New Orleans, says he’ll be hitting the Bourbon Street strip clubs to see if he can find Pacman celebrating the fact he has signed with an NFL team. (Hopefully, Rosenthal has his “McLovin” I.D.)

SECOND UPDATE: Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that, contrary to the guy who isn’t the “Vern” guy, Jones is working out.
