The annual league meetings open today in Orlando. The three-plus-day session features much more than ownership get-togethers; every coach, G.M., and other key executive will be attending all or part of the event.
It therefore provides the optimal offseason oasis for getting deals done between franchises. And with three quarterbacks entering the final year of their respective contracts, the Eagles are the team that everyone will be watching.
As Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer points out, the team’s entire power structure will be at the Ritz-Carlton — owner Jeffrey Lurie, coach Andy Reid, president Joe Banner, and G.M. Howie Roseman. The Eagles have been sending out mixed signals regarding the availability of 11-year veteran Donovan McNabb, publicly claiming that McNabb isn’t available but privately listening, presumably waiting for someone to make them an offer they can’t refuse.
It’s a delicate balance, one which the Eagles have been managing for two-plus months. And we’ll continue to believe that McNabb is available, unless and until the team signs him to a new deal — or trades his current backup, Kevin Kolb.
Whether it’s McNabb, Kolb, Mike Vick or some combination of the trio, the Eagles likely will be getting more feelers over the next few days. Whether it results in a transaction remains to be seen.
Why would you assume they’d deal Kolb and keep Dawgkilla on the roster? Oh wait, I forgot that a washed-up, has-been, convicted felon joke of a QB who was severely overrated before prison due to a complete lack of any kind of passing ability isn’t exactly in high demand. My bad.
I am more sick of hearing about the Eagles 3 qb than I ever have been with the deluge of Farve stories written over the last 18 months. Please Mr Banner make them do something so we all can get back hearing about whether Farve will or will not come back.
so far theyve gotten rid of, quite literally, everyone over 30. the only exceptions are mcnabb and trotter and, lets face it, were getting down to the wire on linebackers with spoon gone. it only makes sense that mcnabb and vick are next because they are seriously lacking and we have the depth and picks to compensate for the loss. unless kolb was only fooling us with a dynomite performance against the saints SUPERBOWL WINNING DEFENSE.
and, lest we forget:
*queue the vick hate speeches*
The Eagles have a happy problem …too much offense. trade one of the qb’s for a running back to replace Westy or get one in the draft..
Howie Roseman as part of the ‘power structure’? Roseman is to Reid/Banner what Fredo was to Sonny/Michael.
If the meetings regarding McNabb are private, how do you know they are even having those meetings, I know, the sister who cooks for a place near the Eagle’s office who has a cousin who has a friend who knows somebody somewhere overhead this comment and passed it on to all the “insiders” and guess which site was dumb enough to post it?
“The Eagles have been sending out mixed signals regarding the availability of 11-year veteran Donovan McNabb, publicly claiming that McNabb isn’t available but privately listening, presumably waiting for someone to make them an offer they can’t refuse.”
Well, duh. Even the Colts should be listening to offers for Peyton. If Al Davis wants to give you the entirety of his next 3 drafts, you take the deal.
Ever get the impression Andy Reid will do anything to avoid addressing his complete lack of skill in the last two minutes of a half/game?

You need to wake up from whatever fairy tale you are dreaming about.
Mike Vick & McNabb has what the “The Great Hope” Kolb will never have – Multiple pro bowls and Championship Game experience.
Andy Reid did not bring Mike Vick to Philly out of the goodness of his heart. He has been in love with Vick since day 1!
McNabb was a more mobile quarterback before injuries and Reid loves quarterbacks who can bring more to the table than just a big slow guy that throws the ball to talented black receivers who bail you out because you have the foot speed of a 3-legged tortoise.
Kolb will join the likes of…………..
- Seneca Wallace
- Derek Anderson
- Brady Quinn
- Shaun Hill
- Jay Cutler
- Jake Delhomme
etc, etc, etc………………
After Brady, Manning, Favre & Brees is phased out, the league is heading down the same road after Larry Bird in the NBA…………….
“The Black Quarterback” – The Future Of The NFL………………..
Deal with it guys, just like the NBA, it’s a done deal.
Sorry guys but NFL classic will be the future of the immobile quarterbacks………..
HA HA HA
MAYBE, just maybe the rest of the league is SMARTER than the Eagles on this one… all 3 QBs are in the last years of their contracts, …they want a #2 for Vick, GOOD LUCK w/THAT, how does ANY GM explain giving uo a #2 for Vick when they could have had him last year for NOTHING?…as for McNabb, just wait until next year and he can be a free agent, Eagles asking price for him starts w/ a #1, any GM who watched those last two games against Dallas isn’t going to do that for a QB, who as Mike Holmgren says once he’s lost his legs, he’s done, …IF the Eagles franchise him, w/Manning, & Brady looking at getting new deals, one can only imagine what the franchise number will be next year for a franchise QB…Andys reluctance to turn this over to Kolb makes me wonder IF he’s really much further along than the QBs coming out in this draft, Bradford, Clausen, McCoy
I think more credit has to be given to the other 31 teams who are quite aware of the QB situation in Philly and look at it as a “buyer’s market”. A couple of months ago there was a very small window of opportunity for the Eagles to establish the selling price but no one bit on the charade and it has now become a situation of just trying to get “something” for McNabb. No other team wants Vick unless it would be for the absolute minimum, Kolb is the Eagles QB of the future and all the Eagles posturing isn’t going to change the final outcome. The Eagles would be lucky to get a 2nd rd pick for McNabb and more than likely only a 3rd rounder.
unless kolb was only fooling us with a dynomite performance against the saints SUPERBOWL WINNING DEFENSE.
DynAmite?
Got news for ya Hoobs,
I don’t give a damn how many yards he throws for or how many completions he has ….if you turn over the ball THREE times, two of which resulted in 14 points, one of which returned directly for 7 of them, you DID NOT have a “dynomite” game.
While this kid has promise, there’s going to be growing pains with him (ie…turnovers, mistakes).
He might be able to throw that slant on time, but he also has shown multiple times to make that absolutely awful decision.
I’m not saying he’s “fooling” us, but he hasn’t thrown pass one against any team in this division and only one team in this conference.
This is going to be an ongoing process.
Be careful what you wish for……
“publicly claiming that McNabb isn’t available but privately listening, presumably waiting for someone to make them an offer they can’t refuse.”
& I presume there’s a reason that this same “poo against the wall” strategy by Florio smells the same as my bathroom the morning after I eat the Burrito Grande from El Azteca
wow the eagles r gonna be scary good this year. a few upgrades on the defensive side of the ball and this team should……could be stellar. I’m excited to see what Sean is gonna do with the defense in his 2nd year. GO BIRDS!!
A normal Day at PFT:
1. Roethlisberger Story
2. Oversensationalized Eagles QB story
3. News and notes from atound the league
And by the time that training camp starts, you can add Brett Favre story to that list
Just Do Sumthin Already Mr. Banner..You’re killin me smalls..
With the way the cuts have been going, my gut tells me the team is resolved to take a down year for “rebuilding”.
Was Witherspoon worth $5mil a year? No. Is he way better than Gocong? Hell yeah.
Darren Howard, who “only” managed 22.5 sacks in his time with the Eagles, had 16.5 of those in the last two seasons, and considering he shares time at DE with 3 other guys and is mainly used in the nickel, that’s not friggin bad at all.
Shawn Andrews. HUGE disappointment.
Curtis I can understand. He wasn’t worth the money at all. He’d make a good slot man, but I’d take Avant over him.
BWest.
Of course Dawk last year.
The rumor that Sheldon Brown is on the block (this year and last year).
Which as you follow down the green brick road, you really have to look at what all those guys save Andrews have in common. The big three O. Sure it’s a bit different for QB’s, but my gut tells me it’s Donovan who is being shopped. Kolb is off limits IMO. This is the Eagles we are talking about. The pieces of the puzzle include Kolb.
On that note however – this is the Eagles we are talking about. And if I know the Eagles, they are overvaluing the poo out of McNabb right now. I love McNabb and always have, but I can admit that he’s not in the class of Brady, Manning Brees (and not just because of the SB thing, fans who watch all 16 every season know what I mean by this). But you have to know that Banner/Reid are holding out for a 1st ++ right now, and will continue to do so. There doesn’t seem to be much compromise with the birds FO. Lito – we ended up getting what, a 5th and a 4th? If we would have traded him and not been stubborn we could have gotten at least a 2nd back in 2008 IMO. Six teams called about Hank Baskett before cut day last year…what happened? They held out, and ended up just outright releasing him. Etc etc you get the picture.
If Donny is going anywhere, for his sake, not the Eagles’, I’d like to see him go to the Vikings or the 49ers. Favre is probably coming back however, so I guess the 9ers. But the Eagles will want one of their firsts, which the higher one is still pretty low.
SO, in the end, Donny will probably just walk next March, and we’ll miss out on a 1st rnd prospect….*sigh*, damn Eagles.
So much talk for 3 Qb’s that nobody wants…. They’ll be luck if they get a 3rd for Kolb, a can of beans for Vick, and possibly a 2nd for McNabb.. Unless Pete Carrol get’s involved, then it’s 3 1st rounders for everyone
i am the only eagles fan that doesn’t care which of these qbs stays or goes. i believe they all have great talent. mcnabb guarantees us to be competitive. kolb did show great promise being the only qb in nfl history to throw for 300 yards in his first two starts. as far as i’m concerned, putting vick under center (or basically shotgun) makes us a completely different team and forces andy to start basing his team around the talent of his players as opposed to forcing them to do things that aren’t great at. RUN THE BALL. jason peters, winston justice, todd herremans…they are all better run blockers..so we’ll pass 80 percent of the game. that makes perfect sense. i’ll take any of these qbs, get rid of joe, and jeff. they’re in it for the business, not for championships. damn scumbags.
p.s.- we could really use a safety, a linebacker or 2, and a 3 down defensive end. what happened to going after ray edwards? why didn’t we take a shot a kameron wimbley? i’ll be an eagles fan til the day i die, but i’ll never be a joe banner or jeffrey lurie fan, EVER.
@ SFrancis1680
“Andys reluctance to turn this over to Kolb makes me wonder IF he’s really much further along than the QBs coming out in this draft, Bradford, Clausen, McCoy”
My man, if you have to even consider this or ponder the answer, it is more of a demonstration or how little you know about football talent than it is about Reid’s so called “reluctance” to turn this team over to Kolb…
Just think about this…if you make Kolb the starter, publicly, what message are you sending about McNabb and what do you think this does for trade value…come on now, it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out…
I love how everyone forms biased conclusions based on their own wants or uneducated know nothing football prowess…Reid has a strong track record and has been the model for a lot of other teams in this league…but still, the couch-potatoes sitting around with a cold one in their hand must know more than Reid… unreal!
And I’ll beat you all to the punch, just in case any of you knuckle heads want to reply with stupid finger pointing…I guess you’ll start talking about what few “bad” moves Andy has made…sure talk about them, after all hindsight is always 20-20… it’s easy to know it all after it happens!!!
I believe and understand that there are going to be growing pains with Kolb, and thats understandable. Its all part of the learning curve. Its not that they are reluctant to turn the team over to him, its just Andy being loyal to his guy that has been his QB since he’s been coaching this team. If the deal is right McNabb will be gone, especially if the rest of the front office likes the deal as well.

You can add morons like you that have nothing of any substance to add to the conversation other than letting us all know what kind of douche you really are!!! But hell, keep up the good work kid…after all your obviously the main man here…some peoples kid!?
O-yea, and maybe you should brush up on your spelling before you start busting balls about this site… “Oversensationalized” it’s two words champ! Over sensationalized…
Most of the people who are writing under this “headline” are some of the most stupid human beings I have ever had to read. Most of you should seriously consider suicide and if nothing else stop pretending you know anything about football. Just stop and do something else with your worthless lives!
@Eaglesman
What the hell are you talking about? It’s called called a typo you piece of sh*t. “O-yea”. And as an Eagles fan I get sick of hearing these Eagles QB stories. every single day. If you want to hear about the make believe drama that seemingly happens every single day involving the Eagles QBs, then by all means go for it. I just think there’s no substance to these articles which all say the same thing. Basically every day it’s “Teams will probably be interested in the Eagles’ QBs, and trade talks will heat up. We don’t know if a trade will happen, though.” No new information.
Kolb will not get traded. Mcnabb or Vick might. Some of these teams signing guys like Carr and Whitehurst over getting Mcnabb, I don’t know what they are doing….some really poor choices at QB. Mcnabb may not be great, but he is a lot better than Brady Quinn’s of the world.
To Mr. Annuvin, please remind me again how many black mobile QB’s have won the superbowl? Oh yeah, NONE!
really Eaglesman? what kind of trade value does he have now? a #1? when holmgren talks about him being done, when he loses his legs, it’s funny to listen to people on 610 WIP wonder WHY SF or Seattle haven’t offered a #1 for him, since both teams have 2 #1s. mcnabbs trade value is in watching his last two games against Dallas, but since you think you’re smart enough to know that this is about his trade value, keep him in Philly this year, as your starter, and see how that works out for you. another thing, COMPARING him to bradford, clausen & mccoy is COMPARING him to the top QBs in this draft, and basically saying that as far as game exp. goes, kolbs not much further along than those QBs, if he doesn’t get his chance to play. we know MORE about mark sanchez than we do about kolb, but because andy says something, it must be true, right? continue to worship at andys feet, right next to eskin
Now we all understand that DJ doesn’t get the concept of sarcasm.
Preach DJ, preach!
so many people complain about this website, yet they come back to it everyday just to complain more. Go find another website then…
As for this being a story….it is. Reid is saying one thing while sources are saying another. Us Giants, Cowboys, and Skins fans love watching you guy’s botch another one…
Your team is full of lies and deceit.
no need for racism on this thing guys
reporters have been selling this crap since the Eagles drafted Kevin Kolb. I knew when the Eagles got Vick it would get worse.. yeah they will listen to offers what business would’nt, but as far as which QB will go if any only Andy Reid knows and he has stated again that Mcnabb is his QB for 2010.
Donovan is still one of the best QBs in the league., but chokes.
Kolb threw against two of the worst passing defenses in the NFL in those games. /
As a die hard Eagles fan, and a Donovan McNabb fan, I hope for his sake they do deal him!! It’s time for him to go somewhere where he is appreciated, and not blamed for the fact that the coach won’t run the ball, a leaky defense, poor offensive line play. Of course most eagles fans must expect him to play o-line defense, and call the plays, if they didn’t they wouldn’t blame him for everything! Five nfc championship games and a suberbowl apperance and he is hated. Randall Cunningham couldn’t ever get out of the first round and he is revered!! If anyone can figure that out let me know, i’d like to understand it!! Really the one thing that needs to change is the head coach!!
Somebody on an earlier post said “go get another running back to replace Westbrook”. Why pick a running back? Andy won’t run the ball!
For all you Eagles fans that think you can get a first round pick for Mc Nabb, I hate to burst your little bubble but that aint happening!!! First of all he will be a free agent agent next year so why would anybody waste a pick for that!! Secondly he is an aging QB, granted he not as old as Peyton but Peyton has never suffered a serious injury, hell Peyton doesnt ever really get hit… The only value the Eagles have is in Kolb, and you can believe if he doesnt get to be the starter by next season he will walk away too.

@Soia311….(aka Slappy)
Um, no…. he was serious when he talked about a 31 of 51 for 391 yds performance vs. the future Super Bowl champions. Most yards passing allowed allowed all year by New Orleans.
But keep trying.
I think its funny how Florio makes it sound like the Eagles just HAVE to give McNabb an extension just to prove to him that #5 will be back.lol. Uh-oh! Eagles front office better go pay D-Mac just to assure Florio, and only Florio, that McNabb will be back. What a F’n idiot?!!
make that a half a can of lima beans for vick.
or some used alpo.
maybe a bag of stale chips and faygo cola.
or a compendium of florio jokes.
McNabb will be traded for a first round pick. Kobb will be the starting QB and Vick will still be around to run the wildcat and be the backup QB.
You heard it here first.
McNabb is gone, and if a 3rd is the best we can get then that’s what it will be.
The scenario is this – you get something for him now or get nothing later. And since the team would be set back a season or more in terms of rebuilding with McNabb at the helm, you only hurt yourself by bringing him back.
Look for this – a 3rd in 2010 and a conditional 2nd in 2011. The latter pick could become a 1st if halfway decent W-L record is met (say, 10-6).
McNabb coming back makes as much sense as dedicating the right hand lanes of I-95 to horse and buggy traffic.
And as for signing McNabb to an extension, the Eagles don’t think it is necessary. Donovan is such a company man he’ll play on the last year of his deal. It is something I found inconceivable months back, but he’s just that weak.
