Sharper has another week or two to wait

Darren Sharper doesn’t sound likely to sign with a team before April.

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports that the free agent safety still has another week or two of rehab to go before making any free agent visits.  There are reportedly two teams that would like to meet with Sharper, but Pasquarelli still believes the “smart money” is on Sharper returning to the Saints.

Still, a player is far less likely to return to his original team the moment a visit is made.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh ultimately left Cincinnati last season because he felt disrespected by them waiting so long to make a competitive offer.  Sharper wants to see more love from the Saints, but he seems unlikely to get it until another team sets his price.

    Holmgren / Sharper Reunion?
Clevelands only Safety right now is Abram Elam. A huge hole to fill for a team wanting to improve its secondary.
Similar to what they are doing at QB, Sharper can serve as a more than adequate member of the defensive unit while bringing along his replacement, probably someone like Major Wright or Kurt Coleman.

The difference between T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Darren Sharper is Cincinnati didn’t have no sort of a replacement after T.J. left. Coles never panned out and the unfortunate death of Chris Henry left major holes at the WR position. Meanwhile, the Saints have about 3 players that could replace Sharper in a second! (Malcolm Jenkins, Chip Vaughn, Usama Young, or even draft Mays or Earl Thomas if either one falls within reach of the 32nd).
Sharper’s the one losing ground in this matter. Antrel Rolle has already signed with NYG. Pitt re-signed Ryan Clark. Brodney Pool signed with NYJ. And Miami will most likely draft a FS in the draft. That only leaves Chicago, but they already have our former scapegoat Josh Bullocks and that’ll be a disaster if Sharper goes back to the Cover 2.

dude has been under appriciated everywhere he ha played, what else does he have to do to get some love,if i were a GM,i would have locked him up long term a long time ago,the vikings are way dumb for letting go after they were lucky to have him after the packers stupidly let him go,dumb dumb dumb

The problem with Sharper is you have to have the right defensive scheme to take advantage of his abilities. He didn’t fit the Vikings’ new scheme, and it showed.
The Saints are one of the few teams to have a scheme to match his talents. He’d do well to realize that.

jesse custer this statement you made couldnt be more wrong:
The problem with Sharper is you have to have the right defensive scheme to take advantage of his abilities. He didn’t fit the Vikings’ new scheme, and it showed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
now i dont pretend to know everything but i don know that, sharper doesnt have problems with schemes, the problems only come when the talent is not there, now could you imagine if the vikes had sharper there last season with allen, edwards having a career year, the 2 williams bros, and winfield, wouldve made that good def even better,as good as sharper was this past year,if that saint def didnt have guys like hargrove, smith and fugita and others playing their butts off like they did and having career years,no sharper wouldnt have had great year, would hve been same system, except the players did,you get a great pass rush going,ie-allen,hargrove,dont care where he is the saftey is gonna make play with rush defs like that

He will re-sign with the Saints
    They both fit perfectly
He thought the SB ring was going to get him more money…it isn’t

Saw him last night at the arena. He’s on crutches and limping around pretty badly. Couldn’t put any weight on the knee. Procedure must have been more serious than originally reported. He definitely wont be healthy in two weeks.

Hey mastablasta the Vikings had all those players two years ago when Sharper was there and he did nothing. The Vikings will have some defensive issues starting the season because of Henderson’s knee and because Fat Pat may retire, or have a heart attack because he’s 400 lbs. They’ll need to address corner also. Winfield is getting slower and Sapp is not the answer.

I still wouldn’t rule out the Jets.
