Report: Chris Cook showed up to Pro Day out of shape

Virginia cornerback Chris Cook did not impress his potential future employers at the big job interview known as a Pro Day.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said on NFL Total Access that Cook “got winded” during position drills, which is a red flag.  SI’s Tony Pauline wrote last week that coaches had to “coax Cook to pick up the tempo.”

Cook is a terrific size/speed combination and he was one of the standouts at the Scouting Combine with a 4.46 and the best broad jump at his position.  He’s usually been projected as a second-round pick.

If anything, Cook’s big combine numbers make Cook’s pro day performance look worse.

Either Cook didn’t take his pro day seriously or he wasn’t ever truly in good shape to begin with.

  1. He sounds like a boom or bust prospect to me. If you can keep him motivated, his size, speed and athleticism could make him a great corner. On the other hand if a guy can’t stay in shape for 4 months when he should have all the motivation in the world to do so, how are you going to keep this guy motivated over a 4 month grind of a season.

  2. Millions of $$$$ on the line and you can’t stay in shape for a few weeks? Give max effort for a few hours?
    Child, please.
Then again, some team will draft him where he should be taken and he’ll get his $$$$. Happens almost every year. Some team will ‘fall in love’ with him and they will take that chance.
Didn’t Pervy..er, I mean Percy Harvin have problems last year with pot and look how that turned out.

  3. Or maybe he was sittin back kickin it with the future posse tellin em all how rich he was gonna be! What a future a-hole! Hey dipstick, it’s just a lotto ticket you threw away, welcome to the sixth round stupid!

  4. It doesn’t matter. With his combine numbers the Raiders will draft him with their first round pick.
