Report: Smiley is on the trade block

The addition of Richie Incognito in Miami means a subtraction is coming on the Dolphins offensive line.

Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post reports guard Justin Smiley has been told to stay away from the team’s offseason conditioning program because the team plans to trade him.

Smiley got $9 million guaranteed to sign with Miami in 2008, but hasn’t lived up to expectations and has struggled to stay healthy. Still, Smiley is only 28 years old and has started 73 games in his six year career.  There should be a market for him.

  1. “Smiley hasn’t lived up to expectations”
    – wrong!!! Smiley is a elite Guard, but injury prone.. Still i would have loved to keep him and with the addition of Incognito, the young talented guys Thomas and Garner there is a lot of depth and talent which would allow the fins to rotate.
So if they dont get a 3rd or 4th at least – i dont get this move
    Kansas City? Oakland? Buffalo?

  2. Maybe seattle would swap miami 1st round picks for smiley and a lower round pick.
Wishful thinking but can you say hello to Eric Berry?

  3. Bears should try and acquire him since they have a need for a left guard. I wouldn’t give up more than a 5th rd pick for a guy who has been injured though.

  4. redskin_fan…great sense of humor. the product the 4skins have put on the field is pretty comical too…LMAO.

  5. Donald Thomas may not be as good but at least he plays. I like Justin but he’s never healthy…

  6. hey billabongi was this:

    a joke,or was that a for real post,if it was a joke,not very funny,and if not,way too crazy

  7. The Eagles need a guard who can’t live up to expectations. They just let one go… so there’s a roster spot open.

  8. lot of cash to spend on a guy with questionable heart/body. sounds like a move the skins would make. or the cowboys.

  9. I guess Wilfork is worth that fat contract he got! Miami can’t find a guard who can block him!
    Satile, now Smiley!

  10. Never lived up to expectations??? Smiley is one of the best LG’s in the league, and probably the best at pulling. If he could stay healthy, he’d be an all pro every year. I wouldn’t trade him unless we were getting optimal value. I’d rather try to trade D. Thomas for a 3rd or 4th.

  11. Well, duh, If Smiley couldn’t live up to expectations in San Fran, where our O-line is terrible for the most part, he wouldn’t live up to expectations elsewhere… except maybe Oaktown.

  12. GRpatriot, Satele was and is a center not a guard. Jake Grove blocked Wilfork’s fat ass no problem. And Richie will headbutt him when he tries to go for Henne’s knees like he always does and somehow it doesn’t get called.

  13. Right about now Andy Reid is licking his lips and rubbing his belly after reading this. And no, its not because he has a cheesesteak in front of him.

  14. Tell Al Davis that Smiley runs a 4.3 in the 40 and he’ll trade a 1st rounder for him in a heartbeat

  15. “Right about now Andy Reid is licking his lips and rubbing his belly after reading this. And no, its not because he has a cheesesteak in front of him.”
No, it’s because he has two cheesesteaks in front of him…with a large Mega Fries and a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi to wash it down with.

  16. Smiley has been pretty damn good, I’d be surprised if we let him go for anything less than a 3rd.

  17. I’ve got it! Justin Smiley,Ted Ginn and a 3rd round draft pick for Marshall!!!!!!Think about it Denver!!!!!
