Report: Smiley is on the trade block

The addition of Richie Incognito in Miami means a subtraction is coming on the Dolphins offensive line.

Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post reports guard Justin Smiley has been told to stay away from the team’s offseason conditioning program because the team plans to trade him.

Smiley got $9 million guaranteed to sign with Miami in 2008, but hasn’t lived up to expectations and has struggled to stay healthy. Still, Smiley is only 28 years old and has started 73 games in his six year career.  There should be a market for him.

“Smiley hasn’t lived up to expectations”
    – wrong!!! Smiley is a elite Guard, but injury prone.. Still i would have loved to keep him and with the addition of Incognito, the young talented guys Thomas and Garner there is a lot of depth and talent which would allow the fins to rotate.
So if they dont get a 3rd or 4th at least – i dont get this move
    Kansas City? Oakland? Buffalo?

Maybe seattle would swap miami 1st round picks for smiley and a lower round pick.
Wishful thinking but can you say hello to Eric Berry?

  3. justo says: Mar 22, 2010 10:16 AM

Word is he is going to the Seahawks…

  4. CTifer says: Mar 22, 2010 10:19 AM

Surprising. I thought if anything, Donald Thomas would be dropped.

  5. ChicagoJo says: Mar 22, 2010 10:20 AM

Go get em Bears.. you still have a few first round draft picks this decade to get rid of.

  6. Redskins_Fan says: Mar 22, 2010 10:24 AM

The Redskins will trade Rex Grossman for Smiley…

  7. Youngone says: Mar 22, 2010 10:30 AM

All that tampering with Smiley for nothing

  8. Mattchew182 says: Mar 22, 2010 10:30 AM

Bears should try and acquire him since they have a need for a left guard. I wouldn’t give up more than a 5th rd pick for a guy who has been injured though.

  9. RavensFreak00 says: Mar 22, 2010 10:34 AM

I guess he isn’t in a Smiley mood right now.

redskin_fan…great sense of humor. the product the 4skins have put on the field is pretty comical too…LMAO.

Eagles need depth at guard with the departure of Shawn Andrews.

  12. hnirobert says: Mar 22, 2010 10:36 AM

Donald Thomas may not be as good but at least he plays. I like Justin but he’s never healthy…

    hey billabongi was this:
Maybe seattle would swap miami 1st round picks for smiley and a lower round pick
    a joke,or was that a for real post,if it was a joke,not very funny,and if not,way too crazy

  14. Krow says: Mar 22, 2010 10:37 AM

The Eagles need a guard who can’t live up to expectations. They just let one go… so there’s a roster spot open.

  15. Kevin from Philly says: Mar 22, 2010 10:38 AM

Is this the same smiley who posts on PFT and ends every one of them with “hail!”?

  16. GoCaps8 says: Mar 22, 2010 10:46 AM

Come on Redskins, make a play for him! He’d be a big upgrade to go with Okung.

  17. Resevoir Dogg says: Mar 22, 2010 10:53 AM

For a third round pick? Great move if they can make it happen.

  18. palewook says: Mar 22, 2010 10:56 AM

lot of cash to spend on a guy with questionable heart/body. sounds like a move the skins would make. or the cowboys.

  19. Ryan says: Mar 22, 2010 11:07 AM

    Redskins have a left guard.

  20. Traveler says: Mar 22, 2010 11:14 AM

Maybe Denver should look into trading Tony Scheffler for Smiley straight up.

  21. GRpatriot says: Mar 22, 2010 11:20 AM

I guess Wilfork is worth that fat contract he got! Miami can’t find a guard who can block him!
    Satile, now Smiley!

  22. finsbooyah says: Mar 22, 2010 11:25 AM

Never lived up to expectations??? Smiley is one of the best LG’s in the league, and probably the best at pulling. If he could stay healthy, he’d be an all pro every year. I wouldn’t trade him unless we were getting optimal value. I’d rather try to trade D. Thomas for a 3rd or 4th.

  23. Steve-Mo says: Mar 22, 2010 11:30 AM

GRpatriot is ‘tarded. No idea where he’s going with his post and SATELE played center.

  24. DcNinerFan says: Mar 22, 2010 11:31 AM

Well, duh, If Smiley couldn’t live up to expectations in San Fran, where our O-line is terrible for the most part, he wouldn’t live up to expectations elsewhere… except maybe Oaktown.

  25. Burnum says: Mar 22, 2010 11:32 AM

Smiley for Sheffler, straight up. Sounds fair to me…

  26. ceed says: Mar 22, 2010 11:36 AM

GRpatriot, Satele was and is a center not a guard. Jake Grove blocked Wilfork’s fat ass no problem. And Richie will headbutt him when he tries to go for Henne’s knees like he always does and somehow it doesn’t get called.

  27. smiley says: Mar 22, 2010 11:39 AM

    Hail!!!! That was for Kevin.

  28. SHUTYOURFACE says: Mar 22, 2010 12:23 PM

does denver need a guard? because i know we need a good WR pretty bad.

  29. scrapdawg12 says: Mar 22, 2010 12:26 PM

Right about now Andy Reid is licking his lips and rubbing his belly after reading this. And no, its not because he has a cheesesteak in front of him.

  30. Passrusher76 says: Mar 22, 2010 12:33 PM

Tell Al Davis that Smiley runs a 4.3 in the 40 and he’ll trade a 1st rounder for him in a heartbeat

  31. Tim says: Mar 22, 2010 12:45 PM

Billabongi & Redskins_Fan play too much Madden. Only there would those trades ever work.

  32. Chris Fiorentino says: Mar 22, 2010 12:59 PM

“Right about now Andy Reid is licking his lips and rubbing his belly after reading this. And no, its not because he has a cheesesteak in front of him.”
No, it’s because he has two cheesesteaks in front of him…with a large Mega Fries and a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi to wash it down with.

  33. bluehaze says: Mar 22, 2010 1:31 PM

Smiley has been pretty damn good, I’d be surprised if we let him go for anything less than a 3rd.

  34. smiley says: Mar 22, 2010 2:06 PM

How the eff am I up for a trade? Florio!!!

  35. Kevin from Philly says: Mar 22, 2010 2:49 PM

Ah, good to hear from ya smiles – where ya been?

  36. Sharkphin says: Mar 22, 2010 4:00 PM
