Devaney says McNabb trade rumors are "false" and "ridiculous"

Earlier in the day, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Eagles “have an offer on the table” from the Rams for quarterback Donovan McNabb, and that a trade could happen quickly.

We heard from a Rams source that there is “zero truth” to the report.

As Rosenthal pointed out, someone was full of something that often gets confused with shinola.

For a change, we win.

Per Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Rams G.M. Billy Devaney says that report of a trade is “[a]bsolutely false” and “utterly ridiculous.”

Howard Eskin of WIP echoes that report, citing an unnamed high-ranking Rams official who said that the Rams have never even spoken to the Eagles about McNabb.

So, please, citizens of Philadelphia.  Return to your homes and go about your business.  There is nothing to see here.

Trade him already, I’m sick of him falling short EVERY year. I’m also sick of the “my bad chest pound”, the dancing and the general lack of passion it takes to win the superbowl. Brees, Manning and Brady have it. Rivers, Roethesberger have it too.

People of Philadelphia. Go home now. There is nothing to worry about. As the 2010 season gets underway, you will be comforted and spiritually fulfilled seeing Donovan McNabb as YOUR starting quarterback.
The rest of the nation trembles in fear at your weaponry. We also understand the love you have for your leader Donovan. A love that has existed since draft day those many years ago.

Eskin is far more knowledgable than the other talk radio fella, Missanelli. This tool has been carrying Eskins jock for years. Their competition on the horrible local talk radio has allowed for a ton a false speculations and rumors. While the Inquirer reported it as well, the talk guys repeat only stuff they research as well.
(yes I do have an agenda)
I would say Devaney is correct that there is no trade, however that doesnt mean there wont be one.
I would guess the Rams cant work out a contract with McNabb. Whom I am sure is asking for much more cash from the Rams then he would from the Cards.

Ive watched every eagles game for years. I just dont like Donovan. His demeanor, his throws at the feet of wide open receivers (consistently), and his utter lack of quality leadership. He is the reason they havent won a championship. I am sincere in that belief. He just doesnt have what it takes. Maybe Kolb does or maybe he doesnt. However the chance that he does is more than enough for me and many eagles fans. The guy has two really good starts. Actually fantastic for his only two starts. So who knows how good he is. Only a moron would say he sucks. And only a person that is over confident would say hes going to be great. But the chance that he does have what it takes is more than enough. I mean, come on guys, hes clearly over the hill lets get whatever we can out of the situation before its to late.

Everyone in Philly knows Eskin is an idiot. Just because he says it is untrue doesnt mean anything. Eskin believes all the players tell him the truth also. All this is is a rumor right now but I hope something happens soon. The Eagles have started to rebuild and McNabb is not part of thier future.

How is Missanelli hated more than Eskin. Eskin is a tool. Missanelli is doing his job as a talk radio head that reports on all things rumor or not. It’s his job to talk all things Philly sports. I’m a giants fan living in Philly and I listen to the fanatic all the time because they don’t kiss all the Philly teams asses. By the way gettin the 33rd and Atogwe is wayyyyy better than a 1st rounder.

  31. 4evrnyt says: Mar 24, 2010 8:19 PM

It’s very telling that you listed “demeanor” first. This is what seems to inflame Eagles fans most about McNabb. What smiling or dancing has to do with whether you win or not is beyond me, but what you guys really hate about him is that he won’t throw a hissy fit on the sidelines when they’re losing. I’d rather have a QB, who is supposed to be the leader, keep a light tone and a smile as an example. But you guys just want him to act as miserable as you do about the fact that the Eagles haven’t won the Super Bowl. Fans have the luxury of getting to act out and spit vitriol and stamp their feet. But the players have to be the ones who actually go out there and try to win, and adopting this attitude is not going to help them do that.

    Jesus Christ.
I’m so sick of this yanking-our-chain nonsense with regard to the QB situation in Philly.
JUST DEAL SOMEBODY AND BE DONE WITH IT DAMMIT.
I’m sick of hearing McNabb this, Kolb that every day on the radio and on ESPN and on websites.

  38. Hauschild says: Mar 24, 2010 9:06 PM

I mean, it certainly didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the rumor was a complete hoax. Basically, a first round pick (33) for a QB with little desire and durability? Then, to really top it off, the Rams also throw in a quality corner? For McNabb??? Good Lord, some people’s kids, ya know???
It would have at least been a more interesting and tempting rumor if the QB in question had desire and ability and durability like Brett Favre.

  39. iPUFF says: Mar 24, 2010 9:24 PM

Donovan has never fully embraced a leadership role for this squad. B Dawk & B West have been the true leaders during his tenure. Now they’re gone & the wheels of the youth movement have been set in motion. Goodbye Don. Bring on Kolb.

FMWarner’s right. Many fans base their perception of a player’s demeanor on how consistently they embody press conference cliches. After all, what kind of an ass dances, grins, or, when losing, fails to act mortally anguished when “live bullets are flying?”
In my book, the only reasonable concern over McNabb is possibility of future injury; he’s missed a game or two, to say the least. Generally, a healthy McNabb plays as well as all but a small number of Qbs. He’s clearly better than most team’s supposed franchise QB.
Easy people. Don’t hate the man because he doesn’t clown around exactly as you’d like.
Would love to see him finish up in purple. He’s got a lot more in the tank than Farve and isn’t such an attention seeking centrum-silver diva.

  42. Deegan says: Mar 24, 2010 11:29 PM

I’m in awe of all the hatred for McNabb. Here is a guy who has taken his team to 5 NFC Championship games and a Superbowl in a 12 year career without the advantage of good or even average wide receivers for the vast majority of his career. Few quarterbacks would have won as consistently with the type of crap they surrounded him with over the years.
I’m shocked at how successful he has been as a pro. When I first saw him play he “Michael Vicked” his way through many a game. But with his hard work and dedication he honed his passing skills and the ground balls he used to throw with such regularity were cut down dramatically. It’s a testiment to his dedication to his craft.
If I were the Rams I would grab him in a second for 33 at Atogwe. A veteran prescence like him can only be asset to that young a team.

  43. bcb171 says: Mar 24, 2010 11:32 PM

FMWarner: Hey, I’ve always, at least, supported Mcnabb because he played on the team that I’m a huge supportive fan of. The man always seemed content with making terrible plays. And yes he has made some great plays. I dont know how exactly to explain it, its weird. He seemed to not just smile but make a joke of his bad play. When you screw up it shouldnt be like that. You dont see Brady or Manning acting like that. So no, this has nothing to do with his press conferences. And most of us fans dont hate the guy, we just know hes not the guy. And many of us have watched nearly every single throw he has ever made. They will never win with him behind center. Especially now. Hence, its time to move on and maybe get some kind of value. You definitely couldnt of watched many games.

  44. globalpack says: Mar 25, 2010 12:21 AM

It’s funny. This seems to be an example of when a football teams runs itself like a business, but not all the way. The Eagles clearly believe that they need to make major changes to their roster if they want to be competitive in the future. The amount of cuts that have been made show that the organization needs to undergo a youth movement. But they just can’t let go of the face of their franchise. In conclusion, at the start of the off-season the Eagles had to decide if they were a SB contender or not. They chose not, however, they can’t seem to pull the trigger on re-building.

  45. mickey ferr says: Mar 25, 2010 1:12 AM

Be careful what we wish for?? I wish people would see the big picture. Donovan McNabb does not fit Andy Reids offense. Now that he doesnt like to run the ball when he cant find wide open recievers, he stands in the pocket and eventually throws the ball to the ground, directly in front of a different wide open reciever. This is what I see when I watch Eagles games. I live for the Eagles. Other people see Donovan McNabbs highlights and numbers on sportscenter and assume he’s great. Stats, Stats, Stats. Thats all McNabb is about, his big image! Well guess what??? There’s been superbowl winners who eventually get kicked off their team. Why can’t superbowl win-less McNabb get replaced?? Is it his great numbers we see on sportscenter? Well guess what, Kevin Kolb got the same numbers in his only 2 starts this season. If you only knew about that from sportscenter you might also assume hes great and should be the Eagles starter. So does that make him irreplaceable as well? Come on, McNabb is ready to become a sports analyst. He shows up for work and collects his paycheck just like I do at my job. I think I might have a tiny bit more passion though somehow.
