Umenyiora appears to have calmed down

Osi Umenyiora was breathing fire last time we heard from him, saying he would rather retire than come off the bench next season in New York.

Things have settled since the defensive end had a long chat with G.M. Jerry Reese in February.  Coach Tom Coughlin also said he couldn’t guarantee Osi anything at the Scouting Combine.

Umenyiora hasn’t backed down publicly, but actions speak louder than words.

Coughlin revealed to reporters Wednesday that Umenyiora has been attending the offseason program with a “smile on his face, working his tail off.”

Score one for Coughlin.

  1. All Osi would have to do is look at his stats when faced with a run. He was really _really_ bad against the run last year. Heck just look at tapes. If a man cannot help his line stop the run, then the team you play for will find someone who can, very simple. Work hard, come back next year improved and be the old Osi everyone didn’t want to go up against. No problem.

  2. “Score one for Coughlin.”
Not necessarily. It also shows that Usi is smart enough to know that any trouble from him makes it harder to get a trade.

  3. The Giants are the only team I know of who have two good defensive ends and are still looking at drafting a defensive end in the first round.

They have 3 actually. Osi, Tuck, and Mathias Kiwanunka

  5. The Lord, they had Strahan and Osi and drafted Tuck, two years later they smothered Tom Brady and won the superbowl… You can never have too many DEs.
Its the second most important position.

  6. Maybe Osi’s still a dick but Coughlin’s covering it up for trade purposes?
Hopefully, everything’s good with Osi, when he’s good he’s GOOD.
OR…get some nice picks for him.
